Gents,

A couple suggestions for the DB. Not sure how "in the weeds" you want to get, but there are some inconsistences with helicopter mounted weapons in the DB. I will be posting some requests focused on the MH-60 series shortly, but first I wanted to point out a couple things with the weapons. Let me know if this is to granular to worry about...I'm a detail freak!

1. Weapon #1125 in the DB (GAU-16) is actually a .50 cal weapon system, not 7.62 as indicated.
2. Weapon #630, which is listed in dozens of aircraft entries is the GAU-15 or GAU-16 in the US military.

Not sure what you think about this...but the differences between the GAU-15, 16 and 21 are negligible in game terms (dif base .50 cal weapons, mount, recoil system). Maybe create ONE .50 cal weapon entry called GAU-15/16/21? This would solve the problem for aircraft load outs over the years, because it is hard to determine (unless you were on the aircrew) when specific units switched from say the GAU-16 to the GAU-21.

Defer to the experts, but the GAU-19 (aka GECAL 50) is a 3-barrel .50 cal weapon used on some ground platforms and the OH-58Ds. Would it make sense to add that to the "universal" GAU-15/16/21 entry proposed above, or make a seperate entry for it?

Also, same applies for the GAU-2, GAU-17 and M134 (same weapon, dif designation...M134 in US Army, GAU-2/17 with other services). Maybe ONE minigun entry called M134/GAU-2/17 minigun?

Thanks for the excellent game!

#1599 MH-60A “Velcro Hawk”

Add the following:

1.117 USG auxiliary fuel tank (internal)

2. Replace 12.7mm with 2 x M134 mini gun.

Source: home.avvanta.com/~whitet/mh-60.htm
ARMY MH-60s
The first special operations Blackhawk was the MH-60A, a standard UH-60 with many improvements. They were among the first to be equipped with the AAQ-16 FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) sensor and ALQ-144 "Disco Light" IR jammer. All the original A models also received auxiliary fuel tanks, IR suppressive exhausts, SATCOM (Satellite Communication), radar warning receivers, and M-134 7.62mm Miniguns.

I can't post links because I'm new to the forum I think.

More suggestions for the MH-60 series.

NOTE: Velcro Hawk was a nickname given to the early MH-60As due to the way they were “cobbled” together. Newer MH-60s in the Army since then have been referred to as Blackhawks, or more specifically as DAPs, “Limas”, “Kilos” or “Mikes”, depending on the model.

#1598 MH-60L Blackhawk

Suggested edits:

1. Change name to MH-60L Blackhawk
2. Add 2 x 175 USG auxiliary fuel tank (internal).
3. Change weapons to M134 vs GAU-2 (see my original post on 7.62mm miniguns)

Source: Robertson Fuel Systems OWNS the market on aux fuel tanks! Robbie tanks are found on almost every Blackhawk model in US inventory, they are ingenious products. This website will help with modifications of other aircraft in the DB.

robbietanks.com/products?type=aircraft

Add www in front of robbietanks. Still can't post links.

Suggested edits for APQ-174.

The 174 and APQ-186 are almost identical. The 174 is carried on helos, the 186 on the CV-22. These edits would apply to both.

1. Add the following modes to the 174/186. I believe only the weather mapping mode is mentioned in other radar entries, so not sure if the others matter.

- Terrain following (TF)
- Terrain avoidance (TA)
- Ground mapping (GM)
- Weather detection (WX)
- Beacon interrogation (BCN)
- Cross scan modes (TF/TA, TF/GM, TF/WX, TF/BCN)

SOURCE: Raytheon's website...still can't post links!

Suggestions for MH-60L DAP

#1602 and #1607 – MH-60L Velcro Hawk DAP

The DAP is near and dear to my heart, more suited to the gunship role than the Apache during my deployments. Most don’t realize that the incredibly high-speed and complex IHADSS on the Apache does not make it an ideal platform to support SOF in close contact at night. DAPs should NOT be confused with AH-60s, such as the Battlehawk demonstrator and Columbia’s AH-60 Arpia.

