Status: offline 		Several months ago, I reported starting a CHS game vs Jap AI. I intend this to be a complete Dec 7, 1941 to the finish which should check the CHS fairly completely. I was cautioned that CHS had not been thoroughly checked into the latter years. Here is summary of progress so far.

Dec 7, 1941 to Aug 1, 1942

Japanese initial attack on PH was not as effective as historical. Devastated US aircraft but only BB Nevada sunk.
Japanese failed to capture Wake
Japanese captured Singapore about on schedule
Hong Kong put up stubborn, protracted resistance and held out until May!
Philippines also resisted stoutly and Bataan and Manila also held out until May.
Doug joined his troops in captivity
British chose not to defend Rangoon and retreated their troops
Aussies/US decided to defend Rabaul.
Japanese failed to capture Rabaul!! Lose Junyo in process. A24's on Rabaul proved devastating.
Allies hold Rabaul, Kavieng and Shortlands. Intelligence says Japanese planning another go at Rabaul.
Two carriers plus Long Island w/F4F's under Halsey @ Shortlands to defend Rabaul. Many land based bombers in range.
Japanese efforts in NEI partially successful. Celebes, Borneo and Sumatra captured.
Japanese persist in effort to capture Java. UK, US NEI airforces now at good strength. Japanese ship losses very high including 2 BB's
They appear bogged down taking Java. Several CA's and CVL's appreciably damaged in process.
Japanese stalled in their progress in Burma/India.
UK hold a line of Akyab - Magwe - Mandalay - Lashio - Tsuyung in strength. Japanese beating themselves up at Akyab.
Japanese invaded Port Blair. UK reinforced. Japanese attriting and will likely be wiped out in the next month
Allied aircraft winning control at last. Loss of early zero advantage + better allied aircraft and experience winning
China has been quiet. Guerilla forces have been effective in capturing undefended bases behind Japanese lines.
Ship losses: Japanese 1CV, 2 BB's, 15 DD's, 10 subs: Allies 0 CV's, 1 BB, 1CA, 2CL's, 8 DD's, 3 subs
Ship losses score: Japanese 370 ships/2918 pts.: Allies 105 ships/888 pts.

So far the CHS version is playing OK. The additional ports of Aden and Panama introduce some change in where reinforcements enter
Dumb AI does't put subs at US ports so using Panama to end run supplies to Oz isn't necessary.
Allies still suffer from shortage of a/c to upgrade so some Mohawks still in service. They are worthless.
NEI aircraft basically shot up and no good fighter upgrade available until mid-1943.

Observation: Japanese are going to be in a world of hurt in 1943 unless Allies screw up.

So far, this version is an improvement over base WitP without the micromanagement of WitP-AE. I will post again in Mid- 1943

Two major naval engagements occurred in September. Japanese sortied from Truk with carrier task forces. Allied intelligence misjudged strength. Sent Halsey with Yorktown and Wasp to intercept. Japanese had 4 fleet carriers + at least one CVL. Halsey recklessly attacked. Yorktown and Wasp sunk. Japanese then converted major victory into marginal one by lingering in vicinity of Kavieng and allied land-based air proceed to sink CVL Shoho and CV Akgai. Next Japanese sent carrier task force into Java Sea. Java still strongly controlled by allies with good land-based air. Japanese lost CVL Hiyo and CV Zuho. Japanese while still formidable have lost carrier initiative. They are down three CV's and two CVL's to allies two CV's. Additionally, at least one of their surviving CV's was seriously damaged in Java Sea engagement. Took a Beaufort torpedo.
Meanwhile, British succeeded in defeating Japanese at Port Blair. China is quiet. Chinese airforce is trained up to reasonable proficiency and equipped with Vanguards and Lancers. Chinese air war is now a push. Japanese are stalemated in Burma. Attrition battle at Akyab tending to be favorable to British. British bombing Rangoon airbase to suppress Japanese air. Seems to be working.
Unless the allies really screw up, Japan is going to be in a world of hurt in 1943. Halsey has been benched with a desk job!
CHS version of WITP is working well. No anomalies so far.

Another blow to Japanese naval strength. The fleet carrier Zuikaku which was badly damaged during the land air/carrier engagement in the Java Sea sank enroute to (presumably) Manila for repair. The Japanese are now down four CV's and two CVL's to the allies two CV's. A somewhat worse position than they were in at roughly the same time after Midway in the real conflict.

