Ok so I've been mucking around with mine warfare got some planes to drop some mines and then sent in some mine sweepers to clear the way. I have some questions on it.

1. When the mines are dropped they have a count down number next to them, is that til they're active or reached their depth?

2. When I sent in the mine sweepers they took alot of damage and some sank. Is that normal for the minesweepers to take so much damage?

Yes. Look up WW2, Inchon, numerous Vietnam ops and the clearing of the Suez. MCM ships are tougher built than line warships and can take more shock punishment but after a while the damage adds up.
