Besides ELINT the X-47B seems to lack any air-to-ground detection systems - either optical or radar. I flew it over a Slava CG and a Very Large Building repeatedly without being able to see them with it. It was able to see SA-N-6 SAMs coming toward it with it's IRST.

Howdy

I Saw in the DB that there are new entries for the LRASM, in particular, one that is Air Launched. Which platforms will be using those? Will any ships have the surface ones in loadout by default?

Thanks a lot for Poland's additions in latest DB.
Two minor things that are incorrect:
1. NUR-31 (#2150) is a 2D radar (distance+azimuth only) and always works in pair with NUR-41 (height finder - #2151) to get the 3D capabilities.
2. Bryza 1R bis (#3341) - only 1 unit was built (db description states "7x") and the ASW loadout is missing (10 x AN/SSQ-62 DICASS sonobuoys - the same type as on SH-2G Seasprites).

what was fictional about the F-20? they built 4 of them...

quote:

High-performance jet fighter, fully armed with missiles, guns. ECM equipment, fresh paint (stars and bars painted over), single seat, 97% reliability rate, will outclimb, outturn F-16, outrun F-14, low fuel burn (relatively), all digital avionics, radar, terrain following, INS, GPS, Tacan, used only for testing and sales promotion. Now in storage.
Contact Northrop Corp. Will trade for Mig-25 and home address of Air Force Acquisition officer.

Hey there! The air-launched LRASM will most likely be established upon the B-1 Lancer, F-35 Lightning II, F/A-18D/E Super Hornet (as it appears in the concept animation of Lockheed Martin) and maybe the EA-18G Growler too. No, the LRASM isn't featured at any surface platform as I noticed so far.

Greetings

could we get this added to the DB, and for Australia? I see there that it is used by some other countries, too...

low priority.

Well was hoping for official answer to confirm that maybe sometime in near future, American F-35s would be a step closer to complete armament list. Oh well, at least they are in DB

BTW

Lockheed Martin recently conducted a test in which an LRASM hit a moving ship. Along the way, it followed preplanned waypoints, currently there is no way to order LRASMs to follow preplanned way points

http://www.deagel.com/news/Air-Launched-LRASM-Successfully-Completes-Second-Flight-Test_n000012099.aspx

quote:

Flying over the Sea Range at Point Mugu, Calif., a U.S. Air Force B-1B bomber from the 337th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, released the LRASM, which navigated through all planned waypoints receiving in-flight targeting updates from the Weapon Data Link. After transitioning to autonomous guidance, LRASM identified the target using inputs from the onboard sensors. The missile then descended for final approach, verified and impacted the target.

the JASSM can be programmed to follow waypoints as well as to impact a target from a certain bearing and angle.

Dont know how much of a priority that will be, but it will probably be something to be built into the strike editor when that happens, seeing as how it is not something you can edit from the cockpit anyway.

There are several RHIBs in the DB3000, including armed pirate and SpecOps versions.

I don't know if this is the right thread since it is a bit generic, but;

It seems that those supposedly "stealthy" munitions don't really have lower signatures. Their RCS are generally similar to that of their "non-stealth" counterpart. I wonder if they need to be lowered a bit. If not, an explanation will be welcome, and I'm always ready to be educated. Also something look like an oversight to me is that the unpowered guided bombs have extended IR detection range from rear just like powered weapons.

It seems the F-35 international variants(with block3i service entry date) include Block 4 weapons yet US versions are limited to Block 3F.

I'll be honest, I want to see SDB II loadout for F-35

Thanks for your post but a few more details would be helpful.

Stealth is not only determined but the object that might have it but the sophistication of the sensors that might be looking for it.

F-35: Ah future unit. Our crystal ball is only as good as the info we get. Please submit changes in this string with some sources.

SDBII integration: I think we were looking at that recently. Will get back to you on this.

Thank you for your reply mikmyk.

I'm not sure if I'm clear about the signature issue. Of course detection is about both sensor and target signature, and I was talking about(what I see as) discrepancies in the latter. What I'm saying is basically that munitions like JASSM, JSOW, Storm Shadow, AGM-129, etc..., with pretty explicit RCS reduction features, don't seem to have lower RCS than the comparable, "non-stealthy" weapons. Of course it will be difficult to find any credible figures, but I'd say a guesstimate will be closer to the real world figures than leaving them in line with weapons with little stealth consideration.