Japanese have remained active in Java Sea area. This has been an expensive proposition for them. They bombarded Soerabaja with a very poor outcome for them. Land-base air in the vicinity exacted a heavy toll on their capital ships. One BB sunk, 2-3 CA's seriously damaged - one may yet sink. They appear to have at last decided to give up trying to take Java. Most ships are being withdrawn. Dutch recaptured Merak by defeating the Japanese forces there which had withered due to lack of supply. Once the airbase at Merak has been built up, Palembang will be seriously threatened by Beauforts carrying torpedoes. The British launched a carrier raid on Soerabaja in an attempt to sink a damaged CV and CVL that were at anchor there. The CV and CVL apparently departed before the arrival of the British task force but the Albacore torpedo bombers wreaked havoc on transports anchored there sinking at least four.

Intelligence indicates that the Japanese are contemplating movement against the East coast of New Guinea. As a result, the allies have moved forces to Hollandia and Madang. This is about the only likely place where the Japanese can strike without having to run the land-based air gauntlet. Given time to build airbases at Hollandia and Madang, they will have some difficulty. If they move quickly, they may succeed. I have two CV's in the South Pacific but am reluctant to commit them to defend Hollandia given that the Japanese may be able to equip a carrier task force of equal strength. The zero's are still more than a match for wildcat's.

Overall, the Japanese are in poor shape for it still being 1942. By mid-1943, the Allies will be in good position to go over to the offensive. There are several options. Central Pacific starting with Tarawa; Netherland East Indies aiming at Palembang, Borneo or Celebes; or strengthening New Guinea for a drive on the Philippines. What to do, what to do.....

The CHS version of WITP is performing well.

The first year of the war did not go very well for the Japanese. Their attack on Pearl was successful against US airplanes but not successful against the fleet. Only one BB was sunk. All of the Pearl Harbor BB's have repaired and returned to service.

The Japanese captured the Philippines and Hong Kong after heavy and prolonged resistance by the Allies.

The Japanese failed to capture Wake I.

The Japanese also had a failed invasion of Rabaul -- a major setback. Additionally, they failed to capture Java -- an even worse setback.

Currently, the Allies stand on a line in the Solomons/New Guinea anchored on Rabaul and including Kavieng and Admiralty I. In the Dutch E. Indies, the Allies hold Java. They have very strong land-based air which has had a devastating effect on Japanese persistence in the area. The Japanese have lost 3 CV's, 1 CVL and 3 BB's in this theater. Losses of light forces and transports have been similarly heavy. the Japanese appear to be finally exiting the theater but continue to be pounded as the leave. In the Burma/India theater, fighting is stalemated. The Allies stand on a line of Akyab-Magwe-Mandalay-Lashio-Tsuyung. Attrition fighting continues at Akyab. The Japanese are suffering the worst. The Allies finally wiped out the Japanese forces at Port Blair.

Major naval losses for the Japanese are 4 CV's, 2 CVL's 3 BB's and 2 CA's.
Major naval losses for the Allies are 2 CV's, 1 BB and 2 CA's.

The Allies initially suffered a significant defeat in the sea area around Kavieng. Halsey rashly gave battle to a Japanese force containing at least 3 CV's and 2 CVL's and lost 2 CV's. The Japanese converted this major victory into a marginal one by lingering too long in the area and eventually losing a CV and a CVL to land-based air.

China theater has been quiet. Chinese air is mostly Vanguards and P-43's. They are trained up and a pretty fair match to Oscars and Nates.

Allied air strength is quickly improving. P-38's are growing in strength and beginning in 1943, Corsairs will start appearing. By mid-1943, Allied naval and air strength will be strong enough to begin invasion operations. In the meantime, the Allies continue to strengthen the E. Coast of New Guinea at Hollandia, Madang and Sorong.

The CHS version of WITP is working well.

Does this mean that the Burma Road is still open? If so, will the supplies allow you to upgrade the Chinese Air Force?

Status: offline 		Mandalay-Lashio road is blocked at hex 34 30 by Japanese ground forces. Myitkyina-Tsuying is open. There is 123875 supply at Chungking. Most of the Chinese air units have trained up into the high 50's to low 60's. The Vanguards and P-43's seem to be able to hold their own against the Nates and Oscars. There are two squadrons of Tojos operating in the theater. They don't seem very effective either. I have one squadron of P-40E's in the theater. The Chinese have upgraded I-16's to either Vanguards or P-43's except for one remaining I-16 squadron. The Chinese guer. forces in CHS have been fairly effective in seizing cities behind Japanese lines which the Japanese failed to keep occupied. Currently they hold Suchow and Tsinan. In Sept. '43 when the Chinese can upgrade their bombers to B-25J's,(if the Burma Road stays open) they can do some serious hurt to Japanese ground and naval forces.