Suggested edits:

1. Change name on both to MH-60L DAP.

2. Add 2 x 175 USG auxiliary fuel tank (internal). See the Robertson website for details.

3. Add AN/APQ-174B Terrain Following Radar

4. The door guns on the DAP are in a fixed forward firing position. This is due to the ESSS installation. CHANGE firing arcs of 2 x GAU-2s and change GAU-2 to M134. There are many photos of the fixed forward mounting on the web, can't figure out how to post photo here.

5. 2 x 185 USG auxiliary fuel tank (internal). See Robertson website.

6. You could remove all the load outs that reflect troops or cargo. That's not the DAPs mission and in my 10 years in SOF I never saw one carry anything other than weapons.

The DAP can be configured with 1 of 2 types of external stores systems…one with 2 hardpoints and the ESSS with 4. If I could only figure out how to post photos!

Loadouts would look like this:

TWO hardpoint
1 x M230 chain gun w/1100 rounds
4 x AGM-114K Hellfire IIs (any SALH version) OR 1 x 19-round HYDRA rocket pod

FOUR hardpoint
1 x M230 chain gun w/1100 rounds
8 x AGM-114K Hellfire IIs AND 1 x 19-round HYDRA rocket pod
OR
2 x HYDRA rocket pod AND 4 x AGM-114K Hellfire IIs (this is more common)

This is in addition to the 2 x M134 miniguns that are fixed to fire forward. The DAP can also carry AIM-92 Stingers (2 missiles per hardpoint), but I have personally seen a mockup of the “wingtip” of the ESSS modified to carry 2 x Stingers just like the AH-64 wingtip. It was a demo, but it could easily be done.

Suggestions for MH-60K.

#1597 MH-60K Velcro Hawk

Suggested edits:

1. Change name to MH-60K Blackhawk

2. Change GAU-2 to M134. The Kilo can also be seen at times with 2 x GAU-21 door guns (See the Bergdahl recovery video for an example), so this could be added as an option?

3. External Fuel – Defer to the experts on how to implement this, but the MH-60K can carry 2 x 230 USG tanks on the ETS. When so equipped, the door guns are useless. Maybe duplicate the loadouts with a “long range” option that also deletes the door guns? Robertson is working on a 100 USG conformal system...see the CAFS on Robertson that will allow door gun use.

About the elusive MH-60A "Velcro Hawk":
- Employed historically on the 1988 Operation Praying Mantis, as reflected on this old scenario:
http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?/files/file/703-operation-praying-mantis-1988-historical-scenario/
- Some few images but clear images of MH-60A circa Operation Praying Mantis and Prime Chance:
From others angles photos and timeframe this is clearly a Velcro Hawk:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barge_Hercules_with_Helicopter_and_PBRs_onboard.jpg
This is another angle photo, with FLIR clearly observed under the nose and ALQ-144 "Disco Light" over the engines:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:MH-60_Blackhawk_landing_on_Hercules.JPG

Also, you can find a lot of inspiration for scenario design reading about operations Praying Mantis, Prime Chance and Earnest Will, including rare and initial use of MH-6A, MH-60A and Patrol Boat MkIII:

Suggestions for MH-60M

#3711 MH-60M Velcro Hawk

Suggested edits:

1. Change name to MH-60M Blackhawk

2. Add AN/APQ-174B

3. Engines are – 2 x YT706-GE-700 (2500 SHP)

4. External Fuel – MH-60M will be equipped CAFS from Robertson once certified

NOTE: There will also be a MH-60M DAP, same as the Lima model, but upgraded (or on new build airframe) to Mike standards. The engines will improve the DAPs performance when loaded with weapons. Please create this separate MH-60M with the load outs I suggested for the MH-60L DAP entry in the DB.

