is it me or surface combat doesn't happen often due to the fact that both fleet need to finish there turn at the same hexe?

what about blokade? IMO when 2 fleet pass on the same hexe at same time there should be an immediate spot checking and fleet
with surface mission + react that made there check should get there opportunity to open fire, it would be much more realistic
and would make surface attack mission much much more effective
as well as sub attack

Tracking each hex a TF moved into is something that has been asked for before. I don't know if Matrix has any plans to implement this for WitP or not. It would provide for so opportunities for mid-ocean actions or blockades that do not exist now.

But when you consider that almost all the surface actions in the Pacific occured around landing locations (the only exception I can think of is the battle of Java Sea) and that even then surface actions were not that common, one can see that this is not going to be a high priority item.

Has anyone ever seen a Surface Action TF set to " React" actually react one or more hexs to engage ?

This happened all the time when you had this setting in Pac War, I have never seen it happen here.

In one of my PBeM games, my USN opponent based a SurCom TF at Efate Port Vila, set it to "React" and it set upon me every time I Bombarded Wunpunko or Luganville. I think SurCom "React" is limited to the Max Speed of the TF (in hexes).

There was mention some time ago of it being considered as a future enhancement (IIRC, both WITP and UV).

However, you don't need to wait for it to be implimented. As is, I think the following should be standard practice in a PBEM now.

If things get boring, you could issue a public challenge to your opponent, that he will be considered a coward if he refuses to meet you at dawn on the high seas at some location. 8" guns at 20,000 paces. And no, CVs are NOT to be used as your seconds.

Haven't had much luck with the AI yet. It seems to just ignore me. Cowardly bastard!

Spotting is important in reacting.

The TF being reacted to generally needs to have been spotted the previous day. I know that I have seen TFs react 11 hexes to TFs spoted the day prior, but when a TF pops up out of nowhere, nobody reacts.

As it stands right now, the Surface Combat Fleet's orders to react only apply to defending friendly bases. They will react to an enemy fleet entering a friendly base hex. There are no plans to change this that I know of.

In WITP the code is being change to give submarines the ability to react to a TF passing through the hex it is in.:D

Now, if only the pathfinding algorithm will have some variablility in it so the convoys won't run on the same path every time...;)

I don't see the pathfinding algorithm being changed. Waypoints are on the list but personally I think the chance of that being implemented is small. My workaround is to the make the true destination hex the Home base and then pick a mid-ocean point as the selected destination. Its like having one way point.
