France has allied with Germany and moved to help save Berlin with an air attack on some of the lead armor elements of the Soviet thrust. France also attacked on a narrow front into Soviet controlled Turkey from Syria.
In the grasping at straws department, the British achieved a minor success in sinking an American Transport convey. The US infantry unit it was transporting was destroyed. Also, the British have put men ashore in Scandinavia. It remains to be seen if they are able to stay there.

So many interesting developments in this conflict. We are not going to bother with detailed butcher's bills.

The USA reacted to the major landing in Scandinavia, and we hope to bring our naval resources to bear on this landing. The USN engaged French and British carrier forces successfully sinking three fleet and three light carriers. Significant numbers of submarines were sunk too.

In the Far East New Guinea was taken as US forces build up for an assault on Australia. Singapore was bombed, as was Makassar.

China drove significant armor to the outskirts of Mandalay.

The British and French are putting up an active defense and we are impressed at their toughness.

The United States, and China, will wait till the offers of alliance arrive in Peking and Washington.

In any case the Anglo-French forces are at war with the USA and China, so even without an alliance Soviet troops are under far less pressure than they might be.

The United States and China continue to wage bloody war against the French and British.

The US commands in Scandinavia pushed all the British off shore. In the Pacific Port Moresby, Guadalcanal, and Espirtu Santo are all controlled by the USA. Townsville in Australia was subjected to an air assault. Singapore was also under air attack.

China is pressing down the peninsula towards Singapore, and is getting close. China took Mandalay, and their armor is poised to fight into India.

On the diplomatic front the USA and China both declined Soviet offers of alliance. We are at peace with the Soviet Union and share common enemies, but we do not feel an alliance at this time makes sense for us, or the Soviets. We wish them no ill.

Italy March 1942

The Soviets smash through the Carpathian mountains defense line, to the north all Soviet forces west of Danzig have been destroyed. Fresh Soviet forces are concentrating to the East of the City. The French begin to make their presence felt with air and artillery attacks, giving extra muscle and sinew to the reviving Germans.

War Department, United States of America

The armed forces were busy on many fronts. The Navy is sailing into the North Sea, challenging the Royal Navy. Off the
coast of Africa the Navy has attacked all enemy forces challenging Liberia. In the Pacific Singapore was bombed, and
the USN supported an assault on Townsville, Australia. American forces, strong as they are, are being pushed by so
much activity.

Chinese Joint Staffs

China has driven the British onto the Island at Singapore.

China's armored forces have pushed into India, taking Dacca, and beyond. It will be interesting to see the effect on
the British. The RAF has quality formations, but they a badly outnumbered by the powerful Chinese air forces.

The Italian armored formations and artillery begin to arrive from the North and start to stabilize the Italian southern Front, the Germans have the New Tiger I a fearsome beast that will help push back the Soviet hordes. United States Joint Chiefs
Chinese Combined Command

The War in European waters sees large scale battles, with the USN pouring forces into the North Sea where the Royal
Navy stands to defend the British Isles. In Africa the Unites States 17th Army pushes outward taking Freetown. With
the seas cleared the USA is pouring forces into Africa including armor, and the British and French will have their
hands full.

USN surface forces bombarded Brisbane, Townsville was reinforced, with significant losses to the RAF. The USN struck
hard at Singapore, and the Chinese took the port. China also took Calcutta, and is pushing deeper into India. China
is remarkably strong.

The Italians retake the lost Carpathian mountains stabilizing the front and Pushing the Soviets back. The IS2 Soviet Heavy Tank has made a appearance not yet in combat but Italian intelligence believe it will lead the next Soviet Offensive. So the front remains the same but the combat weapons are changing.

In the post above the United States meant to state that the RAF caused losses to American shipping to Australia. It could easily be read as losses inflicted on the RAF which was not the case.

The Italians are turning to the offensive the Soviets are implacable, so the Italians have no choice but to take the fight to them. The Germans and French to our North scored notable victories against the Red army Danzig is firmly back in German hands, the British have made available the best European fighter the Spitfire X, the tide is turning in favor of Europe.

Naval battles raged in the North Sea and along the western coastline of Ireland this turn. The British sank 2 USN BB's, 3 DD's, 18 SS's while losing 5 DD's and 9 SS's. Some of those Subs were sunk off the Norwegian coast and were both USN and Soviet Navy. However the RAF lost 13 aircraft of various types, even with the appearance of increasing numbers of Spitfire V.

The United States and China had another successful month of warfare. The USA made significant gains in Australia,
capturing Brisbane. US amphibious forces helped take Timor, and the softening up continues all over Indonesia. The
French and British may be noticing supply concerns as more territory is lost or blockaded.

