I have bought Command when it came out.

I have 3 questions :

1) A fighter or multirole which is on RTB because it is out of ammo (regarding missiles) cannot change its route to attack an helo with its gun. Is that normal ?

2) The same fighter always on RTB cannot receive the order to accelerate and can be catched by an enemy fighter running postcombustion. Is that normal ?

3) How can I split a surface group ?

1) Yes but you can break the rtb logic by hitting the u key and plot and attack.
2) Same as above. Hit u to break from the logic. You can then hit F2 and readjust your speed. Hit rtb again when you need to land.
3) View the group in unit view. Select a unit and hit d to detach the unit from the group. Repeat as needed.

Mike,

These sort of tips, and others that people have supplied, are extremely useful: are they documented anywhere or will they be when 1.02 is released? At the moment they are spread out amongst a vast number of posts and I would prefer playing the sim rather than wading through the posts on the off-chance.......

Unfortunately, as in this case, the heading of many of the topics is so general that you can't sensibly search for these 'short cuts', options etc. I had the same problem with designating 'slots' to make it easy to switch screen between two (or more) locations. I couldn't find it but someone helped out....

The 'problem' here is that you are the victims of your own superb support: so many things are changing that the manual is way out of date and, as here, it appears that many of the 'options' are unknown.

Would it not be sensible to have a 'Hints and tips sticky' which listed items like this?

Congratulations on an excellent product by the way.

I've set up a Command wiki but there isn't much content yet.

Plus I have a command documentation page at http://baloogancampaign.com/command-documentation/

Just remember - Hitting "U" is not to cancel RTB, it's to Unassign a unit from a mission. So hit "U" when it's on an attack mission and it will no longer attack. RTB is considered a mission, so hit "U" and it won't continue the RTB mission.

RTB is not a mission, it's a possible status for a unit.

I think the u button is listed and discussed in the manual. I always suggest, regardless how painful, reading the manual after playing a couple sessions. I read it maybe once a week. It also has a good search function.

As to changes since release, the readme for 1.01 and the build roll for the later releases has a lot of key facts in it.

Hi Thewood1,

Thanks for your past help.

Your point is well made but I think that there are two/three issues, here:

1. The manual certainly does have 'u' as a shortcut for:

"Unassign selected units from a mission." (But as Sunburn remarked in the post immediately prior to yours,

RTB is not a mission.....)

So I'm not sure it is totally reasonable to expect other than the real die-hards to make this specific connection.

2. Things have moved on, even from 1.01. I don't have an issue with a comprehensive list such as was issued for that release and if 1.02 produces a comprehensively updated list I shall be delighted. But doesn't that rather support my 'concern'. Someone has to put the list together: why no do it in 'real time' so everyone can benefit?

3. Understanding the fairly cryptic comments on the roll (six pages and rolling). This is not meant as a criticism merely that there is quite a lot to plough through as, quite reasonably, it deals more with bugs fixed than with new features. And sometimes unless you know what you are looking for the importance of a change can pass you by.

I absolutely agree that someone who is pretty much immersed in this (excellent) sim and has the time to do so can winnow out, probably, all they need. But for those who don't have that time to spend and would prefer to put it to good use playing the sim, things are somewhat more difficult. Witness the (large) number of forum posts on the subjects: how do I do this....., I can't load that etc. And unlike many developers you tend to find that there is a way to resolve these queries as the 'problems' have been thought of and solved before we found we needed them.....

I agree that, once things settle down this will be less of an issue but the change dynamics at the moment, although much to the developers credit, could make the sim less satisfying for the less dedicated purchaser.

Perhaps we are destined to disagree on this.

Appreciate the input and we'll try and improve this process as we move forward.

It sounds like a Mission to me instead of a Status because a unit with status RTB won't listen to any order before you Unnasign it from the mission/status.
