In another topic somewhere on these forums someone mentioned the British BV which got me thinking about it and how we used to react when it didn't work, over the xmas period I was having a drink (or two ) with some old army friends and we got talking about this game and one topic that came up was the 1 piece of kit that all mechanized & armoured units considered essential to winning a war

The Boiling Vessel: a simple piece of kit that has been around since 1945(ish), it connected into the vehicles electrical system to work much like a kettle in boiling water (we learnt not to boil anything other than water in them)

Question is: what piece of kit did you consider essential to winning a war

My trusty racing spoon, complete with 4 layers of Harry Black wrapped around the handle, tied to my smock by a suitable length of para cord. Cleaned with a lick and a rub on the sleeve.

This was the war winner when I was in the US Army, the P-38 can opener. Low tech and very essential if you wanted to eat your C-rations

My original P-38, I was issued in basic training, is still on my key chain. Every so often someone will see it and borrow my keys to go show someone what a P-38 looks like and how it works.

Good Hunting.

I've since lost mine, but for the longest time I always kept it on my person. It was more than a simple can opener, it was also a tool and could be used to tighten or loosen most slotted screws or pry a stubborn lid. Best inexpensive and uncomplicated piece of multi-role military hardware ever issued to the U.S. dogface.
