Gday Andy,

Still working through the game, up to late Feb 44.

Trying to avoid spoilers.

A bit of a grind on the ground, around Rangoon numbers are even, I got pushed out of Pegu 2 days before my forces arriving should have held it, but the IJA hasnt been strong enough to take Rangoon. (I'm not got to explain why so that others can work it out themselves)

In the North I am just starting to move, the jungle is as much to blame as the IJA.

At sea, miniKB rules, at the moment, Beaufighters put 1 torp into a CVL/CVE, the IJN BB's keep visiting, again I got some torp claims, I should start getting my CVE armada soon so we'll see what happens next.

The air is in balance, and thats depite getting 2:1 victories, too many RAF sqns are based back in Assam so I'm fighting out of Rangoon, Bassein & Prome, The Spit VIII is supreme, 1 have 1 Sqn each of P51A, P47D-2 & P38J which do well but numbers are low. One of my better Sqns has B25H, some silly Hayabusa's got in the way of the 12 x 50cal, confetti! (I'd like to think they used the head on tactic used against B24D and assumed the B25 only had 1 forward mg)

Its a good little scenario, plenty of options to consider and cover.

v5 Posted with working AI for Japan and many many amendments

Starting to play this.

With each new update, and in particular as you upgrade the AI, any chance it will work with an ongoing game? Or will restarts always be required?

The AI doesnt update but I am not planning on messing with the Jap AI until a few people have played it through

Most of my efforts will be on the allied AI for the time being

Jeff my main concern is should it be one scen or two ??

i.e. 1st 6 months rescue XV COrps
2nd 6 months OPeration Zipper

To win the allies need Rangoon and Singapore

That was the intent of the scenario

Japan only needs one of them to win

I would prefer 2 stand alone scenarios.

ZIPPER/TIDERACE has always been an interesting "what if".

In MF, I have moved along to late April 44, 14th Army has finally crawled out of the jungles onto the Central Burma plains. I can now concentrate them against what should be undersupplied IJA formations, strangely the IJA seems to be continually supplied??

Allied airpower starts to be overwhelming. I have reasonable numbers of P38H & Spit VIII and a few Sqns of P47D-25, P51B, Corsair II & Hellcat I and lots of Hurricane IIC. japanese airpower seems to have been worn down, 2000 plus losses must have some effect.

My 4 CVE rule the Bay of Bengal, as long as I keep out of range and the Killer B's are taking shots at various targets across the map.

The scenario has been a lot of fun, though I think I've broken the back of it now, I'll see how it pans out.

Has the Beaufighter being an attack bomber made them more credible I always strruggled with them as FB's in game ??

With that level of losses you may not need to take Singapore to win which may require a tweaking of the victory conditions

Didnt know I had to take Singapore!!!!!

Late June, Ive relieved Rangoon, taken Pegu & Sittang Bridge and am about to try Moulmein. I might slow there ans try a right hook.

I've been sending recce flights over Mergui, Tavoy, Phuket * Langkawi looking for an easy capture to set up airbases to support landings on the Malay Peninsula.

I'm unsure about the Beaufighter, about 140 TFX losses but they have had unescorted strikes against IJA TF moving within CAP range, not a fair comparison.

Well I wasnt giving you all those extra naval assets in 2nd half for nothing.....

To draw allies should need to hold Rangoon
To win hold Rangoon and take Singapore by end Dec 44

One of the things I am really noticing in this scenario is how much more realistic the sub war plays out without hundreds of LBA concentrating on ASW

I also like the Brigade/Regiment scale, but, would also like to rebuild them to Divisions now that Burma has been cleared.

Folly or Strategic Genius, a picture of Day 1 of the scenario.

The forces around Rangoon are marginally enough to hold the area. Andy has added a number of small bases to make holding/capturing areas more structured, maybe an addition to campaign games?

I'll try and run an AAR, now I've mastered the capture picture thingy after 10 years!

Just came across this after a few months away, and I needed a scenario to try out AE on my new widescreen monitor, so the timing was ideal for me. I really like Burma as a scenario area, it's one I've focused on myself, so it's interesting to compare and contrast, and I'm definitely stealing the Chin and Karen hills - adding locations to represent a region rather than a specific settlement hadn't occurred to me.

Too early to comment on the gameplay yet, I'm only three days in, but it's clear the Japs are massing at the Sittang and to the north of the British lodgement, so I expect things to turn grim quite shortly!

Argh, the huge battles on the Sittang and to the east of Prome I was expecting, having everything I had at sea to cover a minor supply run to Port Blair absolutely savaged, not so much!

Stalled on this at the moment - too many other things going on to sit down and make some progress, but got through the first month. Major comment is that naval AI may be too aggressive - it sat three light carrier groups just off the wharf at Trincomalee, so the Eastern Fleet destroyers had a feeding frenzy when they sortied, sending all three + Ise + escorts to the bottom, then a week later lost a 4th CVL doing the same.

Excellent scenario, and I really appreciate the effort to provide smaller scenarios in which to enjoy this great game!

Ground Unit reinforcement schedule has a CD dated 30th Nov 45. Probably needs to be 44'

HQ NCAC, HQ Galahad, HQ 36 Ind Div and units of 36th Ind Div, 71st Ind Bde all need targets. Have prep days
but no target.

13 days in as Allies. Japan counterattacks, crosses river and captures Pegu. Lead Japanese forces entering Rangoon.

Despite IJN CVL TF patrolling Andaman Sea, a small cargo TF gets much needed supplies to Little Andaman.

Also, the IJN continues to send DD TFs into Rangoon and the mines there are inflicting losses (3 DD's in 15 days).

While you can't stop the AI from running the TFs, you might reduce the number of mines?

Andy, given that AE removed the ability to have the computer run sectors of the full map scenarios, I applaud any and all attempts to produce smaller, more easily playable versions.

(While still mourning the loss of the computer-run sectors...)

Steve.
