It's about time Japan got some luck. They are ashore on the Philippines and Java both, now.

Actually looking back on it, the Axis had some amazing rolls in the land combat this round. Mussolini didn't get Cyprus, is the only bad bit. Even the accidental attack across the Dvina was at least mutual destruction, so the ARM didn't die in vain.

Bessarabia has been reclaimed by Romania now as the pocket has been reduced, and the situation on the Dvina river is deteriorating for the Russians. However around the Dnieper it looks like the German attack has been stopped cold... Hitler's eying the road to Moscow, and thinking the main effort needs to be focused there for a while.

US takes a naval, CW combined, China/Russia land.

Bit of a loss as to what to do with the two naval powers. In the end I decide to transfer a MECH from Malaya to India, with the intent of clearing out the partisan at Calcutta, small goals I know. The Italian east Africa colonies are still in Italian hands, I'm going to make it the CW's mission atm to take those away. After that, I guess the focus should be to build up an amphibious force somewhere, either the UK or Africa. Or both.

In any case...

the Sparviero in east Med finds the CW fleet there. But there's too much carrier air for it to stand much chance of getting through without escort.

There's another round of combat, this time the CW carriers find the Italian fleet. Most of the surprise points go on reducing the enemy AA fire which is very heavy - after that's done the AA roll is a 3, and the damage to the fleet looks like this :-

The AMPH was the CW's target, but no luck today.

After seeing some of the maths in action, the Italians decide to bug out and abort back to La Spezia. So much for taking Cyprus...

The Soviets, stung by last turns good Axis rolling, pull well back from the Dvina, over the river to Pskov and beyond. It's quite defensible there, but the main German thrust is going to be east towards Moscow, not north towards Leningrad. The defensive line around Smolensk is therefore toughened up a bit, but not enough IMO.

In the south the Soviet preponderance of force is much better, and the Soviets at least temporarily have the initiative.

In China, Mao's forces slowly envelop the once again out of supply Japanese... and some more American forces, a PARA and a MAR, debark into the UK.

The Allies are only really strong enough for one tentative ground attack, on the Dnieper river. The Luftwaffe intervenes heavily again, trying to hold off the Russian counterattacks. The Soviets do advance and destroy the defending MECH, but take losses in so doing.

Ike does some transport reorging in the UK.

Everybody goes land.

Japan manages to reorganise it's ground forces so supply is once again opened to the front line - in fine weather at least.

... they get an INF and a MAR at the end of this turn, hold on guys, hold on.

In the northern army group area, German forces mask the Russians who retreated towards Pskov, and the main body rushes east with what it has. There's a defensive line of Soviet militia but it's weak, the Germans strike immediately before the Soviets can bring up reinforcements from the southern front. +9 with a blitz, good odds of getting over the Dnieper at the north.

Italians are starting to appear at the northern end as well, as they pretty much give up on the Med.

The southern front for now is pretty much static but the German position looks quite good, neither can move easily here.

Meanwhile in the Pacific War, Japanese troops can get a +8 against the Chinese here... they are going to go for it.

Soerabaja falls to the SNLF, who are maching across Java now to Batavia.

Nobody can move in the PI, everybody is out of supply or disorganised.

The Germans roll slightly below average, that, and the intervention of the Red Air Force while the Luftwaffe is all but spent (the Soviets are now too, in the air) mean the militia heroically hold. For now.

Guderian plans on reorging these guys and trying again while the opportunity remains.

Japan's assault costs a division but it costs Mao a corps, and the Japanese position looks far far more secure now after the battle is over.

Given the Philippines turning into a sitzkrieg it's probably time to use those TRS and reinforcements in Japan for China now, and then this front line should be essentially static, especially with some FTR reinforcements to keep the Nationalist Chinese air force away.







Guderian and Manstein then do some reorging on the Eastern Front. There'll be another attack by Smolensk, with smoe Stuka support even now.

US passes (nothing to do... is this normal for the US? or am I being a noob? ). CW combined, USSR/China land.

CW moves a couple of TRS around, MAR from Bristol to Suez about the Queens, TRS to Alexandria to pick up a Blenheim (prolly for India). No naval combat as the Axis aren't at sea (yet?). As things seem quiet for the Wallies, they decide to strat bomb Lille, doesn't seem like they'll be super necessary to hold back so what the hell . No damage done. (Well, not to anything strategically relevant anyway!). Then they move Wavell up to the Tunisian border, and the Indian MECH that debarked at Chittagong heads for Calcutta and the partisans.

The USSR realises it has nothing from the southern Dnieper to send to the north bar a 6-4 INF which was at the southern tip. It moves, its in Kursk now though so a long way to go. They deem themselves fairly safe at Pskov so nobody moves there. Armour at Smolensk moves to the front, was going to keep it in reserve - but a 3 point MIL is going to get rolled over without help so the ARM helps.

The Nationalist Chinese decide to attack Yamamoto with +6 to the roll - slim odds but Yamamoto is a high value target, so the risk is deemed acceptable with the Japanese on the run. They decide to use the airfarce, with a fighter as a bomber - unfortunately they/I didn't realise that there was a Nate nearby which can actually still fly. The Nate intercepts, and shoots down the P36, killing the pilot. not a good start.

