The green button does not stop harassing PMs. Nor does it stop his posts from showing up if you quote them

I received HUGE numbers of pm's from Slaak. Sometimes they were entertaining. Some were serious and normal. It's easy to delete pm's. I just don't understand being so easily annoyed. And yes, he has stepped on my last never many times but I never, ever thought of demanding he be banned. Wow.

I never demanded he be banned either. But I'm not broken up about it.

Sorry, I did not mean to say you did. I was just making the point that I cannot understand why some people are so thin skinned. I have been insulted by some really arrogant WiTE fan boys. Really nasty attacks. But I never thought of asking they be banned.

No need to apologize :) Besides, people don't get banned because someone asks. But for a continuing pattern of breaking the rules.

You have a thick skin. Nothing wrong with that, so have I. But not everyone does. And more to the point, *nobody* needs to be subject to his nonsense.

After all, he wasn't banned for being amusing. His posting history shows that he *repeatedly* can't abide by forum rules. Comeback, break the rules, get banned. Lather, rinse, repeat. How long should one put up with it one puts their foot down and ends the cycle?

I was afraid of that.

It's not ppl being thin skinned. And ppl tend to like SLAAKMAN b/c he's a likeable guy.

Imagine a party guest over at the house. He's cool and almost everyone likes im. But then he gets too comfortable, gets rowdy and starts knocking stuff over. Eventually you have to escort im out.

But, but, but...he is not in someone's house. He was on a forum. Where he can be ignored. I ignore a few obnoxious WitE fan boys-and a couple pm me with venom just because I disagree with some aspect of the game's mechanics. One pm's a lot. But I IGNORE him. Sorry, I still do not get why people can't figure out they can ignore him. It's quiet easy to not read his threads. It's also easy to not read his posts on other threads. And I think it's easy to block him.

Sorry, still don't get it.

I wouldn't block his posts. I'm not anti-SLAAKMAN, I'll read his posts. He makes good ones sometimes. I've seen im post over forums over a decade. I've played vs im in a lot of different games. He's a worthy opponent.

I've seen his bbs history pan out. "Sometimes" he gets a little bit too excited about whatever conspiracy theory he's obsessing on and floods the whole danged bbs full of new topics.. That's why he always ends up being escorted out by the management. It's not b/c ppl don't like im.

Sure Slaak can be ignored. Have you ever seen a usenet group which has 50 posts within a 2 day period by someone spamming that bar code is the “sign of the devil” (or something roughly similar one might see in the National Enquirer)? I have. It floods a medium with nonsense to the point where it drives away many people who are interested in serious discussion. If Slaak ever wants to discuss anything seriously I welcome his replies (I’ve replied to some of his three or four word emails he sends me occasionally). He never wants to discuss anything seriously though, in my experience. He has the single minded mission to prove either that the “illuminati” exist or else that he is incapable of genuine discussion. Either way it amounts to utter Cynicism as far as I can reckon (in the sense of Diogenes of Sinope).

The Cynic motto in antiquity was to “deface the currency”. What happens when you have defaced enough of the “currency”? You are left with utter chaos where up is down and down is up and right is left, etc.. Is that the sort of world we all want to live in? Should we let cynicism take over? Do we all want to live in a world where people spend half their time looking for “bigfoot” or trying to spot members of the “illuminatti” in newspaper photos or where taking a #2 in public is just fine? Does there ever come a point where enough is enough or so far is too far? Do we turn our classrooms into circuses to the point where our children are incapable of adding 2 + 2 together because no one can “prove” that there isn’t a secret conspiracy by an omnipotent “evil genius” to mislead us and that 2 + 2 = 5? It is enormously easy to create a 3 word email and send it to someone. It is infinitely harder to convince that person who sent that email to either explain himself better or else stop sending such nonsense.

I invite Slaak to PM or email me with a response to the email I sent him yesterday. He knows my email and I don’t mind him emailing me. If he spams me with 50 emails in a day (so to speak) then it would be annoying (he hasn't done so to me yet) but obviously there is nothing I can do about that. All I ask is for Slaak to join the human race and stand upright. That’s about it.

Cynicism is tolerable for me up to a point but when I start to see more and more people in my own country and world around me spamming the net with crap about "illuminati" or "alien abductions" then it really is saddening for me. It's saddening to see so many people in this forum sympathetic toward "poor" Slaak, and yet not so sympathetic toward other certain more reasonable topics of discussion which I won't bring up specifics about. But after all is said and done that is my problem and no one else's I suppose. If others want to deface rational discourse there is nothing I can do about it.

I'll be expecting that email or PM shortly Slaak. Please don't disappoint me. If you didn't receive it then email me that you didn't receive it and I will resend it.

Thanks.

I have no plans at this time to restore his access. Beyond the public posts and the occasional crossing of forum rules boundaries there, there were also instances of abusing the PM system. After the previous warnings, bans and reinstatements, I have no confidence that a new reinstatement would give different results.

Regards,

- Erik
