Allies 1st Impulse:

Ground Strikes:
Quite a number of ground strikes for the Allies this impulse.

In Russia, ground strikes are attempted on both Rundstedt and Rommel HQs, and the Armor stack that brokethrough across the Dnieper and threatens Sevastapol. The Soviets also use their ARTY to shell the Guderian HQ.

In France, the CW ground strikes the closest German unit to Brest, the Kesselring HQ, and another German unit, all out of fighter range.

In Spain, the US ground strikes Von Bock. The Allies are trying to hit HQs as that will help them establish a beachhead if the Axis cannot moves HQs to the landing area.

Germany intercepts the attack on Rommel, but not the one on Rundstedt, willing to take their chances with the forest hex halving the Russian bomber.

Italy intercepts the attack on the breakthrough hex...

Over Rommel, its a straight up fight with 0/0 odds...

1st round, Axis rolls a 12, clearing the Soviet bomber. Soviets roll a 8, aborting the German fighter. The Allied attack will go through.

Allies 1st Impulse:

Ground Strikes (continued):
In Southern Ukraine, an Italian FTR attempts to stop a Russian bomber. Odds are +1/-1 in Axis favor.

1st round, Axis rolls a 5, destroying the Soviet bomber. Russia rolls a 17, returning the favor, killing the Italian fighter.

Not as good as the Allies would hope, all around. Rundstedt was hit though, so they have that at least.

Hmmmm...with those poor results from air strikes, it might be worth it for the Allied High Command to rethink their plans.

Perhaps but I think that the Axis can't cover every possible avenue. And if they do the allies could always just invade Portugal

Axis 2nd Impulse:

Actions:
Germany - Land
Italy - Land
Japan - Land

Japan is not sure it wants to lose 3 FTRs at Rabaul and may transfer some out

Rail Moves:
Germany moves two garrison units to Gibraltar area to allow the 9-4 INF to move north.

Land Moves:
Here's the situation in France after the Axis moves. The Allies will have to decide where to land based on this.

After moves in Russia here is how it looks in the south. The Russian fleet has left Sevastapol after being overrun. The Red factory city is in German hands. Mannstein is considering an attack on Kerch. We will see.

Axis 2nd Impulse:

Land Moves (continued):
Near Moscow, the Axis maneuvers to fill up the gaps between them and the Soviets. The Soviets actually did some pretty effective blocking in short notice.

Most likely the top tier German units will attack the alone disrupted 5-4 MOT and Rommel may give a shot at the hex he is adjacent to, probably not. We will see after I get back from work.

THIS IS BEFORE LAND DECLARATIONS

Hi Mark,

I have been keeping an eye on your AAR as well.

How effective in your opinion has the Soviet air force been so far in these early Barbarossa impulses?

Having never made it this far in the game, my initial idea is to hold the Soviet air force far neough behind the front, out of reach of the Luftwaffe and overrunning ground troops. The long range bombers being the exception. I am thinking of keeping them in just enough range to strike if the German interceptors can not reach them on a strike. This may change, as time goes on in my campaign.

Thanks.

I think I've learned that I needed to keep the shorter range air way further back. I've had too many overrun by the advancing Germans.

Axis 2nd Impulse:

Land Combat:
A total of 4 attacks this impulse, 2 in Russia, 1 in Ukraine, and 1 in Siberia (Vladivostok area)

The 1st, with most chance of failure, is the attack on a stack of Russian defenders outside of Vladivostok. From 5 hexsides the Japanese attack and get a +7.3333 modifier. About 55% this attack works. USSR chooses an Assault.

Japan doesn't get the fractional, but rolls a 14, for 21 overall. Half the Japanese forces are disorganized, and USSR takes 1 loss + shattered. Since they are surrounded, all the Soviet units are destroyed.

Axis 2nd Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
The next attack is for Kerch, on the edge of Crimea. This lone Soviet unit got railed here last impulse to try and block Mannstein from driving into the Caucasus region. With heavy armored units, and some ground support from an Italian bomber, Germany is able to get a +10.2 modifier on the blitz table.

Germany doesn't get the fractional, but rolls a 12, for 22 overall. Results in a breakthrough. This area is completely unprepared for an Axis presence and there are even two bombers disorganized on the ground about to be overrun if the Russians dont put a defender in that hex..

Axis 2nd Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
The 3rd and 4th attacks are against two disrupted units sitting on the Axis side of the Soviet defensive river line. In the first of these, against a 7-4 MOT, the modifier is at a hefty +10.3 on the blitz table.

Rolling a 16 wins pretty much anytime with any modifier, but yeah, this is a big BOOM.

Thanks! They're doing well definitely. Unfortunately, they're about to lose Rabaul I think. US fleet is super strong right now. s
