May 1-5, 1943

So, the allies in India have reached the plains of Dacca, pretty close to my Dimampur line. I need to hold here untill i get to Paoshan, while the enemy has started to sweep with P-38s my advanced air bases, getting a solid 2-1 in his favour. I know this positionof mine ins't strong, but hopefully i won't be forced to hold on here for too long. I have a plan for Paoshang pocket, now defended by 40,000 allies (chinese and british) sitting in a perimeter of 2 hexes and defended by an heavy CAP of 90 fighters.
Over Chungking is taking place a war of attrition, with the japanese taking twice the losses of the enemies. Don't know if i will ever be able to reduce his CAP...

This, for example, is what happened on the 3rd of May...

Chungking - Can you add in some LRCAP to supplement your sweeps?? From your examples you are also losing the numbers game each time. As Allies I try to get more planes over base for each air phase.

Mili - If you have some fuel there, can you use your I-boats to drop off some mini-subs?? Just a TT hit or two on a CA would help slow him down.

Micheal, i've tried to LRCAP and i tried to have more groups, but i only have 4 groups of Tojos available. The rest is crap. I've tried to use all four of them at the same time and didn't work. I tried to alternate them and didn't work.
Today i tried to add KI-43 IIIa and A6M5c in the mix...and the results were even worse (43 to 5 in his favour)...
He added anther hellcats group in the mix, coming from the CVs...they simply spanked my butt out of the blue.

The good news come from Paoshan. The chinese army is pushed back into the city which is now overstacked. I'll shock attack tomorrow with a good guards division and then i'll switch in the tank divisions... should work.

For Chungking the plan needs to be changed.

The allies land at Buka, behind our fortresses at Bouganville... that's a problem, obviously

B17s started to visit Horn Island...

Allied fighters are massing at Geralton....

Enemies everywhere around me....

God be good with us

I am sure you already know this but just in case. Nicola, to get number advantage over sky during your sweep you need set fast a/c (cruise speed) to LRCAP at max alt. Sweep fighters should be the ones with lower cruise speed(in your case A6M5), you want LRCAP be already in hex when sweepers will arrive. From my experience sometimes it is good to set sweep 5k lower than LRCAP. Defenders are always are trying to get over incoming raid, this should provide "dive" opportunity for yours LRCAP flaying higher.

PS:
I had a lot of problems and I lost many P-47 to N1K1-J in my game vs Spidery, until I have started using this tactic. My P-47 most of case are doing as high cover for sweeping F6F now. Well it works for me, maybe it will work for you either.

Thanks Tom!
I will try that tactic i didn't know!

Had to stop at Chungking now. A couple of days of rest and recon says he has brought there already 130 fighters! Gosh!

At the same time, the allies are attacking the Marshalls... a surprise paradrop attack at Majuro... repulsed!

We shock at Paoshan, crossing the river... he must be realy overstacking there now...forts don't go down, but losses on my side are minimal...

Buka invasion is repulsed...for the moment...

Sorry for the lack of updates...a bad flu struk in right when i was overwhelmed with work...oh well

May 8-11, 1943

Things don't look good.

Over Chungking we had to stop any flight. Too many losses. Nowhere near close to achieve the air superiority.
We pushed the chinese army back into Paoshan, forcing them to overstack. I thought this would cause the enemy's resitance to collapse...wrong. For some reason he's able to keep his supplies and even flying a massive CAP over the city...tried to sweep... no joy. 3-1 in his favour.
Shock attack... no joy.
Deliberate attack... a 1-83 odds in his favour

At the very same time, he landed at Mili.
Massive BB bombardments.
Massive Air bombings.
The Marines landed. Our CD guns were detroyed.
Not a single sub shot...2 subs lost.
Betties escorted by Zeros flew. None but 3 got back. 67 planes lost. No hits.
The Marines shock attacked and achieved immediately a 1-1, downing the forts to 2...
The next day Tanaka with his cruiser division attacked. Found empty waves.
3 DDs remained in the middle of the ocean when the air phase begun. All sunk by SDBs from Tarawa.

