I wish Steel Wolves had an AI and PC version, but I still enjoy the game (thanks to Vassal).

At least I'm getting a PC version with WIF.

My days of counters flipping and moving across the map due to map creases, wife, cat, wind, earthquakes, etc. is definitely over, and has been for quite some time.

And who does not like three hardback manuals. In color. WOW!

Random thoughts. Graded way too many papers today.

Ran out of red pens, huh.

I've played literally hundreds of board wargames solo in my lifetime and this particular game was one of the best solo experiences. The real issue with playing it solo was that the maps were large, there were thousands of counters, it took hundreds of hours to complete an entire global campaign and (I never actually did this because...) I had two cats. The thought of being able to set up a campaign and play it through to the end in my own time is good enough for me.

Normally, I would never contemplate buying a computer game to play solo, i.e. no AI opponent, but I'm willing to make an exception in this case. TBH, I can't see any way a computer AI could play this game to give me any sort of challenge. It's not like Command Ops where you can play a scenario a couple of times against the AI and then move onto a new scenario for a new experience. This AI will have to manage production, diplomacy as well as combat around the entire globe on WiF's scale. The time I invest making plans and executing them in Command Ops is rewarded by good AI play. In this game, I don't see any way that that time could be rewarded in WiF.

edit to add
Sorry, I was replying to the thread, not to one post in particular ;)

It depends on your definition of solitaire.
If you meant that you can play both sides, then yes.
But if you meant would there be an AI Opponent, then no.

OK it's clear: I GO - I GO

I agree with the guys talking about spending so many days to play WiF, ASL and Battle for Normandy against my self; and... yes: sometime I cheated