The attack goes in, Japan picks blitzkrieg, trying to reduce the chance of Yamamoto being killed. And yup, looks like he will survive this turn at least.

The Russians at Smolensk, awaiting the hammerblow, are saved by the weather. A storm means the Germans arent going to bother attempting to cross the river there, not with it newly reinforced. The Japanese are happier to see a pause in operations as there's rain there too.

As per usual when the weather is bad, Germany goes for a naval to deploy U-boats. Italy goes land. Japan goes for a combined.

Germany sends a single ultra modern sub with a long range to the 2 box of the Central Atlantic (this one came from Kiel!). The main effort is at Biscay though, with 4 subs going to the 4 box and 1 to the 3 box.

Japanese subs in the Coral Sea fail to find targets. The lone German U-boat counter in the Central Atlantic, ditto. ...Aaaand the main effort at Biscay, the same.

Completely wasted turn combat wise. Japan does transport an ARM DIV to Shanghai though, and moves a MIL to Fukuoka, ready for transport next turn, and Germany takes the lull as an opportunity to move some more aircraft to the front.

Decisions. There's not really a whole lot to be done with the Allied turns at the moment, the only thing the USSR has to do is move that INF from Kursk further north. The Chinese are mostly disorged after Chiang's attack, there is Mao free to act still but ... his odds of attacking undisorged Japanese (no more air strikes) are not so good.

50% chance of end of turn if everybody passes.

Everybody passes. A roll of 2 means winter gets closer as the turn ends.

Status: offline 		The Germans don't have enough oil to refuel even their entire airforce, though they do refuel all ground units. The U-boat and Kriegsmarine are left completely fallow this turn.

Italy reorgs everything. Germany is still giving them 2 oil a turn, that is cut to 1 oil a turn. Focus will shift to the German ground troops not messing about with the Regina Marina.

Japan reorgs everything, but the oil they saved is now all gone, shouldn't be a problem given the SYNTH they are getting this turn.

CW reorgs 90% of the navy but not everything, making that SYNTH purchase not seem so stupid I guess.

USSR reorgs everything easily. As does the US (hardly needs saying!).

Status: offline 		Kuala Lumpur is the capital of Malaya, and Singapore has no factories, so to conquer the minor country, the Japanese just need to conquer Kuala Lumpur.

Of course, that doesn't help them much if Allied units are based in Singapore and prevent it from converting automatically to Japanese control.

Germany takes an air action, Italy and Japan both naval.

Italian Sparvieros head for the east med, no other naval air.

Japan moves a convoy to the Marianas and a TRS takes a Kate to Kwajalein. A bunch of convoys go to the South China Sea, enough to slurp up all the oil and resources from there. A Ki-32 Mary is transported to Legaspi to aid in the conquest of the PI. Battleships and cruisers are sent in force to the South China Sea to protect convoys and provide shore bombardment, while Japanese submarines are deployed from Truk to the American supply lines in Polynesia and the Coral Sea. The Kido Butai moves mostly for the Coral Sea too, though not all the IJN is deployed, some remains at Truk, just in case.

Fair bit of shuttling ground troops around. an INF is taken from Japan to Java. A MAR and a MIL end up in the China Sea space ready to be unloaded. Japan is in dire need of carrier air, there's a half dozen CVs of various sorts which lack airplanes...







Japanese subs at Polynesia sink the convoy point there, but no joy finding anything int he Coral Sea which could be bad given the huge US fleet at Rabaul.

Status: offline 		The German air action means heavy bombing across the front, but especially over by Smolensk. The Red Air Force comes out to play but isn't very effective, an unescorted Stuka makes it through, and in a furball over Smolensk both sides lose a fighter but the bombers get through.






The bombers do pretty good damage - both units at Pskov are disorganised. Several units are disorged by Smolensk, though it's spread out, no full stacks.

On the southern end of the front the Luftwaffe is making a bit of an effort too, heavy damage is done. The USSR needs a LOT more fighters. Rommel and Manstein are used to reorg a lot of the German bombers.

US/CW take naval actions, USSR takes a land.

The CW sends a huge fleet to meet the Italians in the Coast of Italy sea space; operations in the Med cannot happen until naval superiority is decided after all. Unfortunately they are in the 2 box and the Italians in the 3, and the Italians have the advantage in guns, though the CW has 4 CVs there.

Glorious, Formidable, Duke of York and Hood head from the UK, where they were being fixed/rearmed with planes, to Gibraltar. The Queens take a MAR from Suez to the East Indian sea space with the intent of debarking on Java so the Japanese dont just walk all over it.

The United States decides to try and attack the Japanese in the Coral Sea. They have a huge advantage in gun power, but a slight disadvantage in the air. They reason that if they are fortunate the Japanese could suffer badly, if they are unfortunate, well, they have major navy reinforcements in 1943 so what the hell.

2 P38 are loaded into TRS and sent across the Atlantic, they will help strategic bombing immensely. A TRS, AMPH and supply are en route to the South Pacific.

And then... huge battle in the Coral Sea! Both sides find each other.

Status: offline 		The single Kate that makes it through for the Japanese is destroyed by AA fire.

The SBD that makes it through has its bombs reduced by 3 and aborts a couple of cruisers.

Not too impressive...

And neither side finds each other again so thats it.
