As suggested by Larry, I am starting a second TGW AAR.

Overall battle plan - Secure Leningrad as soon as possible, press onto Moscow with AGN and AGC. AGS and allies, press on to Rostov. All attacks in the 4 opening turns were conducted on "limited losses" settings.

Turn 4 overview of the battle front.

AGN - Elements of the 41st PzKorps just captured Narva lead by the 6th Panzer and 36th Motorized Division. Both units are resting and waiting for addtional forces to press the attack to Leningrad.

AGC - Captured Minsk last week, and clearing the rest of the defenders east of the city, and press towards Moscow.

AGS - Pushing forward with all forces, clearing out the initial defenders, along with the Romanians pressing towards Odessa.

Air support - All fighters are on AS, and all other air groups are on Interdiction missions.
Current Air Superiority strength is at 40, and Soviet AS is at 2.
Current Interdiction level is 1%, and enemy interdiction is zero.

Battlefront overview - Turn 6, 27JUL41.

AGN - infantry re-enforcements have arrived at Narva and taken the lead on the thrust forward, while the Panzer troops take a breather. This spearhead is over 800 km's away from its jump off points 4 weeks ago. Supply levels are mid 30's for the panzer and motorized divisions. Addition effort is being pushed to take Pskov and secure the right flank with the lake Lagoda.

AGC - Less than 50 km from Orsha on the central highway. Also, 8th Panzer took and held Velikiye Luki, helping secure the left flank of the center thrust.

AGS - Progress is being made on the push forward, Soviet forces are breaking down, and inroads are being made on the south end of the line. The goal is to push forward and lock in the Soviet forces engaged with 11th Army and the Rumanian forces pushing on Odessa.

Turn 7, AUG'41, AGS has finally got the machine rolling forward. Multiple breaks in the Soviet line have allowed pressing forward. 11th Army and Rumanian forces are pushing north as well to put pressure on the Soviet reinforcements.

Operational battlefront view.

AGN - Spearhead is within the Leningrad city limits. Infantry divisions are pressing forward.

AGC - Spearhead is pressing on to Smolensk, and covering the flanks as forward ground is taken.

AGS - Spearhead has broken out of initial battle lines and pressing forward. Rumanian forces have surrounded Odessa, and begun siege attacks.

Special Operations group 800 has stormed the airfield at Sumy with the intentions of commandeering any and all available aircraft to fly back to friendly held ground. Unit is just under 50% supply from it's run through the enemy rear areas tearing up rail and destroying bridges.

Soviet Air Force is starting to wake up, might be a bumpy ride home.

Ok, so, I found the better destroyed bridge icon.. See below pic.

But,
Bridge is destroyed but the rail line is intact.. Shouldn't both be destroyed due to the bridge being out?
If the rail line was destroyed, it would show, "broken rail" also.

I think so. How could the railroad go across if the bridge is down. Congratulations on finding the
better destroyed bridge icon. You did better than I did. I looked around and couldn't find it.

Mid way through turn 8, and I turned up the heat on the soviet air force. I noticed last turn
they were pulling off some interdiction missions, so I put my bombers over to Combat Support to help
the ground forces make some punches in the Soviet lines. Needless to say, I knocked the Soviet
AS effort down a few notches...

BF109's and ME-110' hammering in. The ground forces are happy with the air support. Of course
my flyboys are a bit tired now, but gotta keep the Soviets on their heels.

Rumanian forces lead by AG Antonescu take Odessa with the help of allied bombers eliminating all of the
Soviet defenders. Axis now has a deep water port in the black sea, AGS Commanders have
requested the Kreigsmarine to divert some fleet assets from the Med to this theater for support
and transport.

AGN progress, lead elements spearheaded by the 1st Panzer Division have moved to within 30km's
of Leningrad city center. With the onset of evening, battle operations have been halted, troops are digging
in and waiting for the order to assault in the AM.

FYI -

So, I interrupted Elmer's turn to check the destroyed bridge / rail issue.. and it turns out, the rail shows good, but when
the unit was "embarked", I couldn't rail across the destroyed bridge.

-Vess

EDIT: Mistyped... couldn't rail across the rail, even though it shows good rail.

So the Road bridge is down but the Rail bridge is still up? There's one for the history books.

At some places there were Road Bridges and Rail Bridges. Arnhem for example.

Still, in TOAW blowing one will blow the other as long as they are in the same hex. So it looks like there is a graphics issue somewhere.

Operational Battlefront view, 24AUG41.

AGN - Tightening the ring around Leningrad.

AGC - More Soviet resistance to starting to show up, battered units are being thrown in front of the German advance.

AGS - Striking deeper into the south with little resistance to speak of.

How about a synopsis of their mission. I'm thinking that they are so far in front of the advance that
whatever they could be doing might not be the best thing that they could do right now. Not that
it's definately a bad idea to be that far out front, I'd just like a picture tour of that unit and what it's
doing. Curious. Enquiring minds want to know. I hope their mission is worth the cost if they are
lost.

EDIT: It just occurs to me that I don't always explain my paradrops either. My appologies to my
readers.

Larry, I think you are tired. I did post their drop earlier in the thread, and their movement in the enemies rear areas. And then they decided to storm the airfield at Sumy. They waited for some crazy Luftwaffe pilots to come pick them up and
bring them home. They are safely back behind the front lines now.

AGC update ---

Operation Thor's Hammer has been initiated, forces are being moved into position to strike
into Moscow.

There is a widening gap east of Velikiye Luki and north of the Smolensk-Moscow highway.

Forces tasked with pressing into Moscow -
46th PzK (10th PzDiv)
57th PzK (19th & 12th PzDiv)
39th PzK (7th & 20th PzDiv)

5th AK (106th Inf Div only)
53rd AK (52nd, 95th, 293rd Inf Div)
50th AK (86th & Polizei Inf Div)
35th AK (15th, 112th, 197th Inf Div)
7th AK (7th, 23rd, 258th, 268th Inf Div)

OKH is hoping the Soviet's have not see the gap in the line, and are expected to take Moscow
in force by mid October. They are hoping that the weather holds out for a successful operation.
