Here is a new beta for testing. I found it very challenging, although that might be my lack of tactical prowess. Basically, the Andromeda must escort a British merchant out of dangerous waters in the Persian Gulf. Unfortunately, even against F-5s with iron bombs, the Sea Cat missile only provides so much help...

Please let me know what you think. Comments, observations, etc. are all welcome. Thanks!

Awesome scenario, really enjoyed it!

I'll have to play it again and try different approaches, it is a little bit on the hard side, but reasonable. I would think that they would have requested help from the RSAF, but that would have made it too easy, and whether Saudi pilots could have been persuaded to attack at that time is arguable.
I lost all my choppers, i don't know how they could see them sea skimming, maybe i was hanging around for too long, maybe that GCI radar looks down from a mountain top. I also had some possible issues with the Andromedas guns and a error message with B542 as can be seen here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3636429&mpage=1&key=

I have no idea how to employ the minesweeper optimally, have to come up with something, maybe a minesweepzone around rfp´s locked to the freighter?
We do need a good comprehensive Mining tutorial for CMANO!

I think the mission is perfect, though perhaps a bit hard.

Minor Victory 80 points

Played through, thought this was an extremely tense scenario and well balanced. Don't think it is aimed at too difficult to be fair.
Mine was scored as a triumph 180 points, though struggled to protect my helicopters.
One air strike hit the AOR and damaged it, while Andromeda was hit by a mine that the MCM didn't pick up.

I think the only thing that perhaps didn't trigger as expected was the end, the message Dover Belle on station triggered but not the end of the scenario. This meant you stayed put for about an hour while the clock ran down. That didn't make a great deal of difference as far as I could see though.

the messages were well worked out, and I spent a good deal of time desperately watching the flooding get repaired, which thankfully it eventually did.

Playing it now, interesting situation, scale and scope.

Possibly a dumb pongo Royal Navy question - Who would realistically be the Mission Commander in this situation? Presumably Andromeda's captain would be a 3-striped Commander RN whereas on Olmeda he would be a 4-striped RFA Captain/Master? I am proceeding on the assumption that the RFA chain of command was different to and had no command authority over an RN executive officer but had not really thought about it before.

You have to like a scenario that forces you to learn more about the world that it was written for! Thanks.

Hi guys, to start with HMS Andromeda 1984 was a Sea Wolf Conversion Leander ID 86 F 57 Andromeda [Type 12I Leander Batch 3A Sea Wolf], with one Lynx HAS.3, having the correct ship you should be able to hack, kill and maim Iranian F-5's heh

Realistically I suspect swapping to a Seawolf equipped ship would primarily save a number of helicopters, I doubt it actually makes a massive impact on the overall scenario? Have so say I'd be feeling more comfortable at times of course. If not I assume a few other variants weren't Seawolf at that stage?

Made the swap for the right version of the ship...sorry, I just didn't see that listing in the database. I'm going to see how it plays. I might add a couple of extra Iranian aircraft, mines, etc. if it makes it too easy to win. :)

I think the Iranian P 81 Bayandor was damaged before i engaged her, make sure she avoids her own minefields if this was not intended

Stupid Noob question...but where do you copy the .ini files to? I've seen several of them with various scenarios, but I have no idea what to do with them!
Thanks,
Dave

I think they go into the same folder, but don't quote me.

I think you can put them anywhere, but you need to be able to find them if you update the scenario to a new version of the database. When I do it, the game prompts you to search for it.

I just uploaded a new version that takes into account the changes in the Andromeda...the Sea Wolf is a better missile than the Sea Cat, but the Andromeda has traded her main gun for four Exocet missiles...they have much better range and accuracy but once they are gone, she only has short range weapons!

I have not tried the latest uploaded version with the Exocet Leander as yet. However, I did edit the original scenario replacing Andromeda with HMS Achilles (F-12) and leaving all else as designed. Am looking forward to running two versions of the same situation using the same class of frigate but with significantly different weapons fits. Could be educational.

Thanks.

Played the original version yesterday and ended up with 0 points, but enjoyed it. The Sea Cat missile is damn near useless with it's 1000m altitude limit. F-5's can iron bomb the Navy ships way too much easily. Will try the new one today.

Everything was going perfectly, until the very end. When P221 showed up, Leander had last two Sea Wolves and wasn't able to handle the salvo of four Harpoons and was lost, with the helicopter onboard. P221 was then sunk using AS.12s by the helicopters from AOR. Perfect scenario!

This one is a nail biter - 115, minor victory. Minesweeper got sunk with gunfire from Bayandor- the first round knocked out her gun and it was bad news from that instant on, Sea Skua's got her later. The Andromeda took a missile in the chops from P 221 Kaman and by the time the fires and flooding were sorted out, she was crawling along at 1Knt with 88.6% damage! The Exocet's took the Kaman out though. Lost one Wessex to bad timing but the Lynx jumped ship and finished on the AOR as she escorted the tanker into port after scoring two F-5's - beers all around in the RFA wardroom tonight!

Good little scenario!

New version is awesome, very well balanced. The P 221´s Jammer is very effective, Wessex couldn't find her at all, and the Lynx had to attack from a certain angle to get a sufficient reflection before she was within minimum weapon range. Brilliant!
