"Three damaged B-17s, one "D" model and two "E" models, were rebuilt to flying status by Japanese technicians and mechanics; the parts used were stripped from captured B-17 wrecks in both the Philippines and the Netherlands East Indies. The three bombers, containing captured top secret Norden Bombsights, were then flown to Japan where they underwent extensive technical evaluation by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force's Air Technical Research Laboratory (Koku Gijutsu Kenkyujo). The "D" model was later deemed an obsolete design and the two "E" models were used to develop B-17 air combat counter-tactics; they were also used as enemy aircraft in several Japanese propaganda films. No traces of these captured Flying Fortresses were found in Japan by Allied occupation forces following the war; they were assumed scrapped late in the war for their vital war materials"

The Japanese captured some P-40s and there are some stories one was used operationally in Burma. There is also the story of the USS Stewart which was captured by the IJN and operated as an escort ship.

Here are all three.

The Japanese also got a hold of a few Hurricanes at Palembang.

The hurricanes were flown by the 64th Sentai and eventually brought to Chang Mai where they were nailed on the ground by the AVG. They planned to use them in 'werewolf' missions against RAF airfields.

Think they had some Dutch Hawks and maybe a Buffalo or two.

That what i lacked in game - rly small chance to capture enemy ship(s) when port fall to my (or eenmyies) hands.

I bet they got envious about the B-17, specially if one compare it to the feeble planes they were flying

I suspect the Japanese thought the B-17 was overkill. Their doctrine sacrificed everything for offensive capability and they looked down on other doctrines. The B-17 sacrificed a lot of potential offensive capability (range and payload) to have a strong defensive ability. They started rethinking this later when it became obvious that the better defensive capabilities of American aircraft and major efforts put into preserving air crews paid off when the war moved into 1943 and later.
