So does the dotted arrow to Rossel mean you tried to invade it but failed? Either way its a very good informative graphic to capture an entire years worth of campaigning in one picture. And a successful if by the books campaign as well.

That is a whole lot of oil lost at this point in game!! You're doing quite well in spite of planes not flying.

Are you trying any day missions at less defended targets?

Yes I am. Last turn 60 B-24 bombed unprotected Djambi destroying 155 oil centers.
However I do not have many minor target mirror in range yet. AF on Java gives me range to bomb two the most important, Palembang and Blikpapan.

From the Japanese side I also know that killing even HI/LI can really hurt, but in this case maybe you're happy to leave it as it might be yours soon anyway judging from your current position.

Well, As I said before, Java operation is limited in range operation. I wanted to sunk his fleet, destroy his oil wells to weaken his fleet and make him busy before main offensive at beginning '44. I am going make main advance in central pacific. Walking island by island in DEI it is very time and resource consuming way to advance, I do not like idea. Now when I have naval superiority I can do what I want on pacific and he cannot stop me.

Yep. First wiping a bunch of ships out and then hitting most of his oil production will certainly hurt.

If you're not worried about him getting extra troops in the reinforcement package, and if you're confident in your naval advantage, I hope you're considering the Kuriles.

Have you tried night attacks on the port to hit the tankers?
Does anyone know if night attacks by heavy bombers on Naval/Port attack work? I can only recall one very effective port strike in Japan by Artez using B-29s that killed a lot of ships including Yamato. Scenario was "Downfall".
Destroy his shipping and you get to keep the oil for your ships later!

I did it with B-17 at Salomon Island some time ago. It work well, I sunk 2 DD and few mirror ships and damaged 3 CA. His ports in range of my bombers are empty right now, it seems he know that it work too :).

I would be very happy if he decide send reinforcements to Java. I do not need take whole island, much better is to keep it as "black hole" witch will consume his supplies, a/c and LCUs.

We are playing without house rules, as result he move a lot of LCUs from China to Burma and Malaya. Due to this reinforcements both theatres are closed for Allied in '43 or even early '44.

Less IJA divisions on pacific islands less time and resources it will cost me next push.

Southwest Pacific HQ: Operation "Bigfoot" - Battle of Semarang.

Oil centers destroyed total count: 320

7th and 25th Division supported by 8 tanks battalions took position to assault Semarang at 22th evening. It Seems that Japanese commander predicted this attack because 3 CA and 4 DD came to bombard allied positions at night. However enemy cruisers did not left area at morning and huge air battle was fought over base. 5th USAAF lost 38 planes and claims 69 Japanese fighters, mostly deadly N1K1-J. Next 300 5h USAAF bombers drops bombs over Japanese positions. Base was captured at cost 400 allied troops, empire losses were over 4000 man, remaining enemy forces retreat towards Soerakarta.

Additionally CA Ashigara was hit by 7 1000lbs bombs, CA Nachi was hit by one torpedo and 3 1000lbs bombs and CA Myoko by 3 1000lbs bombs. CA Nachi is reported as sunk. Anyway I am afraid that I will not see those cruisers aging during Java campaigning.

It seems to me that Spidery finally noticed that I am not aiming for Batavia. His units at Cheribon tried counterattack in failed attempt to reopen connection between south and north parts of Java.

Southwest Pacific HQ: Operation "Bigfoot" - Battle of Cheribon

Oil centers destroyed total count: 471

Successful night raid at Palembang. Returning pilots reported at least 33 hits and over 20 fighters kills.

TF 83 send 69 Hellcats to sweep Batavia sky. They meet 18 Oscars and 9 Gorges in air. 3 Hellcats down for 4 Gorges and 13 Oscars.

Japanese 1st Tank Div supported by 17th Div successfully counterattacked and pushed back 43rd US Div and 30th Aus Bde. They are marching now south in clear terrain. I have ordered all 500 bombers of 5th USAAF and 6 carriers group to destroy Spidery's LCUs tomorrow. There is just 6th Aus Div blocking way I am afraid that without support it will fail to stop his advance. A I will try to avoid situation when I will be forced to turn back 6th US Corp advancing south.

South Pacific HQ:

And usually bombing all over area.

Central Pacific HQ: Operation "Shortcut" - Kusaie Island

Sailing towards Kusaie Island.