And for the unpowered guided bombs(GBUs), from what I see in database, they are just somehow much more visible to IR sensor from the rear, say maybe 2x+ the detection range from side? Seem to me that someone just forgot that these weapons, although classified as guided weapons, don't really have engines.

I'd like to post a link to the F-35 reference, but I couldn't as newly registered user. Anti spam measures?
dtic.m(WTF)il/ndia/2012annual_psr/WERTH.pdf
Bypassed it anyway.

Not exactly up to date, but you get the general idea. Hate to admit, but the Block 3F weapon set is pretty basic. Block 4 however includes some more sexy stuff.

Both F-35B/C are threshold platform for SDB II integration. So if nothing goes seriously wrong, they will probably get SDB II. Were I to hazard a guess, F-35A will get the same. Even fit testing is done for F-22 and it is designated as an objective platform for integration, but that's a bit far fetched.

BTW APG-63v3 has been fielded by USAF for sometime(although only in small number at a painfully slow rate), wouldn't it be a good time to add an APG-63v3 variant for USAF F-15?

RHIB was a keyword :) thanks. While we are at them - current database have small error. Most RHIBs have cargo capacity of 1450 tons which is impossible for boat with only 9 tons of displacement. Affected units are all civilian and US RHIBs. Since it is not possible to put cargo on boat it doesn't matter much though.

The Cherokee Piper was a produced in the thousands. The Tigershark had a handful of flying test/demo aircraft. If my term 'fictional' is too rough for your sensibilities, then I apologize. It's meant more as a term to indicate that their inclusion as a combat element in a CMANO game would be construed as being fictional in nature, not historical.

So, there I was, trying to write a scenario featuring the Philippines and I realized...hey, the database does not have the SF-260. In fact, the database does not have a lot of Philippine aircraft that could be used in this scenario and others. So, when there is time, please add the following...

SIAI-Marchetti SF.260

Here are a few additional aircraft to add, when there is time...

KAI KUH-1 Surion <-- new Korean transport/attack helicopter

Unless, that is, you are creating a scenario based on drug smuggling, or intercepting a deposed dictator fleeing the country, or simulating a neurotoxin attack on Fort Knox...

assuming of course that all of those involved a piper cherokee as the dryg smuggling/ dictator holding/ neurotoxin delivering plane, and not a F-20.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The big reason to have the Piper PA-28 in the database is that it is one of the most common light aircraft in the world, so it is a good choice for representing civilian air traffic. But it could also be used by civilians for a variety of purposes that would make the aircraft critical to a scenario. However, Blu3wolf does make a valid point that you're not going to win any dogfights with it. (I suppose some lunatic might try to use it as a super-light attack aircraft and rig a hardpoint under the fuselage; the plane could probably just barely carry a single MK 81 250-lb. bomb...you could actually model this in Command by editing the weapons on the plane...I'm not sure how well that would actually work, though...)

Here are two more that could be added. No rush on these, but they might be useful in scenarios...

Hawker Siddeley HS 748 <-- used by over a dozen air forces around the world
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_748
http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/stats.main?id=57
http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/acdata_php/acdata_andover_en.php

BAE Systems SkyEye
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAE_SkyEye
http://en.ruvsa.com/catalog/skyeye_r4e_50_and_r4e_100/
http://rahauav.com/Library/samples/spec_04_uav.pdf <-- this actually has a lot of specs for a lot of UAVs, so it may be useful for other platforms, too

Thanks for considering these.

Not sure if you got my request for this proposed upgrade that wasn't entered into service.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Coiler12

As a hypothetical, you could include the proposed MiG-23-98:

From the wiki article:

quote:

MiG-23-98 In the late 1990s, Mikoyan, following their successful MiG-21 upgrade projects, offered an upgrade which featured new radar, new self-defense suite, new avionics, improved cockpit ergonomics, helmet-mounted sight, and the capability to fire Vympel R-27 (NATO: AA-10 "Alamo") and Vympel R-77 (NATO: AA-12 "Adder") missiles. The projected cost was around US$1 million per aircraft.

(Russian language) detailed information here: MiG-23-98

quote:

Coiler

Also, Smuggling submarines would be good to use in a scenario.