In Europe for some reason the Germans are allowing Britain and France to bombard Copenhagen from German soil. The
USA has been scrupulous about maintaining peace with Germany ever since the end of our war. Perhaps Italy can have
a word with the Germans, British and French about the consequences of forcing the USA and China to declare war in
order to prevent the cowardly firing on Copenhagen from "safe" enclaves in German territory.

The USN destroyed more than 44 subs, and the Chinese sank a BB3, 3DD2 and a DD1. The RN and French Navy will soon have
to deal with even more naval power. Forces which are no longer scheduled for the Pacific and Indian Oceans are on
the way to the Atlantic.

In Africa more ports and cities are falling to US attacks. Formations rumble by the Italian held West African posses-
sions, currently honoring the border, but ready to swing west if war comes over the Copenhagen attacks. Air attacks
on French West Africa have softened the French up near Casablanca. The American armies in Africa are powerful, and
becoming stronger every month.

Here is a map of Chinese progress in India :

The Italians broke through Soviets defenders Destroying some 350 T34(1943) not bad as we are still in 1942 a tank ahead of its time, 50 IS2's as well as other assorted AFV's they moved forward to find almost no Soviet reserves between the Italians and Kiev the Italians will press this advantage next month.

A clarification for people not used to the GD 1938 research system: You are allowed to research a certain amount of techs ahead of their historical time. The setting currently is around 2 years ahead of the times will be available, for research. So that is why a T34 of 1943 design would be available in 1942.

The United States was surprised that the Germans continued to allow the British and French to attack from German
territory, but we rationalized the situation by declaring war on Germany and Italy. Other than some Italian losses
in Africa there was little fighting between the Axis and the USA. Massive naval battles in the North Sea as Royal Navy
submarines were tracked down. There are still subs to be attacked there next month.

Africa and Australia were both scenes of American advances. Carrier air struck at Italian, French and British forces
in the Iberian peninsula.

Norwegian naval infantry raided Scotland and captured an aircraft factory.

August 17th, 1942

The United States Navy had some success against the Royal Navy, but was shocked at the strength of the Kriegsmarine. A very powerful force of U-boats and surface ships sortied and the USN took up a defensive posture in response. The RN and KM will be a major challenge as many of our forces are far away in the Pacific. This shapes up to be the naval battle of the century.

The U.S. Army continues to pester the British and French in Africa. The lack of infrastructure is causing things to move slowly here, but eventually we will make our presence felt. As the Japanese commented about South America, there just is not much in Africa. Still it represents the stripping of the Commonwealth from Great Britain. The British have lost Canada. In Australia, Sydney is under assault by U.S. forces, and we expect it to fall next month. The other Australian cities are items on the American agenda. India is nearly conquered by the Chinese, Singapore and most of the Indies have fallen, and the Middle East is threatened. The British Empire is being dismantled.

The question must be asked : was the declaration of war on Germany and Italy a mistake. It seems the answer is "Yes". We underestimated the power of these nations. The Soviet Union is also under pressure from the four powers, and has asked us for increased aid. In response China has allied itself with the USSR and is sending forces west to help the Red Army. The USA is not allied yet to the Soviet Union, but will do so when appropriate. Three powers versus four powers in a war for the world.

14 Sep 1942

The huge naval battles in British waters have seen massive losses in the Royal Navy surface forces. The Kriegsmarine also has suffered significant losses in surface forces, and their massive fleet off Ireland is surrounded by USN forces. They are powerful and may be able to fight their way out, but the USN is no longer on the defensive. The USN carrier task forces are arriving, and they are just getting stronger. The USN took losses of course, but we can certainly afford them if the gains come.

In Africa the US Army is pushing forward and construction brigades are filling in infrastructure. The road net being built will change the future of Africa. Casablanca was bombed, and armor attacked the forces in the city. We are not that far from the straits. The Italians may have to bring some of their superior armor from the East Front to defend Spain. As US Army units are brought east from the States the force in Africa will have interesting strategic paths to consider. North to Spain is one, east to Alexandria another. The second option includes the possibility of linking with the Chinese pushing west. Of Course this will take significant time.

China pushes west past India. We intend to drive through to the Middle East.

The Chinese had to send a letter to the Soviets asking them to withdraw troops from the Far East. There are too many Red Army tank formations near the Chinese lines when we feel they should be facing the Germans and Italians. China is not very comfortable with the Soviet alliance and may have to break it. If the Chinese must do this they will promptly offer peace to the Soviets, and we will fight side by side again without an alliance.