January 1, 1943

The Japanese have suffered another naval defeat near Rabaul. They sent a carrier task force to Rabaul. Land-based air from Rabaul, Kavieng, Shortlands and Port Morsbey savaged them. Kaga confirmed destroyed. A CVL was hit so many times it is likely also destroyed (unconfirmed so far). Several CA's were damaged. The US lost a CVE to a Japanese sub torpedo while operating near Shortlands.

The Japanese continue to operate in the Java Sea. Losses for them to land-based air are high. The Yamato was bombed severely and suffered significant damage here. China is still quiet.

In Burma/India, the allies are moving to the offensive. Meiktila has been reoccupied which cuts the supply line to Japanese at 33,30 and 33,40. Additionally, there is movement to surround the jap forces at Akyab thus cutting their supply from Rangoon. The Japanese may have enough strength to retake Meiktila but it is not close at hand.

Allied air strength is sufficient to maintain air superiority over land bases. The Corsairs are coming! The allies continue to pound Rangoon from the air and seem successful in suppressing Japanese fighters and bombers there.

The US is planning an attack on Tarawa.

The CHS version of WITP is behaving well.

CVL Hosho confirmed sunk off Rabaul. Japanese are now down 5 CV's and 3CVL's.

The battle for Meiktila is on! Japanese have pulled back troops from threatening positions near Mandalay and Lashio in an attempt to recapture Meiktila. Allies are moving reinforcements to Meiktila.

Most Japanese ships have exited the Java Sea and bases adjoining it. The naval "turkey shoot" in the Java Sea appears over. Significant damage was done to Japanese capital ships in this theater.

Allies are gathering land forces for a move into the Celebes.

The Japanese attempt to retake Meiktila failed. Allied counterattacks forced them to retreat. Weak Japanese forces moved to hex 31,31 to attempt to block further allied advance. Taung Gyi was also recaptured by allied forces. Japanese forces at Akyab are isolated and allied attacks are at better than 30 to one. when the Japanese forces at Akyab are finally destroyed, the way to Rangoon will be wide open. In the India/Burma theater, the commonwealth forces (with a little help from the Chinese) have driven the Japanese back to the Siamese border. The allies are at the Akyab-Magwe-Meiktila-Taung Gyi-Lashio-Tsuyung line in strength and pushing reinforcements towards Meiktila for further advances. Allied airpower in the theater has complete command of the air.

Japanese activity in the Solomons has been limited to submarine attacks. The Japanese still have a huge presence at Truk which is a worry. Intelligence suggests they may launch an invasion of Wewak. The US is moving to reinforce this objective. Betty's from Truk still pose a significant threat to allied ships on the east coast of New Guinea.

The US is staging at Canton Island for an invasion of Tarawa. This invasion will not be launched until the US deploys the Essex and 4 CVL's to the invasion forces. The Essex is due in 109 days. The invasion fleet will then command 3 CV's, 4 CVL's and 4-5 CVE's. Against this, the Japanese can send, at most, their 3 remaining CV's and 3-4 CVL's (of inferior capability). I may send another CV from the south pacific to bolster the invasion fleet. The Japanese carrier potential is still strong. US dive bombers and torpedo bombers are a match for their Japanese counterparts but the F4F-4 Wildcats are inferior to the Japanese zeros.

The Australians are staging at Darwin for an invasion of Celebes. Additionally, they intend to take back Bali to provide an additional airbase. Japanese forces on Bali have been unsupplied for a long time and are likely weakened. The Brits are sending a carrier task force of two CV's and the Hermes to assist Australian efforts for the Dutch East Indies reoccupation efforts. Most invasion ground forces will be Australian AIF divisions. Because the allies didn't have to recapture the Solomons and New Guinea, there are forces available which can be used to take back the Dutch East Indies prior to any effort towards the Philippines. Since Dugout Doug is in captivity, there is no strong advocacy for retaking the Philippines and the allies may very well take a pass on recapturing them.