The allies sent 30 B17s over Horn Island, with F4F4s on LRCAP. I moved 40 A6M5s there on CAP, hoping to ambush them. no joy. The Wildcats performed very well and shot down 15 of my fighters. Only 2 B17s downed.

The grip on this war is slipping from my hands. Don't seem to be able to do anything that hurts him.

Allies tanks are approaching our Dimampur defensive line....and Paoshan is still holding strong... DAMN!

Following a friend's advice, I took 2000mg of vitamin C three times per day. It knocked out the cold very quickly. Since I have high blood pressure I could not take any of the over the counter (OTC) medications as most raise my blood pressure.

Back to the war....I don't know what you are going to do when the P-47s arrive in July.

Way to cheer him up.

At least they aren't that long legged yet....but he will do what every other Japanese players does. Avoid them or die.

I couldn't stay at home resting, so i had to go to the office and to the Court...but i'm getting already better, taking some vitamis and paracetamol (sp!?).
It wasn't the temperature...it was the vomit who really killed me the other day!

Back to the war...

Yes, P47s will be a nightmare, i know. At least in june i'll be getting the KI-84a that will be available for four sentais...not that bad...even if obviously i will have to counter the P-47 with numbers...and in PDU OFF i won't have superior numbers of good planes.
His Hellcats are already outclassing my KI-44 IIc, which is the best plane i have right now. The only frame which is superior is the N1K1, but i only have one tiny sentai that can be equipped with this beauty...Even the KI-84a will be present at max with 150 planes on the map...not enough to really change the balance of the air war... The Navy can't compete: the A6M8 or the A6M5c cannot stand against the Hellcat nor the P-40Ks as i have discovered at Chungking.

Willbe tough

Gotta simply hold on i guess and buy time...

Well, you should remember that with P-47 he will meet exactly the same problem like you in case of N1K1.
Half a/c will arrive in low experience FG on east cost. Production will allow him to upgrade only 1 - 2 FG until end of year.

And hold on while finding a way not to waste your best pilots. Right now the n°1 priority is finishing that bit of China. All the rest is secondary.

So if he is using carrier based Hellcat squadrons in China it probably means he has no plans for a carrier battle in the near future. Is there anything you can do with the KB that would cause trouble because it doesn't seem he is serious about opposing it right now

I think you also pissed out several grams of vitamin C per day also . http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/vitamin-c/faq-20058030

I forget if Obvert's lost any CVs thus far, but it's also entirely possible that he's staffing his CVs with other units. At this point, several VF units have arrived that aren't attached to carriers or are on CVEs, and can be resized on the fleet CVs. It takes a bit of micro management, but it can be done to the Allied player's advantage (not having to wait for 1944 to get 40-plane fighter units, for example).

Well, you should remember that with P-47 he will meet exactly the same problem like you in case of N1K1.
Half a/c will arrive in low experience FG on east cost. Production will allow him to upgrade only 1 - 2 FG until end of year.

He can easily swap out pilots, though.

IIRC those first 3 units of the P-47D2 arrive with 55 Exp/55 Air skill pilots. Which is average but not great... by the time they reach the front lines, they could be up to 60 Exp/70 Air with ease. I think they also have 50s Defense skill, so not too much work to get that to 60+ either.

Ha,ha, after two sweeps they will be 70+! Jugs pilots don't die, unless they are like in the 20's in air to air skill and experience.

I bet they would if they were set down low... but maybe not.

There are three types of pilots: Old pilots, bold pilots and Jug pilots.

Sorry again for thelack of updates. Really tough days at work. Yesterday i entered at office at 8:15 am and exited at 10:30 pm...

May 12-16 1943

Some bad news: Mili is about to fall. I tried to ambush his bombing runs and managed to sink a CA and 2 or 3 DDs with Tanaka's cruiser division. Tanaka got surprised first by a fletcher division, but managed to sink 2 DDs with no losses, then got suprised again by a strong enemy cruiser group (3 CAs and 1 CL) but got back and managed to sink a CA and damaging 2 more for no losses.
However the allies simply have too much...the following day another fresh cruiser squadron bombed the place inflicting 500 casualities. The air space over mili is his and we cannot really fight back. Once Mili falls, the Marshalls are doomed.