20 fighter kills at night? By bombers? Someone needs to turn their headlights off.

OK time to decide what next. General plan is to land on Marianas Islands before end of year and once more bleed out Japanese fleet.
But I still do not have any clue what next, Philippines ?, Okinawa ? Formosa ? China ? Japan ? I would grateful for any advice you guys can offer.

I don't think you need to make your decision on the route until you recon his bases and see where the best opportunities are. Your rapid advance should ensure he has not had time to reinforce garrisons and build forts as high as he would like. There are so many bases for him to cover he must leave some quite weak.

My preference would be a Philippines-Formosa path to cut the supply lines from the SRA and threaten southern China. He would have to pull back troops from the north to shore up the south China coast.

If that path has too many enemy troops, you could continue your cross-Java thrust up through Celebes and the Sulu Sea, or through Borneo. Just get air bases on the South China Sea. His convoys to Rangoon will have to cease.

Last choice in my mind is the Bonins/Okinawa route. Too many gaps for the current Allied naval and air strength and too close to Japan to prevent reinforcement or counter-invasion.

But then, you have shown that the impossible isn't - so surprise us!

Philippines and Formosa are interesting but don't really offer the heavy bomber bases that can make the B-24's and P-51 escorts interesting. How about Korea and let the medium bombers have some fun?

Anything that would let you get significant US / Allied assets into China would be a good idea - of course, if you can do that at this point (or in the near future), you've probably gutted Japan anyway.

Given the death-ride of his surface fleet from the past month, he's very short on assets with nothing in the hopper to replace them with.

I'm loving this game!

Personally I think advancing through the straits of Makassar is a great option after Java. Balikipapan of course has a good amount of oil but personally I'm more attracted to the geography of the region. You can establish bases on both sides of the strait so you can let your SeaBees and LBA do the heavy lifting. At the same time you can prepare more ambitious carrier attacks in the Pacific while the Japanese LBA are stuck countering your LBA.

It's funny that you asked, but here are some raw thoughts

- there must be a lot reshuffling and shipping of valuable units right now, in his case I would relocate the most important assets of the Timor theatre now.

- His fighters have to protect to much. Maybe you could grap a further base or too in the DEI quite cheap right now, before he has established his second (third?) line of defence. In theory, a base located in northern Borneo should close all his oil transports.

- while the strategic bombing could really shorten the war, it does not end the conflict. By following the concept of the Deep Battle you should have a careful look at the whole map again. You have achieved serious losses to the IJN, maybe you feel strong enough now for a third campaign in just another theatre, like the Kuriles or the Pacific? The more axis of attack and advange, the higher the chance he over- or undercommited in a theatre. While he has the advantage of the inner line of defence, every commitment burns fuel and supply.

So, in short, keep building up the pressure as long as he is out of balance.

Moon is gone. Bombers are resting. 27th, 40th and 41st are ready to start landing at Loemadjang tomorrow. This should be end of game for Japanese forces on South Java. 7th and 25th are continue march towards Tjepoe. Martin is pulling back to Soerabaja. But against 5 divisions and 14 Arty Regiments plus 8 Tanks Bn he does not have any chance to hold port.

I am moving a lots of engineers to Djokjakarta to build a new base for my medium bombers.

3 US Divisions are unloading at Loemadjang right now. It seems that place is defended my single company. It should fall in first attack tomorrow.
Carriers attacked shipping at Soerabaja. 2 AK and 1 AKL sunk, 11 Japanese fighters down for 8 US planes.

My marines planes attacked his shipping at Batavia today. 1 AK and 1 AKL sunk for 9 planes.

CL Capetown and CL Ceres where attacked by his P1Y1 from Cocos Island. I have forgot to change base for British TF and they sailed back to Cape Town :(

Generally game slowdown. Spidery needs more time for turn and he does not send turn every day. So no more 2 turn / day :(

A few new airframes, like: Spitfire Vb, B-24J, A-20G :)

5th USAAF bombed Soerabaja by mistake. 110k fires :(.

22nd BG [B-25G] sent several small raids at sea level against Japanese shipping around Java. 1 AK, 1 AP, 3 AKL, 8 PB, 1 E sunk, 3 more PB and 4 AKL probably sunk.

Spidery's forces evacuated Soerakarta last night. I will capture the place tomorrow.