Gents,

Could you add the following sensor?

AAQ-29 FLIR - It is mounted on the USAF HH-60G and USMC CH-53E. It will also be mounted on the CH-53K when it enters service. The AAQ-29 has the same specs as the Osprey's AAQ-27, just an additional FOV. Here are specs for both.

AN/AAQ-27A
In production for USMC MV-22 Osprey tiltrotors, the AAQ-27 is a MWIR system that has much in common with the AAQ-16B. IR camera: 3-5 micron, InSb, 480x640 pixel, staring-array detector with two FOV, 30x40° and 5x6.7°. System weight: less than 90lb, turret weight 50lb. Turret dimensions: 14.19(H)x11.95(D)in. Options: electronic zoom, dual-mode tracker.
AN/AAQ-29A
In production for USMC CH-53E and USAF HH-60G, the AAQ-29A is similar to the AN/AAQ-27A, except it incorporates an additional (third) FOV (1.3x1.73°). It is a MWIR system. IR camera: 3-5 micron, InSb, 480x640 pixel, staring-array detector with two FOV, 30x40° and 5x6.7°. System weight: less than 90lb. Turret weight: 50lb. Turret dimensions: 14.19(H)x11.95(D)in. Options: electronic zoom, dual-mode tracker.

1. Chinese #2691 - 130mm China H/PJ-38 (052D destroyer) is dual-purpose gun and should be able also to target air targets/missiles.

2. #2487 - Y-8W Cub [High New 5, KJ-200 Balance Beam] - radar should be clone of Saabs Erieye, and like original don't have full 360 degree coverage, rather 150 degrees on each side with blind spots at forward and rear 30 degrees. Same for sensor #544 - PS-890 Erieye

1.) Applies to 290, 282, 283, 2022, 281, 2021, 368, 1455, 20 (all RB 15)
These missiles fly really high for sea skimming ones, and since the book "World naval weapon systems" by Norman Friedman states that it flies as low as 2 meters i think they should have their flight profile lowered to the same height as most other AShM (9,14 m). I'm not 100% sure this applies to the first version, but the MK 2 and MK 3 certainly should fly lower since most sources call them sea skimming.

2.) The VA-111 (DB entry #1138) can't be added to any submarine or ship see: Link.

[UPDATED DB v440]

Oh boy, took me some effort and a lot more time...

In addition to my previous post, it looks like designation and data of both Russian Gepard-class ships have been mixed together into one class but both ships do differ from another. I suggest overworking #584 SKR Gepard [Pr.1166.1K] in the database. Here's a quick summary of changes:

- Redesignate existing platform to SKR Gepard [Pr.1166.1] (Tatarstan was classified as Project 1166.1K until 2003 when Project 1166.1K was reclassified for the future VLS-equipped Dagestan)

- Add MR-212 Vaygach Navigation Radar

- Change dimensions to 102,2m in lenght, 13,76m in beam and draft 3,7m

- Remove Palma CIWS and replace it with an aft-mounted Zif-122 Twin Rail Launcher firing Osa-MA2 missiles (20 9M33 missiles total)

- Remove AK-230

- I read something about an MG-757 Anapa-M sonar was added during modernizations but couldn't find further sources to prove this

In addition it would make sence to add SKR Gepard [Pr.1166.1K] to the game because it inherits most of Project 1166.1 data. I don't know how much work it takes but I'm sure it takes some effort to collect all the informations for a platform. Given the idea you use the current Gepard-class (without the above mentioned changes) as a basis for a new database entry, you will have to edit following things:

- Add MR-212 Vaygach Navigation Radar

- Air/Surface Search Radar MR-352 Positiv has been replaced with MR-352 Positiv-M1

- Add two 14,5 mm HMGs covering engagment arcs from 30°-150° and 210°-330° (Dagestan only)

- Change dimensions to 102,1m in length, 13,2m in beam and 3,5m in draft

- Remove both KT-184 Quad Launchers and replace them with 8x UKSK VLS (SS-N-27 Slizzer VLS in database) capable of firing missiles of the Klub-N familiy

- Remove AK-630M and AK-230

- Remove RBU-6000 [Smerch-2]

- Dagestans superstructures are slightly different from those of Tatarstan, possibly decreasing its radar cross section

- Aft-mounted CIWS is sometimes claimed to be Palash gun system instead of Palma?

