Air losses seem pretty low for the IJAAF. Has he been hiding his Oscars from you?

IJN losses seem more typical. Certainly nothing that is going to be putting a damper on his operations just yet.

Allied high command asks Oscars what are those?

Yes, I have really only seen them on sweeps in Singapore and the Philippines after he gained control of the air. His Oscars and Two Unrestricted Infantry Divisions are still MIA and it makes me nervous......

Seems the CA Nachi is raiding the West Coast. He did get two tankers . I have some DD's in the area that will pursue him but I think I can get his replenishment task force. Other than a bombardment at Singapore who's forts went back to LVL 3 not much going on this turn.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
None.

BB Mississippi

I so wish I had the Long Lance....all this from one torpedo. Will make for Alameda's 180 Size Repair Yard. Still worth it for one sunk AO and one more that has to be on the bottom (sunk/scuttled). If nothing else it should teach him that the area from Peal to the Line Islands is mine unless the KB is present. Even with the KB in the area I still control the area from Palmyra to Fanning as my 125 land bases fighters are more than enough to with the USN 1st Bat Div and 23 PTs to control the islands themselves.

The Mississippi will be replaced by the Idaho and the bombardment of Christmas Island will resume.

18 Feb 42 - 19 Feb 42 Executive Summary

Other than the bombardment of Palembang nothing really of note this turn. The hope is to draw more "stuff" to the area to make him run me off. The KB/Mini-KB or some part of that seems to be in Rabaul. Bombardment force in route to Christmas Island for the next round. After two or three more wackes I will pull this back for some minor repairs and rest. I will keep rotating in DDs and CLs to grind the XP as much as possible

Question: Saratoga Upgrade

If I am understanding the upgrade requirments correcly, I can upgrade the Saratoga at Melbourne in Austria as this has a level 10 Repair Yard? Just want to make sure before I mess up my planning....

I will of course fly the airplanes off just in case the KB shows up for the 21 days she is in the yard.

Yes - Saratoga does not have to enter the drydock for this upgrade, it just needs the shops and cranes of a level 10 shipyard.
Are you sure KB is not going to come visiting during the 21 day refit?
Many IJ players make the Great Australian Circle Tour after their landings in the DEI and NG are completed.

Herro Boys, Perth Peony here with music to sooth your spirits and words to depress your morale.
But first, the Allied High Command is pleased to announce another great victory near Palembang, with the sinking of 2 Carriers, a Battleship, and numerous
Cruisers and Destroyers.

No, not sure as its still a bit out but I don't think he is going to make that long swing around OZ. He still needs to get Java, Timor and he has so little of the area around Rabaul. My thoughts were to rearrange all of three three carrier taffys so that all of the ships that needed upgrade went with the Saratoga and went in on 3.1.42 as long as I was pretty certain that the KB was too busy elsewhere. My recon and Intel shows right now that the KB is in Rabaul and Truck ready to support the next push and taking on replacement places.

Its funny how Tokyo Rose and really pour salt in the wounds when she's right or simply make you laugh when I hear that after the battle. I sure AirGriff was pulling his hair out after this battle as he new the next part was a bombardment of the AF in Palembang. It did not get as much as I would of liked but it will keep him on his toes....

Singapore

Seems that the end is nearing as the Forts again are drooped to Level 2 and the attack goes in at 1:2. We are still giving far better than we are taking but I can't imagine we will last more then another fortnight. The more I look at the units he has (only one fully combined Division) the more I suspect he was thinking that I would Sir Robin the hex. While I was not able to run enough supply to the base, I am still at 21K which should last me as long as I expect to hold.

KB & Mini-KB and What to Do

Intel still supports the KB and possibly the Mini-KB are at Rabaul. This is 26 Hexes from Lugaville or with the two day a turn strike window . After thinking about it for a while this still does not change the need to land to either hold the base or delay him longer. The 8th Mar Reg and one US Army Art Bat are two days out from starting to land. There is an Aus AT Reg in route as well that is three days out. We are also looking at sending in a base force and construction regiment from Pago Pago assuming we get ashore. The plan is to get the base at Lugaville to a Level 1 airfield to have some fighter cover just as soon as the base force can land. Delay Delay Delay.......

The rest of the Americal Infantry Division and lots of other shinny bits arrive in two days. These units will either be sent to Lugaville or Noumea depending resistance.

24 Feb 42 - 28 Feb 42 Executive Summary

Both the Mini-KB and KB seem to be at sea and doing some damage to my forces from Lugaville to Fiji , while not unexpected not really a welcome event. Clark Field had been bombarded for the last six days but no ground attacks as of yet. Two deliberate land attacks at Singapore go well for me and seems I will hold this hex for at least another fortnight.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
None.

Japan Conquerors the Following Bases:

Singapore

The forts managed to get back to Level 3 just in time for the first deliberate attack to drop them back to Level 1 (its now back up to Level 2 & 49% to Level 3). Unfortunately for AirGriff the first attack went well for him but at 1:1 odds so he attacked the second day-- as any attack better then 1:2 odds will continue and we are using two day turns.

