Mar/Apr 40 Axis impulse 2 ( impulse 8 ) Fine everywhere
Germany DoW Belgium, USA is concerned and gets a chit.

All take land actions.

Belgum setup is problematic since the German para is in range. Leaving Brussels empty makes the para drop there with assist from adjacent hexes in the attack.

Other positions are equally vulnerable to an overwhelming German strength.

The Germans did not have enough attack strength to attack both Brussels and Antwerp at the same time and they chose the Capital Brussels.
This is already the 8th impulse and the turn might end before the next German impulse. If so and Antwerp had been chosen instead of Brussels the country would not have been conquered this turn.

It does leave the CW an opportunity to send the BEF into Antwerp and west along the coast of Belgium. I think that the German could ignore that pocket and go for the French border. Eventually the CW, not having that many units yet, would have to either evacuate or slide westwards into France anyway.

This raises the question of what will I have the CW do next and unfortunately in a solitaire game that does not include the fog of the other players intentions.

As yet I have not decided on what to have them do.

Mar/Apr 40 Allies impulse 3 ( impulse 9 ) rain in temperate

China, France land rest combined action

CW sends the BEF to N Sea, German NAV intercept failed.

Allied conferences resulted in a decision to land the BEF in Belgium andsenda CW fighter there as well.
In the rain the French could only bet a poor +4 attack on the German Para in SW Belgium and decided it was not worth the risk of losing French units.
The French also choose to not enter Belgium and instead defend on their own border which should also result in higher production next turn.

The front in France

The air/air fights caused a few Fighters to be aborted but all bombers got through. The strike results were about half successful.

The attacks in China worked fine but in France one was successful and the other just caused all to be disorganized with no moves.
HQ Rundstedt reorganized the unsuccesful attack units.

Out of curiosity, what was the best attack you could have made (as the French) against the lone PARA in the rainy woods - 3:1 in the rain can't be the best? I would suggest two max French stacks outside Brussels, and then what can you do against the PARA, because occupying those hexes and the forest hex (with the BEF on the flank) hamstrings Germany here quite effectively - you only give Germany two hexsides on each big stack, and the forest hex is well covered. Assuming you can take the forest hex, of course. It also kills the dang Para which is a 'good thing.' I know this is going back a few impulses, but just for your consideration.

Good catch, I did not really detail the attack, only made a quick estimate. I did not consider moving into Belgium with the French because the Germans could get the same attack on the French units in Belgium as they could into France itself and hitting them in Belgium would not give the French a production multiple increase.

I use the 2D10 tables and when I went back and reloaded a saved game to check on the attack in question I found the attack, without entering Belgium and after adding German air support in the rain was +7 + a small fraction. Entering Belgium and adding those units in the attack made it +10 and a fraction which would not have been a bad attack.

I am glad there are players looking at and considering the actions taken in the game.

May/Jun 40 Allies impulse 2 ( impulse 4 ) Fine everywhere

China, France land, rest combined action

CW had to load an Infantry unit in Malta to send to France to replenish the BEF. Italian intercept in W MEd and German in N Sea both failed.

French artillery managed to disrupt 2 German arm units that were in a key position to attack, this made the French to keep Lille garrisoned instead of backing the line up.

In China the communists have backed up some more, the Japanese there are all disorganized and cannot follow this turn.
There are Communist reinforcements coming next turn.

In the south the line looks bad but there is still hope
