Dear Mr. Ross Moorhouse,

Please do not rush Korsun pocket out like Hearts of Iron.
I am more than willing to wait and be patient for a quality game, than a piece of garbage that destroys integrity.
Thank you.

Don't worry about the quality of this game. Although as beta tester I can't say much I can say that this game is very stable, is great fun and looks good. What more could you ask for?

Checking out Brubackers AAR should allay any concerns you have!

Matthew,

It does indeed sound like a very stable and fun game. I've been expecting this game since August 2002 but I've taken the delays with ease since I know I'll get a much better product. This is not very common these days in the industry so a big thanks to SSG/Matrix and to you, the beta testers.

Dan

SSG are known for writing very stable code and making "complete" games.

But you are right, a big thank you should go to MatrixGames for now (edit: I meant NOT) rushing to release the game. Often many of the bugs found in todays games are a direct result of the publisher putting pressure on the developers to hand the game over for release.

Matrix is would seem are as committed to a quality product as SSG are.. and I thank them as the publisher for that - and not pushing to get it released "too early".

I'm sure he meant "not" instead of "now" :-)

I'm completely in favor of getting a game right and as bug free as possible before release, but the continual delays in THIS game have gotten to the point of ridiculousness. I can understand being wrong about the release date when the game is six months or more away (e.g. the announced release date for Korsun Pocket in mid-2001 was March-April 2002) because much of the coding remains to be done and plenty of unexpected issues can crop up. But, this game has been 'six weeks away' for six months now. Since August I've seen October, November, January, February, and now, March as release dates. How come it never gets any closer to being done?

Really? For that to be true the game will have to go gold within the next couple of weeks or so. If you are really that close, you should KNOW it will be done, not HOPING. The continual delays in release of this game are troubling, almost as troubling as the fact that no one will answer questions about the editor.

I can well understand your frustration. We have all been waiting too long for this game. All can do is tell you that the build we are currently testing is very stable, and has more features included than any of us testers expected. The KP scenario we are playing is very well balanced and about as exciting as a wargame can get.

I think that in many of these projects the enthusiasm of the developers and their genuine desire to get the game finished as soon as possible leads them to underestimate the time required to finish. Its not a deliberate attempt to annoy - just expectations getting ahead of reality. I really do think that you will feel it has been worth the wait when you see the game.

I can't talk about the editor yet, but there is one included and perhaps Ross could tell you a bit more about it.

Will we be able to create completely new maps with the scenario editor? I think that would be great, because I feel this is one of the nicest game systems around.

YES - each scenario has it's own terrain graphics file that is in BMP file format. You can also modify the crt tables as well as terrain data cost for supply trucks, leg, horse, wheel and tank. You also define AI groups etc...KP editor is very powerful.

Why would the game have to go gold in order to take orders?

I believe it used to be (still is?) Matrix policy not to accept orders for a game until it had gone gold. Besides, why would you want to? If I had paid for this game back in August, I would be pretty annoyed by now.

Good point. I wasnt aware that was a policy, but it does make sense.
