Has anyone bought this game or the previous 'Airland Battle'?

I have seen some youtube videos and it doesn't seem to be realistic in the same ilk as the games we know and love here, or the Graviteam Tactics games, is that accurate?

Nick, I haven't played any of the Wargame series but they get pretty favorable reviews on Steam. Red Dragon looks impressive.

I've played European Escalation and R.U.S.E. and found them to be kind of fun but they didn't hold my attention for long. There is certainly an attempt at realistic concepts, but the actual implementation is still abstract/gamey.

What the games really excel at is the operational level of strategy with lots of other players. It takes a significant amount of time to move forces around the large maps. Recon is extremely important. Artillery is powerful with long range, but is on-map, vulnerable, and mostly ineffective without spotters. Your units need to be resupplied and refueled, which involves moving trucks from supply bases to your units. Engagement ranges are pretty long, though I couldn't say for sure how accurate the modeling is.

The games are definitely made with multiplayer in mind. The single player has campaigns but they are ho-hum at best.

games ok, but no depth whatsoever, more arcade than war game for me, plays and looks good, but how long you will play it for is for me not worth the cost as it's not one of those types that you can play for ever and a day.

so like everything for me, looks aren't everything. give me depth anyday / replayability etc

Worth buying at half-price if you don't have WEE or ALB. Red Dragon finally has a "pause" type option for skirmish and you can design decks for the AI. But any CMx2 game blows it out of the water.

No mid skirmish save for either EE or ALB. I doubt RD has it and it's the main reason I will not buy it.

I have the previous one; Wargame: Air Land Battle. I like it for what it is when I am in the mood for some quick arcade style battles, but there are so many "trolls" (being polite) that play the game it almost makes it not worth playing Multiplayer unless you have a group of friends or at least people you know. I feel that this game was designed to draw in the younger crowd who care more about their "Win/Loss" ratio than actually having a good time and playing a well thought out battle.

An example being: Those players who spam all air units which have radar lock on missiles so they can take out the opposing player's land based AA and AAA vehicles, and then bomb you mercilessly before you can capture the zones or hold the ones you have at the start. It is annoying and makes for a lackluster battle. Not to mention in the chat room after the game is over having them type stupid garbage like "lol n00b" and other childish things.

That example and others that I won't get into convinced me not to buy the new Wargame: Red Dragon.

I like playing against people with intelligence, not the ones who want 1500 wins and 5 losses on their record so they feel superior on the internet.
