I just wanted to thank the contributors to the forum who posted advice geared towards newbies!
Years ago I picked this game up but just never got into it (that's all changed!)
This forum has helped in getting me into the game. I read a little, played a basic scenario, read a little more,
played another small scenario and off to the big campaign.

I started a big campaign before I learned about the beta. Did the beta download and started another.
No...the game is not perfect but sure is a lot of fun. Time killer is the phase I see quite a bit in these forums...
its true!

I only got into January of 42 on both games. They both played very different. My latest game the british raiders from
Singapore (you know the good old Repulse and company) just stumbled upon a convoy and the IJN took a hit!
Amazing how a game this old can bring out a loud holler in an old player of war games (going back to C64!) The IJN reacted to my lingering and smashed into that
task force and it turned out to be a trade off of sorts...what fun!

Congrats on getting to January'42. I have never progressed past 20 December 1941 - the urge to restart is too great. I think I read more about the game than I actually play it. Truly great game.

Playing AI is a good way to get blooded but the real fun begins with a human player....even if he be a green lizard (Gorn). You will, when ready, find opponents at all skill levels. Most opponent are fine gents. Don't be shy about trying!

The game sucks!!
Ruined all other war/simulation games for me!

My wife complains "All you want to do is Football, "The Game" (as she calls WitP-AE) or sex."
I had to correct, "No I like food and beer also"

I can see beer while playing and a break for sex or food, but football too? How's a guy supposed to stay focused?

Sex??!?!?!?
Are you serious??
How can you think about sex when you're planning the invasion of India or are waiting for the next turn to pop up in your mailbox when a CV engagement is expected?!
Under my roof sex is allowed only when playing Japan between August 1942 and Jan 1943. Everything before or after that period is a no-sex area. Live with it or stick with it

Sometimes you guys are just too much!!!

BTW gap, welcome aboard. Say bye-bye to life as you knew it.

P.S. I did it pretty much the same way. Read/play, play/read. Repeat as needed.

Job killer could be an alternate term, if you have a job.

Yeah, welcome. And, find a human opponent. Playing the AI just teaches you bad habits. It is good for a little practice though.