Allied airpower has been strengthened substantially by P-38 fighters which can more than hold their own against zeros. Additionally corsairs are starting to be deployed. The navy badly needs hellcats for their carriers to match the Japanese fighters. The Brits will soon be deploying corsairs on their carriers and with their avengers will have better air complements than the US - although not as many per carrier.

China is still quiet. Several Chinese divisions are aiding the commonwealth in Burma but their morale is so low they are of little use except to occupy rear area objectives.

The CHS version of WITP is still behaving well -- no abnormalities. The AI is still lame and deployment of Japanese submarines is somewhat ineffective. No subs off the west coast. No need to use the Panama Canal to send supplies to Suva area. Supplies can ship directly from the west coast without escort. Unlike WITPAE.

Status: offline 		I'm near the end of modded CHS (November, 1944).  No gross game flaws spotted. The pilot overflow bug hit in the summer of 1944, irritating but not fatal.  I'm dealing with the AI by hot-seating both sides.  I adopted a house rule of giving the Japanese a chance to win outright by leading on points on Nov 1, 1944 - electing an Isolationist GOP presidential candidate who would negotiate a peace.  The Japanese had at least chance until they staked everything on an assault on Chungking that turned into a fiasco in early '44.  The IJA had carved China into four pieces: Yenan, an eastern pocket between the Yangtze and Pearl, the Southern Pocket south of the Pearl and Indochina, and then the Highlands Chungking to the headwaters of the Yellow, but split by the Himilaya Massif. The IJA surrounded Chungking and threw something like 30+ divisions at it, but the KMT had the bulk of their army there so it has turned into a Siege of Leningrad situation.The Japanese don't have the advantage to overcome grossly disparate 0:1 attacks so the fortifications are not being reduced and can't move out of the Chungking hex.  However, I found Chungking to be something of a black hole for the Japanese even in stock (I could launch a bombardment attack after eliminating all KMT forces from Chungking, and it would land on something (evidently on Chinese ghost units)).   The USA will win an auto-victory on January 1, 1945 at the latest.

The Japanese units which have been fighting stubbornly at Akyab have been wiped out. The way to Rangoon is wide open. The commonwealth will rest and resupply their victorious units in Akyab for a week and then begin the advance on Rangoon.

The Aussies are staging their invasion forces led by the 6th AIF 4 hexes off of Bali. They are supported by 2 CV's and the Hermes and a US fleet including 3 veteran BB's. It is D-day minus 6.

Status: offline 		One thing that I did see was what I'm calling a "task force overflow" error.  CHS adds Aden and the Panama Canal so I've ended up have extra task forces in those sea lines of communications.  As you get to the mid to end game when the Allies can mount a serious submarine blockade, then the Allies will have a few more task forces in play than I'm used to in stock. I found that I could create a task force in the game that disappears when your leave the task force creation screens.  The ships (and any loaded troops) appear as reinforcements a couple days later back on the West Coast or Panama.   There is an obvious work-around that the Allied player just has to demonstrate better discipline in managing the overall number of task forces. I don't think this is a CHS unique flaw, I think its just a consequence of longer sea lanes in CHS for the Allies.

Status: offline 		engineer, you're input on task force overflow error is much appreciated. I haven't seen it yet. I intend to do three things to, hopefully, avoid the problem. First, don't use the Panama Canal for moving supplies. This isn't needed anyway since the Japanese don't patrol subs off the West Coast -- at least so far. Second, retire old and short-ranged subs (S-class and KV-class). The japs have finally given up on bases adjoining the Java Sea and moved out all shipping. Thus the 3500 range KV-class Dutch subs are not very useful anymore. With improved US torpedoes coming into play, the S-class subs with their better old torpedoes are not as useful as they were earlier. Third, move supplies using fewer, larger TF's.

March 11, 1942

As mentioned above, Japanese shipping at Palembang, Kendari, Makassar and Balikpapen have all skedaddled so sub patrols within the Java Sea area are not required. The Aussie/Dutch forces have completed the capture and securing of Bali. Additionally, they have retaken Teloekbetoeng which was abandoned by the Japanese and are building up the airbase. The British carriers proved their worth. The invasion fleet near Bali was assailed by (estimated) 100+ unescorted Betty's during the invasion. LRC and British carrier fighters shot them to pieces and no Allied ships were hit.

The US is nearly complete in its preparations to invade Tarawa. They moved some base and engineering forces onto Abemama to provide an airbase within LRC range of Tarawa. Having not properly reconnoitered Abemama, they were surprised to find a small Japanese force was there. It was speedily overcome. The US will support the invasion with 3 CV's and 5 CVE's as well as 5 BB's.

