New GC game. It is my second game against Mike. In first I played Ger and lost.

Settings:

Alt CV. No +1 rule. Mild Blizzard.

Rules:

Reduced bombing - 3 attack limit (apart from turn 1)
No bombing of HQ if not stacked with otther
No amphibious assault west of Sevastopol before '42.

No paradrops breaking pockets before blizzard, afterwards max 3 unit in chained paradrop.

German turn 1. In the south RR line was broken so Lvov pocket will be created on turn 2.

Plan is to run away behind Dnepr and form strong but relatively short defensive positions to divert German's advance from most important targets.

In the north defending area west of Velikie Luki got priority.

I do not intend to fight here for few more turns. Proper defences will be created west of Dnepropetrovsk and Poltava.

(Unfortunately there is still no reason for Soviets to stay west of river Dnepr, although postponing industry withdrawal by 1 turn is step in right direction.)

T2 north (German)

Predictably Germans crossed river Velikaya, but strong presence in swamps to the south discouraged Mike from shifting his attack eastwards.

Plenty of quality units were railed north. Favourable defensive terrain and no German infantry yet should let me hold Pskov for at least one more turn.

First line is strong and should stop German direct advance east.

Temporary defence of river still takes place.

Thanks.

At the beginning I have to say I found new CV very misleading.

I just played turn 1 and my Russian cv were way lower than those shown here. I also had many units start with what seems to be even lower starting morale. Even in the para units.

I meant low morale for units, not for cv. in the low 30's for a number of para's

Pskov and "land bridge" should hold for one more turn at least, maximum two - Mike's thrust towards Velkie Luki spreads my forces thin so once his infantry arrives I will retreat east.

I decided to abandon river west of Kremenchug to force Mike northwards.

T4 north (Soviet)

Unfortunately two decisive battles were lost (Pskov and swamps to the east), so I had to retreat north behind protection of river Luga

German "blob" looked scary (5 stacks with CV 50+) so once again I played it safe.

I haven't played German side under 1.08 so I am not sure what is and what isn't possible in therms of fuel supply for Mike's panzers.

Industry from Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhe has been railed away so I was able to adjust my defences accordingly.

Transitory turn in north and centre. Germans rapidly approaching main defensive lines in both areas.

German panzer drive hard to the north stretching my defences far too much for my liking. I still have to defend Kharkov and Red Army is still not numerous enough to create deep defence that would protect me against encirclements.

Germans managed to cross river Luga and it seems that Leningrad is destined to fall - shortest way to city is protected by quality units, but lack forts, and so far high CV proved to be a bit infalted.

Mike has divided his panzers into 3 groups what enables him to constantly outflank my positions. I am giving up ground faster than intended.

Painful developments. Paper thin defences has been breached and several quality units have been semi-encircled. Failed counter-attack sealed their fate.

Unfortunately I still can't rail excess of troops to Moscow or Leningrad area - Donbas industry has not been evacuated.

German panzers are slowly but steady pushing their way through my defences, so soon I am afraid I will have to move Independent Army to the south and help against main threat.

Another defensive position have been compromised. I find it really hard to stop German mobile units under AltCV rules.

I need to hold Stalino for 3-4 turns, but unfortunately I don't think I will be able to do it.

I am genuinely surprised and relieved, that Mike decided to change direction of his attack from north to east.

Transitory turn. Germans creeping ever closer towards Moscow and Tula and I do not have enough units to form reliable defensive position. It is especially bad in the souther part between Kaluga and Orel.

Test will come next turn. I have strong and numerous forces here, but there are too many potential avenues of attack, so I don't see being able to evacuate whole industry.

Intensive fighting continues. I don't expect to be able to rail more reinforcements north, so I guess my line will collapse sooner or later.

Mike managed to cross river north of Rzhev what forced me to fall back to next defensive line. THis is very unfortunate because I will spread my defences far and wide giving him opportunity to choose most promising direction of attack.