Some good news: at Paoshan we managed to drop the enemy forts down to 1, suffering light losses. I don't understand how he can keep it supplied, but he seems to be able to do so without problems, even keeping a 100 fighters CAP over it...
We are trying to gain the air superiority...but the last air battle costed us 100 planes for 20 of his own....
He also seems to be bringing in reinforcements (an indian brigade!?), which seems weird cause he's already overstacked by 5/6,000 troops... seems like a strange move to me!

The allies are also bombing our Dimamphur line... need to hold on there untill Paoshan falls... and here i am risking cause if Paoshan holds, i may be forced to abbandon the whole Dimampur line...

Erik also moved some B25s to Wenchow and attacked Shangai, singking some precious AKs and AMCs... need to place some CAP over there... too few planes for me

Hope to be able to be more consistent with my upgrades next week

Just finished to watch the Australian Open final...what a match!

May 17, 1943

Yesterday we did our best to gain the air superiority over Paoshan and it seems we succeed in it. Many Hellcats and Corsairs caught on the ground and no more planes in the air today. We inflicted some good damage on the air base and i hope it is closed for business now. Mitikyna is bombed, heavily, by hordes of 4Es, while more 4Es keep on attacking Mandalay AF at night, causing not less than 20 planes destroyed on the ground

Mili is bombed again. No hopes of holding like i did at Nauru.

Port Moresby is bombed and a sub of mine spots a HUGE invasion TF east of Brisbane....Lae or PM are my best guesses.
My CVs are moving towards Darwin, dribling many allied subs chasing them.

In 14 days the KI-84a will enter into production, along with the KI-61c...cant wait for the former. Finally i will have a decent sweeper in decent numbers (4 full Sentais will be able to be equipped with it).

May 18-20, 1943

The allies are pushing hard on the Dimampur line. Hundreds of bombers are pounding my positions, while we are trying to fall back in good order. My time is running up. Can't hold there for long without risking of being flanked. Paoshan needs to be ours before Ledo gets into their bloody hands.
Two more attacks at Paoshan. 1-2 and the second, finally, 1-1 with forts down to 0. Should be ours within the week. The fields there are closed so he cannot send anymore supplies or reinforcements. But can't wait. Need to keep on pushing until it falls, then we will begin the long march in the jungle from Kalemyo towards Burma...

Horn Island is bombed heavily and so is Port Moresby. Invasion TFs spotted near Mylne Bay.

Another Unryu CV arrives...with B6N2...ARGH! those won't be in production until late 43...

His attention is clearly moving towards Horn Island and the Carpentaria Gulf... let's see if my strategy is correct-

Fischtafen and Umboi Island will soon be targeted...pretty sure about that.

Nicola,

I'm looking forward to seeing how well Horn Island defenders do behind level 6 forts. If I was Allies, I would have Portland Roads built up for my bombers and fighters along with multiple AE/AKEs to reload my old slow BBs that would be bombarding the base almost daily. The question is if those forts will keep the troops disruption levels below 40 and they remain combat effective. Good luck, sir!!

If I'm not mistaken, I have 5 RnD factories (with engine bonus since day 1 of the RnD factories production)

The Key, imho, is being able to keep the fighting force safe from bombings. The only way this can be done seems to pack the base with support units (AA, CD guns, Engineers and base forces). The naval bombardments will fire at them as long as they are active.

I have the following forces at Horn Island:

1 ID (31st)
1 Ind. Inf.Rgt
2 Naval guard units
1 CD unit
3 base forces (with some DP guns)
3 AA units
2 Ind Cbt Regiments

6 forts

And lots of supplies.

Obviously he will be able to get on it sooner or later, but the goal here is to make him waste time and energies if he wants to advance this way

Isn´t Horn a clear hex? Bad mojo when the 4Es come to visit. No need for BBs.

Forts help. But without them, you'll get blasted clean off the island just with bombers. I've done it.