Truk continues to be a worry. It is strongly garrisoned. Recon intelligence says 67 ground units, 63 ships and around a hundred each fighters and bombers. I have moved my South Seas fleet up to Rabaul. 2 CV's, 2 CVE's 4 BB's 6 CA's.

A worry is US carrier fighter inferiority vs Japanese zeros. The British are somewhat better off as they have Seafires.

The Allies have targeted Nauru and Makassar for their next invasions. An overland attack from Teloekbetoeng towards Palambang is under consideration but adequate air cover is a concern.

The Commonwealth forces are advancing (slowly due to bad roads/terrain) from Akyab to Rangoon. There are few Japanese forces to oppose them so far.

Tarawa has fallen. After a short, bloody three-day battle, Tarawa was taken and the Japanese wiped out. Two army divisions, the 41st and the Americal as well as the 155th US RCT were used. The landing did not go well. The 41st and the 155th RCT were supposed to invade the beach simultaneously. The 41st division was unaccountably slow. Thus, the 155th was not supported on the 1st shock attack and were nearly destroyed. The reserve Americal Division was quickly committed. The Japanese staged a final banzai attack and were eliminated. A Japanese fleet did not sortie and there was no Japanese air to oppose the landing. The 155th RCT is on the way back to Pearl to rest and refit weapons and manpower.

The Japanese attempted another sortie into the Java Sea. Two task forces. One loaded with troops and one surface task force with 4 CA's and a CL. Destination unknown since the transport TF was totally destroyed with loss of all troops before their destination could be determined and the surface combat TF beat a hasty retreat after being bombed severely by land-based air. The Japanese persist in trying to conduct operations into the Java Sea. Will they never learn! It has become their version of "Iron Bottom Sound" without many losses by the Allies.

The Commonwealth forces continue to advance on Rangoon. The Commonwealth forces are nearing hex 30,31. This is a key position since the road south from this point is a major road and advancement will be more rapid.

CHS version of WITP is still behaving well. I am watching the TF overflow error possibility and actively limiting TF's. I am rethinking the retirement of the S-boats since they have been very successful blockading Truk from Shortlands and Rabaul armed with their reliable MK10 torpedoes.

Next objectives are Makassar in the Dutch East Indies and Nauru in the Central Pacific.

Rangoon and Moulmein have fallen to Commonwealth forces. Remaining Japanese forces at Rangoon are surrounded. Except for some Japanese units backed up against the river south of Taung Gyi, Burma essentially is back in British control. The Japanese units near Taung Gyi will soon be eliminated.

ANZAC forces have nearly finished loading for the invasion of Makassar. Supporting will be 2 CV's and a CVL + BB's and CA's. US forces are gathering at their loading assembly base at Abemama for the invasion of Nauru. They will be supported by 3 CV's and 3 CVE's as well as BB's and CA's.

Land-based Wildcats have all been upgraded to Corsairs. In 4 days, P-47C Thunderbolts will become available. Allied air power is becoming insurmountable. Even China is fast acquiring P-40N's. Oscars and Sonias are getting pretty badly beat up in China. Additionally, unescorted or poorly escorted Bettys are easy fodder for Allied fighters and do little damage to ships which have a robust CAP.

Commonwealth forces continue to advance in Burma. Tavoy has fallen to the Allies. Commonwealth forces are pressing the retreating Japanese all across the Burma front. The Japanese are reacting with shock attacks at unfavorable odds. their losses are large.

Nauru has fallen to invading US troops. Makin has been occupied by the US. The US is targeting Jaliut for the next invasion prior to the major invasion of Kwajalein.

Makassar in the Dutch East Indies has fallen to ABDA troops. Kendari is the next invasion target here.

The Essex is deploying from the Panama Canal to Noumea and then to Rabaul which is Headquarters for the SW Pacific/S Pacific fleet. This will put 2 CV's and 2 CVL's at Rabaul.

3 CV's are at Canton Island.

The British have 2 CV's and the Hermes operating in the Java Sea. They will be joined by a 3rd CV which caught a Japanese torpedo when transiting from Rabaul. Damage was moderate and it is drydock at Darwin.

The Japanese did not sortie to defend either Tarawa or Nauru.

The Japanese are in a world of hurt!