The second day went very well for me, supplies down to 18k.

Mini-KB
The Mini-KB hit my taffy unloading the 8th Marine Inf Regiment at Lugnaville. Not too much damage the the LCU as it was almost done unloading but I did lose some xAPs. There were also some air attacks by the Mini-KB at Noumea that cost me an AM but cost him far from in DBs and Pilots so I feel I came out ahead there.

The Mini-KB is currently 23 Hexes from the 3 CV Taffy's. These Taffy's are in Auckland and are now moving towards Suva/Pago Pago and Fighter cover. If we interpret the Mini-KB great, if not oh well. The KB is 21 hexes from the Mini-KB and southwest of Guadalcanal, and 42 hexes from Auckland. I plane on keeping this buffer as large as possible, if I need to I will fall all the way back to Pago Pago and the 160 Fighters and 33 DBs for protection. I will fight under this LBA but not in the Open.

KB
Seems a little light on Fighters but my Intel could also be very off. The other task force seems to be a replenishment task force for the KB/Mini-KB. As of yet I don't see any amphibious task forces in the area.

I have 52 Fighters at Noumera, 81 Fighters in Fiji, 59 Fighters in Samoa and 159 at Pago Pago. I have 33 DBs and 72 LBs to use as well in Pago Pago. I should be able to bleed him if he wants to fight for the air in this area.

Damage from the Mini-KB Raid so Far
While not happy with the loss of the xAPs at least now we should be able to work to get the airfield to level 1 at Luganville and then I can bring in some air units and maybe hold the island. If not then at least the speed bump slows him down. The Air to Air Exchange again went in my favor.

01 Mar 42 - 06 Mar 42 Executive Summary

Well it seems the allies made their first real deployment mistake of the game. We lost Clark Field in the first attack (at six to one odds). While it would have made no difference Allied High Command forgot to recombine some of the divisions on the hex that were resting. Not a huge error but an error none the less. His forces has sill not moved into Bataan as of yet and Singapore is still bombarded.

I have deciced to send two single one ship transport convoys to Singapore. One holds 1000 tons of supply from Java and the other from Ceylon holds 1750 tongs of supply as supplies are now down to 14K and it seems I can hold for a while as the forts are back up to level 3.

He has started the landings at La Foa to take New Caledonia. I have two very good Aus Infantry Battalion from the 8th Division there, alone with an Aus Light AA Reg, RAN Base Force, FF Inf Detachment and Level 3 Forts. There has been some air battles to sink AMs and AMc in the area with my land bases fighter force.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
Amphibious Assault at La Foa (114,159)

Japan Conquerors the Following Bases:
Japanese forces CAPTURE Clark Field !!!
Salamaua
Waigeo
Saidor
Nadzab

KB - Engage Enemy Fleet
The order has been given to move to engage the enemy fleet off of Noumea. If my Intel is correct it is 53 F & 129 DB/TB vs 122 F // 108 DBs // 45 TBs. There are also 59 Land Based Fighters at Noumera that may or may not matter.

Not 100% sure this is a good idea but it has been the plan from day one to contest anything inside the perimeter defined as the defensive area. He has most of the 21st Infantry Division landed and I can only assume moving south to take the base. I have the Americal Division is Brisbane ready to load and move in assuming I can get a window to offload or even a partial window.

Fleet Moving to Point "A".

British Fleet - "Servet Regem Deus"
Given that the KB and Mini-KB are fixed. We will use the British to run a quick carrier raid and BB bombardment. After this the one British CV will fall back to Perth and start making its way to form the allied Death Start for the retaking of Christmas Island in May.

Well, we had our carrier battle of doom and it was not too bad for me. I am going to assume I will lose the enterprise but I hope at least one of his CV's will also go to the bottom. We also may have a BB battle in off of Java this coming turn with the British CV also comoing into play as a follow-on.

None.

Japan Conquerors the Following Bases:
Tassafaronga
Kolaka

Akagi is a tough old ship. I've taken a couple 1000lb bombs and only had 3 pts of flood damage. Zuikaku is probably in danger due to the ammo explosions, and the amount of bomb hits. It is much more fragile than Akagi in my opinion.

Aftermath at New Caledonia

The plan is for the the two undamaged CV Taffy's to move from Point B to Point A. Point A will be held by the surface forces left over from the Enterprise Taffy. After two more days of combat all the carriers will withdraw for more fuel and ammo to Suva or Pago Pago.

The Enterprise Air units that were forces to land at Noumera will also continue to fight on, and defend their carrier if she makes port here and does not sink. One US Army Inf Battalion is now in route from Pago Pago along with 1/3 of the Americal Division form Brisbane to help hold the base in the face of whatever else has landed with this 21st Infantry division.

The Australian Surface forces will close in from the north at Koumac in 4 -5 five days from Townsville. Force Z still headed by the Repulse will be in Brisbane in two days to refuel (coming from Perth) and will move out to the area from there.

The questions of the day are:

1) Did I win or lose?
2) Did his two CV's go down?
3) Will the Enterprise survive?
4) Am I stupid for sticking around to try and smash the landing force?
