Holy Crap!!!! You guys did it!!!!!

I LOVE IT!!!!

Individual Bases files for all nations, a grid of bases per nation, to be pointed at by a unit-by-unit Platoon data parameter

It is a beautiful mother of a unit base system, to quote Oddball

I will spread out the details in a Dev Diary maybe later this week.

Nice!

There's the Heer, Kriegsmarine, and Luftwaffe bases, and of course SS units to fill up. These unit bases are pointed by Platoon data, so Armed forces branches is what they do.

Of course, for specific scenarios, there could be Divisional / Regimental insignia as well. Throw them in as a mod, then take'm off once done.

So many nations, so many possibilities

Good thing the next UPDATE is not due right now.

Plenty of time to get them right

- 6th Paras Regt on Blueish Wehrmacht winter roundel. C'mon guys, we need a Fallschirmjäger unit base!

A couple for the FJ Divisions

Green Devils in the Snow, with splinter green camo.

And the hold at Cassino, in a traditional board game Luftwaffe light blue.

Note the FJ badge appears on the turn notification and while not shown also in the unit info boxes.

Comments? Suggestions?

I have a favorite, the darker bases. The emblems on the bases seem just about right(size-wise).

Nice. Will these be adapted for use with the update?

Thanks guys!

Gotta tell ya fellas, I was all for the dark blue also but you do not want to look at a map full of those! I loaded the above scenario with everyone dark blue and it was just way too colorful. That's why I toned down the unselected units.

I've been revisiting some earlier unit bases particularly the SS. Been cleaning them up even more and adding some subtlety to the coloring. You'll be seeing them.

Comments? Suggestions?

Here's another shot of my Unit Bases test bed, with XLVIII Pz. Korp's unit base mods.

I mean, what's there not to like?

Base design. I like the new, lean look of your bases in general. So where the stock bases are like, errm 'buttons', your's are like 'coins', for lack of better words. It all provides for a new, fresh look.

Classic bases. Like the Late War US Base. Love it. Simple in design, it fits my less-is-more preferences just perfectly. And the frosty winter alternative (not shown here) provides for a very nice, well, winter alternative . So yes, I also like the Dark Green Wehrmacht variant, so maybe do "one set" with plain designs. Plain SS, plain Luftwaffe (as in your post).

Camo bases. Yes, like them too! Thing with camo bases is that they need to fit the theatre of operations they are used in. So in this Middle East desert terrain, look at how great the Afrika Korps bases are. Love them. I like how the unselected bases are clearly lighter than the selected ones. This means the unselected bases blend into terrain very nicely, as you expect the camo version to do, but the selected bases pop out so that you can tell them from others. So while the SS camos look a tad dark here, this is the wrong terrain and I'd need to see them in the Western Europe or East front terrains to see how they work. Another example of the camo bases done well are the Japanese camos (not shown here) you did. The unselected bases again blend to jungle very nicely, while the selected ones pop out as you'd expect them to.

Themes. I really like the common themes you've put in as well. Like the selected bases having larger insignias, and unselected smaller. So I definitively would like to see you keeping this theme with all your designs. They are distinctively yours.

So to that end, putting this all togehter, perhaps you could make the Luftwaffe blue FJ bases look less like 'buttons', and more like thin 'coins' like your other bases are. Otherwise, they look really the part, and fit nicely your "Classic designs" base set.

So I guess what I am saying is that I definitively want to see more of these! When you're done with countries, yes please! for starting to do regimental and divisional insignia as well. So easy to plug in as a mod to one's favorite scenarios.

So looking at that again, I guess what these lean 'coin' design bases share in common is the narrow, wide dark side to them. For instance DAK, Late War US, Wehrmacht camo, Wehrmacht Winter Alternative. Love that. So maybe like the Early War US you could extend the yellow circle closer to edges, to make them look thinner as well?

Hey, you asked for comments

What is important is you enjoy creating them and follow your own vision to them. Keep up the great work!

Weekend is coming and with a new month... something new???

For example the total of scens/list of scens and what war cover, compared with DG i think we are going to have more scens no???

EDIT: interested in the "special" scenarios, i am curious about if you explore the idea of USA and URSS supporting their "little friends"

Of course, this will be the core set of scenarios.

Scenarios will also be included in the UPDATES as they come available.

Not to mention at least 36 more scenarios in the three LCGs.

All told, about 100 scenarios of one form or another.

Is there an in-between color of dark blue you can use that would be somewhere in the middle of the two examples you gave?

Thanks for the info, i am curious about the 1982 scens, if they have Merkava MKI and T-72 maybe i can try rework a 1973 scen using them (i need understand the scen code, the idea is change only the unit composition... but is hard with no labels or any clue about what refer the code).

EDIT: i see the T-72 icon and an... AMX30???

What I tend to do is give selected units a darker color and larger insignia while unselected are a lightened tone with a 30% reduction to insignia. Playing with contrast and brightness in a Photoshop is a nice way to achieve this effect. So far though even this approach has had exceptions for me. I load the units up in a scenario and then make a call based on the map appearance. I have found that quite often making all the units the darker color creates a much too "busy" map to look at. Of course with a little copy and paste using even MS Paint you could modify any file to make all units dark.

Something else to keep in mind is that any original Divided Ground scenarios, or add on's, will NOT be compatible with Middle East.

Middle East is a brand new venture from the ground up.

I have to say, after I saw your examples I've got to have your base. I mean (no disrespect to the previous work done by the original graphics) but these are a great improvement. I can't see myself using the old british bases or American bases. I really never liked them that much. And seeing examples of what they could be, wow!
