Hi guys - I'm starting a DBB 28-C PBEM as Japan and am looking for some free advice on how my stock game plan should/must vary because of the shipping restrictions, etc. I've quickly looked the DBB page and have a rough idea of what's different than stock, so what I'm curious about is how these changes impact game play for a Japanese player.

For example, in my stock games as Japan, I turn off almost all Merchant Shipyards and xAK production to save HI. Given the reduced shipping capacities, would this be suicide in DBB? Any pointers, hints, general advice or jokes are welcome.

I have only reached April 1942 so far but a few thoughts.

There still seems a sufficiency of shipping so that most of it is left sitting idle.

You need more ships for the same lift so port capacity matters a little more and slows down resource transfers. However, I think tankers are unchanged.

Early on I noticed a little problem getting enough supply ashore on amphibious assaults and had to slip a few extra ships in.

The small ship conversion options are completely different. In particular, only the To'su converts to ACM. The Kujira is a very efficient small xAKL. The Ku'dai are tiny fuel hogs and I'm not sure what use they are. The Kiso PB range is less than in stock, all of the PB options have issues.

We are in Nov 43 in our game. A couple of thoughts:

1) Figure out where you want air support and make sure you have enough there. You will be lacking pretty much everywhere so prioritize.
2) Open the land route in China. This helps reduce fuel consumption.
3) Stacking limits add a lot of flavor and challenge to the game. Early on, when the Allies want to stone wall you they can stack near the limits and it is tough to break through. The good news is this works well both ways. We will see how it works with 44 and 45 Allied fire power. I would not play again without stacking limits.
4) The ship load changes are really not that big a deal. You just have to plan ahead and add a few more ships then you would normally.
6) The flak changes work as well. I think it is nicely modeled so far.
7) The bomb damage to shipping is reduced so it takes more to sink even AKs.
8) Most of all remember it is a game and have fun!

In which way ? More plane shot down or less ? From what I've seen strafing don't avoid flak

In general, flak is more effective but not over the top. If you fly at 6k, you will suffer a lot of damage. If you fly higher, it is not as bad. You might look at the Rumble in the Southwest AAR. I think witpqs talks about the difference. I know in our email exchanges, we talked about the flak over Truk being especially painful for the Allies trying to use B-25s to strafe. I did not shot many of them down but there was a lot of damaged aircraft flying back. It seemed right to both of us.
