I'm just the logistics chief and don't have the straight skinny but I've heard some ideas being tossed about during meetings and from
what I've been able to gather Burma is just about the only place where we can hit back and not get slaughtered by it. We will have to
ask Admiral Jim Moore what he's got going on but I'm guessing he's going to say something similar. Everything else is dominated by
the Japs.

There is no point in trying to "hit back" in the air. You can never compete in the air as he will have near endless number of planes and pilots. You on the other hand don´t. Allied airframe pools are critical throughout the war. Especially in 42.

Save the planes for when it counts. Sweeping just for sweeping is a loosing proposition.

Good luck!

Joc,

It was a single Hurricane squadron that disbands April 10th, according to my loose figures I raised the experience level of the pilots from 52 to 59 on average by doing this. Come April 1st I'm going to send those pilots to reserves and disband the squadron 10 days early as I just got two new RAF squadrons delivered to Bombay.

I understand your point and EVERY other fighter group in Burma is stacked over the bases between 20-25K on 80% CAP...

The only change that will come early next month is when the 6th Australian whacks either Magwe or Mandalay with armor/AT in tow. J3 has been using almost all of his tanks to quick move in the deserts of OZ, so I'm thinking he sent most of his Burma troops to OZ, which means I should be able to roll him back a fair bit in Burma before he can react with force.

PS There is also the "other" Aussie Division (5th,7th?) I shipped to India and they are at Chittagong waiting to see if they are needed, and filling out in reserve(pursuit)they are at 93% TOE and experience levels are +60... Supply is 50K+ at Chittagong and over 100K at Calcutta...

J3 is also using his carriers to whack Hiva Oa in the French Polynesian Is. - the trouble for him is I've got 5 full squadrons of P-39/P-400's waiting there. The first day of battle ended around 1-1 slightly in his favor, but he lost 30 top line Zeroes and around 20 Kate's and Val's for 50 P-39's damaged/destroyed... I see that a small win.

Biggest problem that Allied players suffer from is the feeling that "I've got to do something, anything".

You can't afford to fight the Japanese in '42 unless you are in overwhelming force, or you are at your "line in the sand", where you have decided thats where I'm going to put my troops, thats where I'm going to stop him.

Hiva Ova is as good as place as any, but I do question what that CV TF of yours is going to do?

Yeah I've been accused of that lately!

Today - It's not so much the feeling I have to "do" something (And I have said those very words on here), just my experiences playing this game are nothing like what I'm experiencing at the hands of J3.

As far as the CV's go, they are going to sit in PH training pilots for at least one or two more months. (CV Hornet gets her upgrade in April)

I have been reading several past AAR's as well as current ones to get an idea of what to do... I lean towards the idea to create the Hammer and Anvil approach using captured bases in the S.Pacific to leapfrog to the next one, not trying to capture each and every base in turn.

Another is a suggestion that I consider re-taking Wake Is, and force J3 to come at me in a setting of my own choosing, not his. I am not sold on Wake but understand the idea its a direct stepping stone to Japan's inner circle of islands and John is likely to come out to fight for it.

All suggestions are gratefully accepted. As I obviously have a density problem between my ears, feel free to use a big stick to make your points

I think you are doing the right thing fighting him at Hivo Ova (spelling?)

Not sure an invasion of Burma in '42 is sensible though!

For me, its NOT the question of taking a particular base. The question to answer here and at other bases, is what will you do when your opponent (either side) has two to four weeks to react to this move?? The follow up forces, the ability to reinforce, and the ability to hold what I just took are the questions that come to mind.

Can you take Wake Island?? Probably

Can you keep it and reinforce it?? Probably not at this time in the game, IMO. You will need CVs to keep the SLOC to Wake open. You don't have enough of them to do so.

Well for starters your track record is much better than mine as to J3 abilities!

Hiva Oa (same thing, I don't know how to spell it either)French Polynesian Is. is how I know it from History classes.

Burma Pro's:

1)India has the shortest supply routes (from Cape Town, Abadan, and Aden)and probably the best rail system in the game to move everything. (debatable of course)
2) The Aussie 6th Div is pretty well experienced and has plenty of AT and armor with it on its journey.
3) It's well within supply range of Calcutta for aircraft. (I have three DC-2/C-46 Transport groups arriving in the next 30 days) If between the two Aussie ID's there, if I can reopen the Hump, then some Chinese base on the other side gets serious replacements. (Unfortunately I cant remember the base's name Michael told me about)

Burma Cons:
1) Horrible monsoons and movement restrictions.
2) Several AAR's note how easy it is to bottle up and delay large forces in Burma (rivers, jungle etc.)

I do not intend to blitzkrieg the area like John did. I intend of taking it and fortifying what's gained until later in the war when I have much more at my disposal. My past exploits against the A.I. see me do a Spring '44 march from Bangkok straight across Asia to relieve Hong Kong from the grubby Japs hands. Now I've never done this against a real player - so I'm selling this by weight, not by volume...

And listening to suggestions. I'm kind of afraid to send the Aussie ID's anywhere by sea right now as J3 pretty much controls it all... so I may be stuck with this idea.

Michael,

I absolutely agree with your assessment!

Right now I've got the ju ju beads rolling and incense burning that J3's CV's outside of Hiva Oa will run into ANY of the 4 S-boats I have right around there. 2 SS are low on fuel, so if Hiva Oa falls - I'm in real trouble saving them.

Actually to be fair - I don't think the person suggesting Wake was talking about right now, That's my fault for not making it clear!
The conversation was starting with getting some of John's carriers off the board first before doing any invasions. His suggestion of using the subs to screen my ports is good, because they are really dependent on staying close to fuel/supply depots! (at least the S-boats can shoot good torps!)
