Dacca falls

I have to figure out what to do next. He has 2 seriously injured army divisions somewhere in the east side of India. He has 7 units and 44,000 troops at Chittagong. That means 2 divisions at least. I am guessing his firepower between 800 & 1000 AV there.

I have 1100AV just north of that base.

I would love to drive directly on Chittagong and take it out but I do not believe I have the firepower and it subjects me to naval bombardment. Also, a large loss at Chittagong could reverse all the gains I have made to date.

The cautious side says pull back to Comilla and solidify my position there.

Strategically this has got to have him scrambling. I am even thinking of ways to put troops on Ceylon just to push it a bit further.

All my carriers are in for their July upgrades and by mid month will be ready to party!!

By August I want to be ready to do a blitz on the Marshall islands along with dropping 3 marine divisions on Australia.

You can also set your TF destination to an ocean hex anywhere and the entry hex will line up with it. Simply have your TF home port be where you want it to go. If you want to remember where it came from so you can send it back there after unloading then use the TF name feature with something like "To Cape Town".

+1 to not attacking Chittagong. I think you need to try to build up Comillas fort and try to strengthen the base as much as possible. And of course also strengthen your position at Imphal. The real question is how long can you hold the ground you took. I think the Japanese will be forced to do something about Imphal in the short term; they either need to break out of eastern India or retake the base. The latter seems most likely. But maybe you could capture that hex NW of Imphal to give yourself an escape route should you be unable to hold the base.

I can hold it for as long as I want. I have 3 divisions of experience australian troops and a division of experienced british troops as well as an experienced tank regiment.

He would have to muster 8+ divisions to move me if I choose not to go.

He has 2 divisions behind the lines in crappy supply. I know where he has to go. Like you said, either through imphal or take back comillia, dacca, etc. Either way he has a month or more of delay off of any plan he had previously going.

Unfortunately Imphal has 59 damage to the runway and it is only going down 1 per turn. I can get paratroopers in and supply but not ground forces yet.

NJP is massing forces at Chittagong and I have 2800AV at Comilla. My guess is he would rather try to outflank me than do a direct attack. Either way it appears to have slowed any attack he has coming in India.

July 1942 - Australia

In a surprise move the KB comes out of hiding to attack a number of armored units moving on Portland.

Having the KB come out of hiding to drop bombs on dirt is priceless. It also shows a desperation move that surprises me.

I am thinking more and more that Australia is mostly a ruse. We shall see soon.

The armored units got ahead of themselves but he trashed mostly support units and not most of the tanks. The 800+ AV will be marching on Portland. Lets see what we can stir up.

Australia - how is your supply situation here?? Are you monitoring it by hand or through Tracker?? Between here and operations in India, Japan has got to be stretched pretty thin on troops deployments.

Sadly for him the supply situation has not changed in Australia. I am still sitting on 550K of supplies. The resource and supply generation in the area that I control has been sufficient for keeping the levels stable.

I am going on the offensive in Australia. His KB attacks and the failed attack today at Tasmania hint at desperation. The siege on Java has taken too long and his forces there including a good tank division, the imperial guards division and 2 tank regiments have been pretty torn up by the fighting. He will take Bandoeng soon but the delay has cost him precious time.

He still has not taken the Phillipines although supply there is terrible.

Now that he has given his position away (and it is so terrible). I may have to change plans slightly for a brief time and take a few islands in the pacific with my newly released carrier fleet. Have to think on this one. Otherwise, I am going to break him on the rock known as Australia.

Look at his strategic postion!!! *sigh*

Australia July 20, 1942

The AA caught up with the wayward tanks and a good thing too.... They were needed today.

Nothing feels better than watching Japanese crack naval aviators die to flak... Those boys will not be putting any bombs into my ships again!!!

NJP continues to try to finish taking Tasmania. He has brought in more troops.

His results are likely disappointing for him.

I have 10K in supplies at the base and was at 13K a few months ago so unless he tries to bombard the fortress there he is in for a long siege.

Here is Bandoeng.

His guards force was strength 350+ as well as the tank division a few attacks ago. His troops are worn out and pushing it.

Late July 1942...

I am completely mystified by my opponents position in this game. He is fighting his heart out for Tasmania. The KB and mini-KB are at Portland protecting 200 of his AV against my B-17 bombers. (did a great job last turn!!)

Is there something I am missing here?

Now that my carriers are refit and moving we are 12 hexes from baker island headed west. It appears that there is no significant resistance at least air wise in the pacific all the way to Rabaul.

He found a surface task force and several transport task forces moving toward baker today. He did not locate the carriers in the group but might assume they will be there.

We are going to do an amphibious assault on baker with an infantry regiment. He likely has an small force there with air support. The airfield has not been improved so it is still level 1.

He has not taken tabituea. He took taraway but unkown forces are there. It also has not been improved. Maybe my opponent thinks this area is not important due to the strategic outcome of the last game with several island groups left untouched. He seems to think that if he can block me enough in Australia then he can gain time??

Everything I am seeing points to a less knowledgeable and capable player than last game and I do not believe that to be the case so what am I missing here??

You are missing that army that was used to take Singapore. And that southeastern Australia is isolated. The Japanese tactics this game definitely do leave a lot to be desired, but the Japanese are still poised to take Australia pending a few divisions of IJA reinforcements and the fall of Tasmania. I know you have good supply now but what's it going to be like 3 months from now? 6? 12? At some point either you break through to Australia or it falls.

I think the concurrent invasion of India watered down the power he can bring to bear in Australia. He has begun withdrawing in India but will find it hard to disengage cleanly.
By the time he reinforces Australia the Allied navies will have gained enough strength to threaten his LOC. Should be interesting.

Supply has not significantly dropped over 3 months.

He will have to put the equivalent of 7-8 divisions together to get 1-1 odds in a heavy urban hex. If he really wants to drag 1/2 his army to Australia to try to win the game I wish him luck because he is going to need it.

Meanwhile, I will gut the pacific and trash india/burma.

NJP is sweeping in india. He usually gets 1-1 to 2-1 odds so he can do it as much as he likes. It gives me an edge every time i get better than 4-1.

Kashima ordered magazines flooded at the end of combat and I heard a glug glug immediately after the battle. I think that 2 of them will eventually decorate the bottom as artificial reefs in the area. The bombs hit were 1000#'ders and they all penetrated the deck armor and wreaked havoc below.
