Here is an important late 44 plane for Japan. Gadzooks!

It needs to be assigned to the IJAAF (Army).

Since this is focus pacific, and althist, I think the Allies really need bolstering early on...how about adding the Hood and a few more destroyers to Force Z?

I don't think it would hurt, since the IJN has the Yamoto, Musashi and a third super heavy already steaming around.

Just uploaded an update.

Changes include:
*Added the P-40Q as a late-game Dutch fighter. One of my goals in this mod was to keep the minor allies relevant, and the P-40N just isn't close to being competitive in 1944 or 1945. The P-40Q was a streamlined, bubble-canopy version of the P-40 with a supercharger that overcame the air-craft's biggest shortcoming - high altitude performance. The design was not manufactured because the P-47 and the P-51 were considered superior, but in this scenario the plane was produced for lend-lease export. I wanted both France and the Netherlands to have a different "feel" to them late game, with slightly different capabilities than you would find by just giving them USAAF and Commonwealth hand-me-downs. I think this change helps achieve this goal, with France flying the P-63 King Cobra and the Netherlands flying the P-40Q.

Manuverability and climb rate adjusted downward from the picture you see here to better fall in line with other allied aircraft.

*Added more Indian small and large ground force leaders

*Removed the P-39D from the French line-up. Previously I had the French flying both the P-39D and the P-400, which was unnecessary and confusing. All French air-groups that previously flew the P-39D have been now assigned the P-400.

*Fixed the Endurance issue with the Orion-Class AMCs.

*Guam gets a small Buffalo detachment

*Oosthaven gets a CD unit

*After 2 weeks, Dutch reinforcement regiments appear in Ambom, Palembang, Soerabaja and Tjilitap

*Some marine detachments get a small boost in the Pacific

This made me realize I had the wrong plane art for the Rob, thanks! Now fixed:

I agree that the allies could use another battlewagon to even the scales a little bit, but instead of the Hood, what about the Jean Bart?

The Jean Bart is the sister ship to the Richelieau, and a beast in it's own right. I created a separate ship class for it, as in stock the Richelieau enters the game with a mid-late game AA suite, which the Jean Bart would not have in 1941. In 1943 the Jean Bart can upgrade to the better AA suite.

There were two more French Battleships laid down that were never finished - the Gascoigne and the Clemenceau. Very similar to the Richelieau class, these two ships had 1 4-turret mount fore and aft, instead of the 2 mounts forward like the Richelieau and Jean Bart. These will start the game unfinished, in a similar state to the Joffre and Painleve. Like those ships, these will have to be sailed from Tahiti to a large repair yard, taking up yard space for 4 months before they are completed and ready to sail.

*Added float plane detachments for all three new ships.

To update:

Download new scenario files: Focus Pacific > Scen Files, and place these files in your SCEN folder.
Download new plane art: Focus Pacific > Art > Plane Art > A_PlaneSide.bmp, Aptop_alpha.bmp, Aptop.bmp, J_PlaneSide.bmp, Jptop_alpha.bmp, Jptop.bmp, and place in your ART folder.
Download the side art for the Gascoigne class: Focus Pacific > Art > AlliedShip_Back > AnSide0845.bmp, and place in your AlliedShip_Back folder
Download the transparency art for the Gascoigne class: Focus Pacific > Art > AlliedShip_Trasp > AnShil0845.bmp

For those downloading the mod for the first time, please use the instructions previously posted in the thread.

Why do those aircraft have two engines in the specs? They are single engine fighters.

The Ki-64 used two Kawasaki Ha-40 engines, one in front of the cockpit, and one behind.

Commander Cody and I started a game with the latest update.

We encountered two problems: differing pwhex data files, and for some reason CC's official patch is Dec 24, 2014 while mine is Dec 25, 2015.

We played anyhow.

I am Japan, and issued only two orders both paratroop drops in the PI. The Pearl strike was costly in Zeroes which swept, and I doubt any BBs were sunk. The French shot down 20-30 planes over both morning and evening in China. At least the afternoon raid was escorted, not so the morning raid.

Force Z disappeared. About as good a first turn as possible for the Allies.

Now for a bear of a turn.

