I'm very close to buying this game. I have looked at a lot of AARs and all the screenshots on the product page. One thing that I have noticed is that in a lot of the screen shots the units seem to lack a certain crispness in the letters and numbers and in some cases even seem slightly blurred. Is that just a result of copying the graphics to this forum and the units in game will appear a lot better? It won't be a showstopper for me, I always value game play over graphics. I'm just curious on what I'll be getting.

Funny you brought that up.

I'm finding that the unit visuals do appear to lack some crispness in the game - on a Monitor running at 1920X1080. I wondered at first if I could adjust the resolution of the game to improve their visual appearance but haven't been able to find any option to do so. It's not something that I find a show stopper as I can still read the values quite easily. It seems to be most evident in graphic depictions of the aircraft.

These graphics are from my beta tester game settings 1024 x 768 so I am not to sure what you are talking about these look pretty good to me.

From testing, I've found the counter graphics to be lovely and sharp.

I don't know guys. I think they're pretty crisp. Of course the farther zoomed out they lose a little of that crispness, but that is just the nature of the beast.

I would say the screen captures will tend to lose resolution compared to the in-game graphics; I have noticed that particularly with the screenshots I did for my AAR. AFAIK that depends on the resolution your screen captures use.

All told if you are looking at AAR screenshots, expect the graphics in game to be sharper on the average.

i found the ship battle screenshots on the product page to be terrible quality (very blurry).

if u didnt read the forum, you would get a really bad impression :(

Rememeber if you have your graphic card settings set for DX11 one of those settings can make writing blurred and fuzzy.

I have to say they look quite crisp to me as well in game. If you are having issues with any blurry graphics, could you try a screen capture to a format like PNG and post an example here?

Might I suggest using the 'Snipping Tool' that comes with windows.

It will let you clip a smaller piece of the screen and your email client may not try to 'reduce size' of the picture.

The counters in my Barbarossa AAR are a little blurry because I compressed all my screenshots in an effort to reduce load times for people with slower connections. But yeah, I love the unit graphics in this game.

As I see it the high res unit counters are sized for zoom level 8. With lower zoom levels the graphics get down sampled an the unit texts printed on the left of the counter are harder to read. The funny thing is the graphics card 'Clear-type' setting influences the text on the counters so you might want to switch of clear-type or recalibrate your clear-type settings to stop this from happening.

With zoom levels 6-8 the unit graphics are clear enough to read. When you use zoom level 5 or lower the Flyout feature will automatically show a closeup of the unit (very clever, the program is full of tricks like this, everything has been well thought out). When you go up to zoom 3 it's probably beter to change the unit counters to medium res and switch off the Flyout feature, that way you can move large amounts of counter and cover great distances.

Two things impact the graphics, both of which have been mentioned above:

1 - the screen capture utility might lose resolution and when the jpg is transferred to the document in which it appears may distort them some more.

2 - there are 8 levels of zoom. At the highest, a unit is shown using 96 pixels by 96 pixels. At the lowest, they are 12 pixels by 12 pixels. At level 4, they are 48 by 48. So if the screenshot is of units at a lower resolution, the sharpness will definitely be less.

No, what I believe what steve is saying is that the further you zoom out, the less pixels are used for each counter.

There is a button you can push to change the way counters are displayed, which reduces their graphic "overhead" (or whatever the technical term is).

Ok, the post of boshar mentioned about changing to medium resolution that's why I asked about it.
The pixels used depending on the zoom level makes perfect sense.

For captures I just use the PrtScn key and then a freeware program called paint.NET (which is an excellent graphics/paint program) to select the section of the screen I require. JPEG is a lossy format, so you may get some blurriness saving as those.
