The closest the Germans came was Novorossiysk up the coast about 285 KM.

Status: offline 		Having looked through several sources...it appears the answer is "no". From what I read the last time Sochi saw any type of conflict was during the Russian Civil War before World War 2. It is quite far down the coast towards Turkey and would not have had any strategic value by the looks of it.

And it was perfect because while convalescing, instead of sitting round playing endless games of chess, the wounded soldiers were able to partake of a relaxing run down the Luge course.
