Here's the deal, I have 18 of fleets spread out along my 12 system empire. Recently a pretty big Caslon shortage started, which I initially attributed to my resouces modding, or to a low amount of sources. Both were false, I have 7 Caslon stations spread inside of my empires territory, or in the Gas Clouds nearby (The primary source of fuel after my modifications).

I then decided to check my 7 sources so I could know what was going on, and to my surpise, if I put all my 7 stations together, I would have more than 120 thousand units of fuel, with one of those having more than 40k units, stocked at places where it wasn't needed. In the mean time, the homeworld and my naval bases are all completely dry, the fleets are having to go far away from their posts to refuel and while they do Pirates come and blow up my stuff.

I then tried to look in the freighters transporting things around my empire, and they where all transporting between 2 to 300 units of resources. With about 2500 cargo capacity.

And sometimes they would go to the other side of the galaxy in another empire's territory to again buy 30 units of something to transport back.

Just what the hell is going on? Does this happen to anyone else? Shouldn't the freighters take care of all this crap?

It seems your freighters are busy getting other stuff. How is your supplies of luxuries and strategics? Also, 7 caslon sources for 12 colonies is not a lot.

Since they travel across the galaxy to fetch stuff, it seems quite obvious that they can't find it anywhere closer. Them doing long treks will also make them burn more fuel which does not help your fuel supply either.

The AI is balanced around default setups, if you mess with them, be prepared for the AI to struggle.

I have 14 out of 19 'normal' luxuries, and of those I have between 1-2 sources, With Yarras being at 7 sources.

I have 17 out of 19 'normal' strategics and of those I have between 1-7 sources, with Caslon having the most at 7 sources, followed by Steel at 6.

I agree with you, 7 sources probably aren't a lot, I should have atleast 1 per colony, but I fail to see how more sources can help me here if the freighters don't bother moving them.

Looking at the expansion planner, I actually have some nice stocks, with Steel having the most (excluding the fuels) at 126.4k units, and at the lowest I have Osalia at 15.2k. The luxuries really are quite low, with pretty much all of them having less than 5k in stock, and I should try to get some more.

Now directly adjecent to the stock number is the 'in transit' number, which I think realtes to freighters transporting the goods (or on their way to doing so). Those numbers are abysmally low, with 14.6k units of Caslon being transported, and most of the 'important' strategics such as Steel, Lead, and Gold, have between 1k to 4k units being transported. and the stocks of those 3 are over 70k.

After checking on some of the freighters in foreign territory, they seem to be mostly transporting luxuries that I don't have, or have a low supply of and that makes perfect sense, what doesn't is the AI not transporting the supply I do have.

I have a total of 176 freighters with 2500 capacity, for a total empire wide capacity of 440k units. That ought to be enough.

I know that, I expected the AI to struggle a bit, that was the whole point of my modding, vanilla DW has way too many resources everywhere.

EDIT: Huh, looking at the forum now I noticed my version of the game is outdated by two versions. The changelogs don't seem to have anything to do with freighters but it might help.