Commonwealth forces have captured Bankok. Line stands at Tavoy-Bankok-Pisanuloke. Commonwealth forces are resting and refitting. Japanese forces opposing them are not strong. British naval forces are repositiong to Rangoon. CV Formidable is in SE Asia. Victorous has been withdrawn. British carrier forces have been updated with seafires, hellcats and corsairs. Most carrier torpedo bombers are barracudas with one squadron of avengers.

Dutch East Indies ABDA forces have captured and cleared Makassar and Kendari. Aussie forces landed at Pomala and attacked Kendari overland. Covering naval forces included Illustrious, Indomitable and Hermes. The Hermes has been sent to bolster the SE Asia naval force and is enroute. The Japanese have established very strong forces at Manado and Palembang. The Japanese sortied a carrier task force of the Soryu, a CVL and escorted by a DD and a DE. They sortied from Manado. It is believed that they were the forerunner to an invasion of Sorong. They were opposed by a British TF which included 2 CV's and the Hermes as well as strong land-based air. It was a disaster for the Japanese. The Soryu is confirmed sunk. The CVL was pounded and likely sunk -- so far unconfirmed. The DD and DE also went down. The carriers never got a plane off the deck. There was no invasion. This was a foolish move on the part of the Japanese. The Japanese navy has very few carriers left. In total they are down 6 CV's and 3 - 4 CVL's. Allies have lost 2 CV's and 1 CVE.

In the Central Pacific, the US has advanced to Jaluit and Wotje. The battle for Wotje was badly managed by the US. Poorly planned, uncoordinated and the defending forces were underestimated. Finally secured but losses were heavy. The Long Island is even now limping back to Pearl. Kwajalein is the next objective and intelligence says it is well defended. Execution of the invasion will have to be better this time or a defeat could result. Troops are resting and refitting for the forthcoming assault on Kwajalein. The US will commit 6 divisions to the invasion. Also at least 4 CV's, 4 CVL's and 5 CVE's.

Total allied carrier forces are 9 CV's, 8 CVL's and 6 CVE's.

China is still quiet. Burma road is open. Chinese air force is upgraded to P40N's.

The CHS version of WITP is behaving well. I have not encountered the TF overflow problem or the pilot bug yet.

Status: offline 		I have been preoccupied with the establishment of a second home in the Seattle area (I live in the Phoenix, AZ area) and have not been playing witp consistently. However, the game has still progressed slowly. Following is the update:

Jan 1, 1944

The US has taken the Marshall's and is currently preparing to invade Ponape. US naval power is overwhelming. The Japanese based some heavy surface units in Ponape which were severely hammered by US carrier and land-based air. The remains of their carrier forces are nowhere to be seen.

The commonwealth forces have progressed through Siam into Malaya. Singora and Alor Star are in commonwealth hands and they are currently attacking Georgetown. The capture of Georgetown will provide a port for sea transfer of supplies and troops for the march to Singapore.

The Yorktown and Wasp (sunk off Rabaul due to Halsey's recklessness) have reconstituted and have been joined by the Intrepid. The allies now have 12 fleet carriers, 18 CVE's and 11 CV's active.

The Australians have captured Balikpapan and Samarinda as well as Makassar and Kendari. They are currently staging forces at Teloekbetoeng for an overland drive on Palambang.

China remains quiet except for air engagements. China has upgraded their air forces and trained up their pilots so that the Japanese air force is taking higher losses than the Chinese.

In general, the CHS version is playing well. One bug which has occurred is the Amphib Force units won't load for transport. Both the V Amphib Force and the VII Amphib Force have this problem. There must be some edit to the scenario for these units needed but I haven't determined what so far.

Did you try to load them on one or more AGCs? I don't think that it specifically says so in the manual but it might be that only those ships can carry those HQs. To get the amphibious bonus you definitely need to use them according to the manual.

Guam, Tinian & Saipan have fallen to the U.S. Some Japanese soldiers still hold out on Saipan. Palembang has also fallen.

ABDA forces have driven to the outskirts of Singapore. They have twice been repulsed by Japanese forces in Singapore and are resting and reinforcing in Jahore Baru.

The Japanese have lost 6 CV's and 4 CVL's. No Kamikazes have appeared yet.

B29's are beginning strategic bombing of the Japanese home islands.

Comments on game play: Haven't hit dreaded pilot bug yet. LCI(G)'s don't work (at least not very often - had one that appeared to have fired rockets). Otherwise game functioning OK.
