Edit: Well what do you know. A simple restart is all it took to fix it. I probably should have bothered to at least do that first. Still though, I wonder why they disappeared. I had tried saving and reloading, straight from ingame and again from the main menu. Neither of those fixed the problem. I guess, if nothing else, this can still serve as a bug report?

*Shrug* I'm just glad it's working.

Edit 2: After playing for a little I ran into a problem with the sound. I'm not sure how long I played before I realized there wasn't any music. And the sound effects were really dulled. More than usual dulled. I keep music on 100% and sound effects around 30%. I checked and that's indeed where they were. I moved the sliders back and forth. Checked the volume mixer, slider was maxed, game wasn't muted. Tried the same things as before. Saved. Tried to load from within the game. Quit to main menu and loaded. Problem didn't go away. Only fixed when I restarted completely. Something else weird here is that I actually restarted twice. The first time I didn't close the launcher itself, just the game, and that didn't fix it. The second time I closed the launcher too and that fixed it.

I do mute the game via volume mixer from time to time when I want to tab out and watch a couple videos or something. I wonder if it bugged out somehow. And I wonder if it's at all related, since it happened so close to my other problem and as far as fixing it, handled pretty much the same way. *Shrug*

Edit 3: Just noticed I had an empty "music" folder in my theme folder. Maybe that has something to do with it. Also, my sounds folder has a bunch of folders for each race in it, and in each folder are 4 mp3s for the different diplomacy moods. I'm definitely thinking that my problems are related to this modpack I'm using. I should probably mention by the way that it's the Beyond Extended Universe megamod.

This is a little hard to explain. But the... "highlights"... the colored shapes that went around things. They're missing.

I might be jumping the gun a little on making a thread, as I haven't even tried restarting the game or loading a different theme. But I'll be updating this every time I do something.

The most noticeable is on ships, when you zoom out there's supposed to be different colored shapes (pretty sure they're blue), circles for civilian ships, squares for construction ships, triangles for explorers, and I think diamonds for other military ships. All of this is missing.

This one is hard to distinguish, as I can't point specifically to what I think is missing (haven't played the game in a while), but there's something missing around the bases. When I zoom out my spaceport has an icon, but I don't think my research station does. I feel like there was supposed to always be some kinda outline or something surrounding the stations, even when zoomed in close, so you could just know they're there. When I started constructing the research station for example, and paused immediately, it was COMPLETELY invisible unless I selected it. I literally had to click randomly (yes I know there's buttons but that's not the point) to find it. When I do have it selected, there's a purple ring around it. Same with the ships.

So I don't know, this is my first run of this new modset and I did mess around with the images, but I can't imagine what I did to get rid of those, and wouldn't it generate an error if they were missing or even just default back to the original icons from the main game file? Did I have a mod installed which added those shapes? As I said it's been a while, but I doubt this is the case, I really feel like those shapes were default.

Anyway, gonna do some testing. My hope is that another theme (mainly the one I was using before- haven't touched it at all) will have those shapes. If not I won't know what to do. If they are there, then there's something I'm missing, and I'll have absolutely no clue what it is.
