Is anyone putting together a USMC USER data file or can someone point me towards a (free) site detailing the 1980's OOB for them

I have been considering that as part of a Scandinavian OOB along with British Marines, Norwegians, Danes, etc., but that is a long way off right now. So please jump on in.

You can search for Andy Johnson's NATO OOB, which was updated over the years, and is still available online. Johnson posts here, but I can't remember what his moniker is.

You could try searching the TOAW forum here at Matrix for info. All of the links are probably old and out of date, but some folks may have spelled it out in posts, so to speak. >> Never mind, they only seem to index a year.

You could also try sifting through official USMC sites. The Corps used to have quite a bit of 80's organization info online. My links got lost in an upgrade somewhere along the line.

Add-->> Useful search terms are Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), and Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). And worthwhile to remember that our Navy's army always travels with it's own air force to form a MAGTF.

While I'm trying to finish up the NATO/WP Database I will start to work on the USMC Database, not sure if I want to create a new database but to just add the USMC to the NATO Database.

Is there any interest in a USMC Database? I see there is over 400 hits on this thread but very little post here.

I could start the database but will need someone to make a map of certain areas of Northern Norway. Most if not all the Soviet database can be use to make a scenario for a "Battle for Norway" or hell lets call it "Northern Storm"

Off-map arty can be off shore Naval fire.

What does the players think?

I'd say there's a lot of interest, John, but that a lot of visitors (myself included) are kind of waiting for something a little meatier than just some preliminary source-sharing before chiming in. You know, they wanna make sure this project gets off the ground as more than an idea before throwing their weight behind it...or alternatively were poking their head in hoping to see a completed database...and they left without a word soon as they saw there wasn't anything of the like (yet).

I have continued to poke and prod the internet on this issue, and finally made some progress over the past few days.

One source to exam are the series of Fleet Marine Force Manuals (FMFM) such as FMFM 6-1 for division, 6-2 regiment, 6-3 battalion down to 6-5 for squad. Not a lot is available on the net. But there do seem to be copies floating around for sale.

And then I ran into this: US Marines in Lebanon 1982-1984.

To transport the additional heavy weapons and to give the reorganized battalions greater mobility, they were issued 26 additional jeeps, essentially doubling their previous allowance. In a battalion landing team configuration, the infantry battalions would also gain 24 more jeeps from their attached units.

The reduced strength of the battalions was reflected primarily in the reorganization of the rifle units. A rifle platoon now consisted of 36 Marines--including the platoon leader, platoon sergeant, and platoon and 11-man squads of two 5-man fire teams each--instead of the 13-man squads of three four-man fire teams each.

Marines with an 11 man squad?

Probably hasn't been such a thing since dear old Paw was on Guadalcanal. Anyway, it gives a person a lot to search on. And the first place I scored was at the internet archive.

In 1983 the 24th MEU was the 24th MAU, only know that because I was with the MAU Headquarters in Beirut!

Not sure exactly when the transition from MAU to MEU took place. They were still a MAU for Northern Wedding in 1982.

I have found some USMC nice imagens that can be used as badges for Red Storm. I am not sure if those are accurate or not. Sharing here in any case someone want to use it as well. I have them in my USMC faction. Cheers

Here's an edited version of the USMC OOB by A "Zed" Baird. I forgot his screen name here.

I'm terrible at formations. I think the foot battalion is working. There has been some tweaking of the numbers for weapons and units. With the help of Marine Corps Issues and Concepts I have been able to somewhat more accurately place the introduction of various weapon systems.