I uploaded another batch of Scen files - the French Cruiser Algerie didn't have a nation assigned to it, and so would not spawn in game. I also changed the entry location of 3 Suffren class cruisers that appear in early 1942 from Pondicherri to Aden. Work has started on adding the F8B and the TB2D to the allies side in mid-1945. Production numbers on these will be relatively low - the idea is the ability to equip one or two elite squadrons with these planes, rather than having them be an "I win" button for carrier combat.

I cranked thru my first turn, skipping large segments to get the turn down like Manchuko, but I will catch up to them within the first 7 days played.

I noticed several new planes, several really crazy upgrade paths for r&d. For example Oscar IV to Frank R;, Frank R to and Nick B to Karyu; Nell to Frances. Man, if the game gets to 44 there will be everything flying for Japan. Shinden and Grace are CV rated, etc, etc.

So if you skipped generation you could have the end war planes really quickly.

I also started delving into the Japanese OOB and Industry. Taking Nauru to feed the Marianas Light Industry looks pretty reasonable and Japan's industry is strong. Understatement.

IJN has 38 knot MTBs, a Heavy Bomber design, overall a very different flavor than stock. This game will be a slugging match...especially if you shelve autovictory, but perhaps the Allies get enough to hold that off. Don't know, purposefully stopped looking at the Allied OOB so as to be surprised.

Opening strategies: You can do pretty much anything I think. There are 13 free divisions plus others and the shipping to use them. Only one AKE, but good on everything else if not in the greatest of places. Allies are stronger in CentPac with the French so you need to be careful there; and the Dutch and British might put up an early fight as the Brits have a lot of CA/CVL style ships.

I noticed a size 20 or 25 repair shipyard at Darwin, so there are some goodies on he map to be gathered.

Will be fun and bloody!

Looking forward to the slugfest with Lowpe. Family matters will keep me from my Dec 8 turn until tomorrow, probably. I was expecting to have to grab socks, but it doesn't sound too bad--yet.

Cheers,

I would like to try this scenario, but I have not played a PBEM game since UV days. I have been playing against the
AI for a couple of years using the stock scenarios. I would like to try something different but it seems that the Ai
does even worse using it for mod scenarios. I should be able to do a turn a day if someone is willing to that a
noob on.

While I am waiting for my next turn, I am delving into the OOB.

Watchout you AFBs, the Germans are in this mod, and they are good, nay great. In fact, from what I can tell all German Captains (for the Uboats and AMCs) at start have exactly the same stats but different names.

Have no fear, AFBs, the AMCs have surface radar and also only an experience of 75, not the 90 the Uboats start with.

Japan actually gets replacement planes in this scenario. Nice little perk, can you imagine how many Nates there will be by games end.

You can also see some of the different upgrade paths here.

Commander Cody and I are a few days into this campaign...1st turn was darn near historical with only 2 paratroops drops in the PI. Pearl was a very disappointing attack from Japan's viewpoint. Force Z saved.

KB hanged around for two days, sweeping and bombing the port (once more) hvy fires and hvy damage on two BBs, most Allied ships try to make a run for it...Pennsylvania torped 3 times by Iboats, Vals hit the other ships fairly hard. It seems several Allied BBs escaped...Allied fighter strength at Pearl decimated...but the several Vals and Kates are downed too.

The Empire just landed at Mersing under CV cover with a division; Manus and Tarawa have fallen, northern Luzon, Miri. An IJN carrier force is north of Balikpapen, lots of IJN destroyers chasing the thundering herd till ammo ran out.

A few stragglers from the Thundering herd ran due east...ran into more IJN carriers. Oh my, they are everywhere!

Allies try to strike back with low Catalina strikes, mostly a failure, an Sboat sinks one PB, and a few damaged cargo ships striking Malaya, plus the the normal lost midgets. Heavy losses among Allied fighters everywhere...French in China are tough initially in the air.

Pretty fun so far, and nothing spotted. Soon, the real fireworks will begin.

Dec 11, 1943 test game with Commander Cody

The Yankee Navy in and around Pearl is simply getting pummelled by the enhanced KB. This is two super BB in that task force.

In the AM, the Lex and Enterprise launch a 7 hex strike...with massive losses and no hits. The KB splits there attacks all over, but does deadly execution.

