I'd love to help them out with icon work, but I'm afraid the days of pixel art are over, outside the Camo Workshop series. I have no idea how to use Blender, no clue as to how to render in 3D.

The days of pixel art are never over.

Some games play better in 3d others play better in 2d. It all depends on what type of games the developers wan't to make.

You could in theory make a new Steel Panthers game in 3D but that would be silly and if the 3d graphics were not state of the art it would also look silly.

Well I don't mean a 3D game, I mean rendering 3D graphics - see Panzer Corps. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong.

But thanks for your assurances

In my opinion the Panzer Corps pre-rendered 3D sprites look like toys. Feels like you have plastic models on a terrain map layed down on a kitchen table. SPWAW on the other hand looks more like a real battlefield from a top down perspective.

Planning on adding naval warfare to the next Steel Panthers game? Those ships look really nice. Now imagine a new game engine with 24bit colors, high resolution and a smooth zoom feature using those sprites.

They do look a bit off on the large-scale maps, but I like them. It's that kind of rendering I can't do. I've tried it, just don't have the time to make myself learn how. My 3D rendering is done in my beloved scale of 1/72 with real plastic

Yes, I have been farting around with a naval mod for a while, based in WinSPMBT. Using ATGMs for torpedos and GSR for radar, but keeping it WW2. This engine is not very well suited to naval warfare at all, but I still have fun with it. One of these days I'll get around to finishing it up enough for a release, but I have another project that is very near to being completely finished. Stay tuned for that one

Sorry to harsh your mellow.

From the first page ...........

Matrix / Slitherine - Opportunity Knocks - 5/10/2014 3:55:45 PM

Oh my oh my oh my.

I just realized that it was just over a year ago that I first opened this thread.

FWIW, The count right now is almost 5500 hits. I believe that it is one of the more active threads on the Matrix board for the past year. That's not bad at all.

So I guess the only thing I can do right now is call up my good friend Erik Rutins and ask .........

YO! ...............MATRIX!!!

S'UP?

cheerfully Yours

Hi guys, I did a lot of the graphics that are in the game now originally, what size tank do you want to see? I do the graphics for Campaign Series now, but miss the top down stuff, it was a ton of fun creating them, when we were competing with Camo workshop!!

Mr. Warhorse

That is too cool that you've offered help. Gracias Amigo.

As I've previously mentioned in these here *Pls Resurrect SPWaW* threads, I know Jack-Sh*t about PC graphics/pixels/resolutions - all of that visual magic. Nada. But I do know this ........ I'm easily impressed.

Sooooooooooo, I dunno. Off the top of my empty head - let's see, the original is 800x600 - can you crank out a T34 or a Sherman at double<-Edit....NO!, triple the resolution .... 2400x1800 - oooooh!!! at the smallest icon size if possible. Does that make any sense?

Would that work on a smaller/older monitor??????
I use a 1680x1050 resolution monitor whilst playing, would that high of a resolution work???? I know nothing about this stuff other than the game would be a smokin' hot box of fun with 21st century visuals.

If not, double the resolution would be tre cool also.

Thanks dude, looking forward to the results.

cheers

Yes some consept graphics of what a new SPWAW could look like would be interesting. Unfortunately I am not really that good at making graphics either.

I did however make a single huge image by combining 40 screenshots from a custom map. The finished high res image was 5037 x 2475 pixels. It was nice to look at with the windows Photo Viewer. I think it gave a good idea of how a new game would feel with smooth mouse wheel zoom and higher resolution.

Revamping it so that it can run smoothly on modern W8.1/10 systems with no extra user fixes or external programs would suffice, as far as I am concerned... + fixing any known bugs/problems, of course...

Would be great if they brought out an updated version / worthy successor. Used to play this game for hours and hours (if not days) at a time when I was a young lad. Dad introduced me to it. Think he might have even made a scenario or two.

To make a real Steel Panthers game you need a real Steel Panthers team and there are not many of those available.

Ha!
we who worked on the Enhanced mods, were always able to find plenty of great knowledgeable people and 'teams' to help work on the game, and in fact I think we improved it and made it somewhat better than the standard 'vanilla' game
In fact, a number of us were on the team who started on the now defunct "Steel Tigers" project
which was dropped with no explanation or reason given, to any of us on that team

No idea what his pen name was. His first name is Fabio. But I'm not talking about Fabio Prado.
I think he did some Normandy scenarios. Brits vs Germans. Either that or Italian front stuff.
Now that I think of it he could have used the penname "Helmut Pabst". He used that for other
creative stuff. He plays Combat Mission in his spare time these days.
