So you like 88s, huh? Okay, you are going to get your wish. You'll have some 88s in the new Arras-A Rude Awakening Campaign. And that is about all you will have to stop those stout Matilda II tanks as they rumble slowly along straight for your guns. How many can you kill? Should you stay where you are? Should you move? How good are your gunners? As a prelude to Mega Campaign North Africa, meet Herr Rommel as he frantically tries to avert disaster near Arras. Improvise, move, plan, consider. They are coming right for you. And lest you think this is just a turkey shoot, we have an easy and a HARD version of this campaign. You'd better be REAL good  with 88s before you take on the hard one, I promise you! You can get it now at Tankhead's web site. Up and ready for you... http://www.tankheadcentral.com/ Wild Bill

Bill, will this Campaign adapt to V5.0 ? Or should I say can one use v5.0 with these "older" scenarios ? Delta 3-2

Yes, it has been updated for 5.0, Delta, but you can use it in older versions. It works just fine...WB

Bill, I started playing the difficult version last night. Never have played a SPWAW Campaign game. When I chose my forces...I was only allotted 400 and some odd points...oh well I thought. Anyhow, I bought as much of an Infantry battalion as I could get. Thankfully, once I got to the map...there were other Kameraden for me to soldier with. Anyway....I'm finding the Matilda's are on me like the proverbial "flies" ! I've tried sending in a few 37mm rounds to their rear and they bounce right off ! How in hell the 88's can save the day is beyond me ! But, I'll find out. Now..thanks for the ARRAS scenario. WE need more of the early war battles in Europe. So much more challenging. Delta 3-2

Just have finished the first battle. Thought for a challenging battle i will take no 88´s... The next battle i will take a pair of them otherwise there is no chance to beat these matildas (aar: seven destroyed - draw) This time it´s not as easy for tommys...

Be sure you get transport for them. You will most likely have to move them or Tommy will be having lunch sitting on the trails of your 88s  WB

Damn it, that was fun. I won a decisive on the easy one, but it was touch and go there at points. Excellent campaign Bill, although my 88s sometimes abadoned their gun around 3 times, the presence of rommel sent them straight back into the fight! :)

Just finished the second battle, but i forgot that with "reduced ammo on" my two 88´s just have 7-10 AP rounds... So i just got a draw, damm Matildas!

I guess they decided they had rather face the Matildas than Rommel ;), Zombie! Nice touch of realism, huh? "Gott himmel! Too many tanks! Let's get out of here!" "And just where are you going? Back to that gun!" "Jahwol, my General! We were just taking a break! Heinz, feed me a shell!" :D Wild Bill

Just finished the easy version WB. Where did you get the french tankers?? On the move they were hitting and killing at about 15 hexes. I lost 4 tanks in one turn, thought things were going bad on me but some heavy arty gave those french tankers something to think about. Here's how I did: German Allied Men 143 680 Arty 0 1 Soft Vehicles 1 0 APC's 0 6 AFV's 14 97

Aye, you are ready, Mac! Good score. Delta, next time around include two 88s and transport. Set them up with good LOS. Be ready to move them should they come under heavy fire. Displace and regroup! You just can't let those Matildas too close! Though the main shell is only AP, those machine guns can hurt you. It can be done..but it will make you sweat buckets  WB

I just finished the first battle of the hard version. Man, hard is right! I lost all the victory areas right at the end but I knocked out enough Brits to get a draw. I destroyed 13 Matilda's and all the armored cars. I lost one (of my 2) 88's. I also lost both my ammo trucks and the fighting was so hot that I actually had some scouts run out of rifle ammo!! I destroyed a few (3 I think) Matilda's with close assault, mostly Engineers and I actually got one with the 20mm gun on an armored car (rear shot, range 1.) I suspect I hit it often enough to anneal the armor. A good battle, thanks Bill, for the next one I've upgraded my 2 37's to 88's, now I have 4, but only 3 transport vehicles (don't ask.)

On the easy version - and ouch. Managed a decisive on the first, not too bad due to good placement of Aux forces. On the second getting the 88s into a useful spot was really dangerous. Big line of smoke from the infantry as the matildas closed in & a couple of brave engineers smoked the first few tanks coming in, then all hell broke loose. Lucky the rest of the engineers piled into the fray at that point. Missed the last VP spot by a turn, but still got a marginal victory. Now the French are coming - from everywhere Anthony

Well, I made it through the second battle of the hard campaign with a Marginal Victory, 4203 to 1120. I got 20 Matilda's and took only slight losses to my core force. I was able to get to two of the three victory hexes but the British Infantry kept me off the last one. Man, what a difference 4 88's make! I just started the third battle and it's loooking grim. The Frenchies have damaged some of my 88's with artillery, their tanks are swarming at me and my tanks seem to be shooting wooden bullets !!

You would think that it would get better...those poor 7th Division German troops had a rough day at Arras! WB
