As part of the manuals and/or documentation for the game, is there going to be something that discusses the differences between the board game rules, the computer version, and the impact on the game?

The Rules as Coded (RAC) contain, in each section of the rules where they diverge from table-top Rules as Written (RAW), designer clarifications, explicit mentions of the deviations, and the like.

I know there are one or two threads which discuss specific elements (mainly the impact the unified map scale has) of the RAW/RAC divergences; I'd post some examples when I get home but I think it's above my paygrade until the game is released.

Besides the individual mentions in the RAC volume itself, the Players Manual volume 2 has a section the collects all the deviations in one place. Here is the beginning of that section.

EDIT: I have no idea how I managed to get two copies of the same JPG uploaded.

Also, deviations are repeated in the rules themselves. You'll read the rule on, say, moving Soviet factories, and then you'll see an italicized paragraph marked "Deviation", indicating that there's a deviation from the RAW. It's nicely done.

Hi

A question for Steve and the Beta testers with regard to the change in the map for China to a European scale. As a long time wiffer would like to know how much this changes the war in China as in WiFe the Chinese can form a defensive line. In mwif are they simply able to out manoeuvre the Chinese so as to be able to conqueor them at any early stage?

Cheers

Phil

It's a question for an expert but in general there was a lot of debate about this and stuff has been added to MWiF to factor in the new scale in China (and other places). It was a fair while ago but extra Chinese cities was definitely one of them.

You'll probably find the debates here...

Yes, China can't form a solid line at this scale, but if anything the new map scale may favor the Chinese. Japan's supply troubles really daunting now, and China feels huge. Then again, while I've been testing MWIF for years, I've never played the boardgame, so take my impressions with a big grain of salt.

In the MWiF China scale the war there becomes more mobile and not so much a stalemate situation as in the boardgame scale. Japan can make headway but it still takes a lot of effort to take additional resources from China. With the large area there are also many more places where partisans can be placed and Japan must also keep a watch on the Russians. Manchuria is also a much larger area. Overall it does not change the power balance much but it makes it a more active front and thus more interesting to play.

I agree.

Japan's strategic goals in China don't change: (1) destroy Chinese units faster than China can rebuild them, (2) take very few losses, (3) capture resources to increase Japan's production and reduce China's.

Tactically, there are differences given the different map scales. With the board game the tactics in China were similar to those of WW I western front battles. There's no armor (or very little) in China, but the tactics in MWIF require more fluid movement of combat elements, which make the battles more like WW II combat in Russia.

Thanks Gents, am pleased to hear that whilst it may be a different type of fight in China the balance has not changed which to me is the brilliance of wif.

Cheers
