Notes from the Imperial General Staff

A quiet month in China, but our troops did capture the enemy airfield at Kalgan.

February 1938 Germany

The Germans awoke this morning to find themselves at War with the Soviet Union, their allies and Friends in the Balkans Rumania have been invaded by the Soviets with no warning. Germany must go to their aid unfortunately the only available routes to Rumania. Lie via Austria and Yugoslavia we have apologized to these countries and their main supporter Italy but Rumania needs aid and all other considerations will and must take a back seat

I cannot open my Japan turn.

I get a "wrong password" message.

I wrote the password down when I created it, but it is not correct now.

I could have fumble fingered it twice, on creation, and rekeying it for access to turn 1, but I have never done so before.

Could any of the issues with the Soviet turn caused an issue? In any case what remedies are available?

Sorry,

Chuck

Not sure you could try variations on various potential passwords fumbles other than that, I can only think of a restart. Perhaps the computer literate have a way of accessing passwords.

I tried variations, but I got it right when I set it, and when I logged into the first turn. Passwords can be reset by the players, and we may have to go that route.

"Passwords can be reset by the players" ?

How would this work.

Ok Germany can reset the Japanese password but I will have to replay the German turn. If cpdeyoung does not mind what password I use I will do that.

On second attempt Japanese password was reset, I played through to the Italians on the second attempt, then realized I should have done the change on the German turn DUH?

No Change to outcomes and no advantages gained. Since not much happened.

The password problem was only a symptom of much larger problems.

I have no idea what this file is. Kalgan is not captured. No victory condition was chosen.

There was no military activity of any kind. No units lost, no units killed. This looks like a beginning turn 1 before any activity.

China player : Did you see a lot of dead conscripts "littering the ground" when you logged in? I assure you I killed quite a few. Did you not launch a single attack in your turn, not an artillery bombardment, not an airstrike?

I do not know where this all went wrong, but I suspect there must be a lot more wrong.

Tom were your German and Italian first turn moves accurately present in turn 2?

It seems when the Chinese player got to open his turns the Japanese turn was gone. I have no idea how this could happen unless some one opened the Japan Turn One, rather than the Soviet Turn One. Created a password, logged in, saw they were in the wrong nation, finished a null turn, and then did a soviet turn, with the null turn instead of my Japanese turn. Does anyone remember putting in a Japanese password?

Here is the situation around Kalgan in the current T2 file. Compare it to the one I posted on the 14th.

Odd I played turn 2 Rumania had been invaded by the Soviet Union, so no change from the previous turn 2 I played a couple of days back. Also odd the file GD1938-Game15-turn2-Japan (new password) is still showing the 11:57 time stamp indicating that it has not been opened since I finished with it before lunch. Curiouser and Curiouser.

I vote for restart assuming everyone is in agreement.

That's a interesting point if the Japanese first turn had been opened in error then closed before finishing the turn, the initial password may still be in place, but allowing you to open Japanese turn one enter a password but the original password would remain in place.

Ok NP no mal intent just need a restart required all in favour(English spelling) say yea

Germany Turn 3 March 1938

No military action to report, peace time life continues and Germany hopes it stays that way.

The Chinese, oops we mean "bandits", are counter-attacking vigorously. We are taking losses on defense and offense.

We have made some more progress against the bandits.

Germany invaded Holland a diplomatic request made to France and the United Kingdom fell on deaf ears, as they immediately declared War on Germany drawing Italy into the war. This is not what Germany intended.

We made some progress against the bandits but the West has decided to intervene in Asian affairs again. The Empires
of Great Britain and France have allied themselves with China, and Germany and Italy have gone to war with China.
None of this had to happen.

Our campaign in China is about integrating Asia. While we do not appreciate Europe's colonial treatment of their
Asian territory we are not at war with them either. The warring European nations do not need to bring their war to
the Far East and Pacific. With the tangled web of alliances nonbelligerent nations must be scrupulous about any
national troops being in a war zone.

Here is a map of the current state of the bandit territory we have been watching.

Just a small query here. After I played my turn as Chinese and changed the title of the file to Germany turn 5 just before I put in the Dropbox, I got a pop-up message saying 'Operation is cancelled'. Anybody know what this means or may mean?

I tend to just drag the file from downloads and drop it into the dropbox file, I stopped running Dropbox in the background as one less app for my struggling CPU seemed like a good idea. This is a long way of saying I have no idea what that message means, especially as I guess contrary to the message the file is transferred, so my guess is the message refers to something else.

Sorry that is what I meant, the turn in the Dropbox marked Germany turn 5 is a Chinese turn. And of course look at it when you have the time, thanks.

Damn. Sorry, I've been a bit ill for a few days and when I played the turn last night I must have forgotten to click the 'end turn' button or something. If you open a turn again with pbem protection, does it return you to beginning of your turn or where you left off?

Not a problem, I am afraid you will have to replay the turn as nothing was saved. There will be a notification generated for other players that will be ignored by other players as this was a error.

Axis May 1st 1938

The Soviet Union has invaded Persia giving them that long sought after Indian Ocean port that they have so long desired plus the huge Persian Oil resources. Japan makes huge gains in China treating the paper signed between the French British and Chinese with the contempt it deserves.

In Europe Denmark was assimilated into the German Empire, German troops being greeted as liberators in the streets of Copenhagen. Or so Goebbels tells me and he never lie's. Czechoslovakia was also invited to join the greater Germany pantheon, strangely they seem less than enthusiastic, the German army has been sent in on a hearts and minds mission we wish them luck.

Imperial Japanese Command
Staff Report
2 May 1938

We made a successful attack on Yenan. The Chinese strength made other gains problematic.

The war has come to Europe and we wonder at the quickness and widespread nature of the conflict.

Here far from Yenan is a map of the lines in the south. The fronts in China are huge and her population dense.