Meanwhile a BC force is slugging it out on the surface around Pearl, Mersing falls and Jolo, Rabaul invaded. Heavy sweeps of Singers and Manila...Allied plane losses horrendous. Nothing can stand in front of this Japanese Juggernaut.

I agree.

Bad luck with Lady Lex and Enterprise. I was hunting the fleeing BBs, but thought there might be a chance of running into your carriers.

I just don't see how the Allies can stop the land juggernaut that is Japan early on...more fireworks on the way. I am somewhat taking my time.

Not to mention all the great air frames Japan can get, and early too. Japan can easily get the Karyu by mid to late 43 I think due to the strange upgrade path.

December 13th 1943

Allies lose Rabaul; Jolo; Victoria Point and several other bases. Lower Luzon invaded. Two chinese corps trashed; a Yank BB, AE, AV, and many others go down.

Singers swept, AF bombed, Manila swept but Allies still have some fighters there, but the end is nigh with all the northern Luzon bases in Japanese hands and a landing at Legsapi, and Jolo taken.

In one day the railway to Singers will be cut. So a delayed Mersing gambit, stage 2 is already underway.

Force Z spotted at Soerabaja, the Allies are still strong in the DEI not having lost anything bigger than a destroyer, yet in that theatre.

Japan - add one very large AE that can reload the big 18" guns. Once she is sunk, then Japan will have to resort back to historical ways to reload the Yamato's.

Boost the loading capability of a base with naval support?

There are a half dozen or more Ironman Engineering units that spawn all over the place with decent Naval support...I will post a picture later of them.

Just discovered the Nick E version: Nightfighter with radar in late 44. An Army night fighter with radar...woo hoo!

Here are the Ironman engineering units....pretty nice perk.

It takes 1100+ naval support plus a level 6 port to rearm the Yamoto which is pretty much not going to happen, or 188 (I recall) and a level 7 port.

Can reload at Cam Ranh Bay, Truk, Shanghai, Port Arthur and Fusan plus the HI. So getting the beasties reloaded isn't too much of a problem, but it would be cool to have a 7000 supply AKE floating around.

I am wondering if I've come across a bug or a WAD. In every squadron I have set to 100% training, only skills are going up, not experience. For instance, a fighter squadron in CONUS with 100% escort training at zero range has seen zero advancement in pilot EXP in 5 days, but AIR is going up per usual. This is in a Focus Pacific game with the official patch.

Also, the second update for the two Gascoigne BBs requires the same length of time as the first update (something over 100 days going from memory).

Cheers,
CC

I believe that the training situation is normal - pilot skill increasing when training at a much faster pace than any experience gains, with no experience gains after 50 - however the Gascoigne situation is a stupid error on my part.

I'm uploading a new version of the SCEN files with this issue fixed tonight - thanks for the catch!

Updating to the new SCEN files should fix the long 2nd upgrade situation in your game.

Allies start getting some licks in, we are now around Dec 14, 1943.

Hong Kong has been attack once, Guam three times, but they still hold out. Singers cut off, but almost all the British troops have made it back before the road was cut...wouldn't have happened if I did a first turn.

Palembang invasion force assembling, 1 day out of Palembang now. I wanted to get to Palembang fairly quickly, since the Dutch are enhanced in this game, and it can be a tough base to get. Currently there are 4 units there defending, but with about 8K troops.

Japan lost a destroyer to a mine at Balikpapen, another to a PT boat off the northwestern Luzon. 4 PB boats lost to the a squadron led by those 43 knot French destroyers working out of Manila, cool ships, they are then strafed by a sentai of Zeroes taking a few 60kg penetrating hits.

Bombers from Singers hit the ships unloading at Mersing, instead of the Palembang invasion, and although there are 8 Rufes there flying cap, most planes fly right by...and Japan loses 4 or so xaks (no troops lost).

Allied subs are in position and shooting, mostly misses or duds so far.

Yanks have taken a beating in the CentPac losing 3-4BB, 2CV, a number of CA/CL and Destroyers to the KB. This was the first turn the KB from Pearl launched no strikes.

Lots of fun so far -- at least for Japan. Still getting a handle on the planes and upgrades. Major plans are in the works for some surprises come Jan, 42.