Please take some time and look through this!

Keep it up!

Palash=Palma without missiles(9М337)

as Sosna-RA(9М337) did not complete the tests now all palma=palash
after Sosna-RA finish the tests missile will be installed on Palash
and palash turn into palma

If I reacall right both Palash and Palmaare equipped with octuple missile arms in the DB. Anyways In this case Palash is the weapon system aboard Dagestan (Check imagines)

#2333 - T-AFS 8 Sirius [ex-British Lyness Class] -- United States (Navy), 1981-0

This vessel has a munitions magazine in the database. But no capability for unnrep. At least according to the database. Not sure if that is accurate or not.

Here is my latest in the MH-60 series...the worn out USAF HH-60G...prominently featured in the National Geographic series "Inside Combat Rescue".

Please add a separate DB entry (from 1991 onwards) for the HH-60G Pave Hawk. All H-60s in AFSOC were passed to ACC in 1991. Now all HH-60Gs are operated by ACC Rescue Squadrons. You can use entry #242 MH-60G Pave Hawk as baseline and modify for new entry as follow.

1. Change to USAF vice US Army and change name to HH-60G Pave Hawk
2. Add AAQ-29 FLIR
3. Add weather mode to APN-239 radar. Is there any place where all the radar modes used (or modeled) in the game are listed? I don't want to keep posting mods that don't matter (or aren't modeled), but I have seen weather mapping in other entries, so I include it here.
4. Add 2 x GAU-21 mounts in place of 12.7mm mounts listed on #242
5. As for load outs...the HH-60Gs see more time carrying PJs, casualties, humanitarian cargo and displaced persons than anything else. Suggest removing the load outs for combat troops and add load out of - PJs, 3x
6. Add 194 USG auxiliary fuel tank (internal). See robbietanks for sourcing.
7. Add ALE-47
8. Add ALQ-202 radio frequency jammer. 2-3,10-20GHz Autonomous Jammer; manufactured by Lockheed Martin (Loral)
9. Defer to moderators if a SECOND DB entry is warranted from 2001 onwards...at that point the HH-60G was upgraded with the APR-39(V)2

Gents,

As an update to my 10/18/2014 2:51:48 PM post on helicopter armament subsystems. I recommended that ONE entry be made for all .50 cal weapons...it would look like this - GAU15/16/21. I unfortunately forgot the good ole GAU-18...since supplanted by the GAU-21 in service. If this change is made, could we name it this - GAU-15/16/18/21.

Thanks!

Some aircraft speed should be changed.
-F-5 Tiger II is to fast, 950kt or Mach 1.66 is about it's maximum speed clean. With weapons it should be less.

-The Su-17/22 M4 shouldn't go 950kt, too. Their maximum speed is about 970kt clean, so 950 with weapons is unrealistic.

-F-35 is way to fast. In reality it's maximum speed is about the 950kt it does in game but loaded with fuel and (internal) weapons I don't think it reaches the maximum Mach 1.66, especially with external weapons. The fact that in game it does the 950kt in military without afterburner is totally unrealistic. In different sources the F-35 is described to supercruise with Mach 1.2 for 10-15 minutes or about 150 miles without external weapons but never with Mach 1.6. With external payload the bird isn't capable to supercruise at all.

Can we add the following aircraft to the commercial section?

1. Boeing 777-200LR
2. Boeing 777-300ER

The wikipedia site for the 777 has all the specs for each 777 model. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_777)
