Should say the tanks parked in Britain are fine, but they had to decommission the gun barrel. We do still have arms control!

Well, if you did not have arms control, then they might just flap around and your could injure yourself!

Well, that's hardly enlightening. I usually am.

Which reminds me - what turn are you up to with Steve?

???

I'm only in one PBEM ATM. That one is against Darryl (aka "AcePylut"). We are into December 1942, nearly a year into the war.

More important, how is Steve feeling?

Steve is doin' fine. I think. He's an exceptional opponent. Including in the fact that his survival is an exception to the rule of my 1:1 PBEM opponents. I still say it's because the small scenario battles that we had and the furtive 2x2 PBEM exposed him in small doses and thus immunized him to CBV.

To bring back some memories:

Bottom of the ninth, the score is 4-3, there are two outs with a runner on first. The ninth batter in the lineup is next but a player who was not even introduced before the game comes out to bat. The batter is injured and has difficulty walking . . .

Don't even need to see the link.... Kirk Gibson.... WS Game 1, I think, 1988.

That game sucked.

GO OAKLAND A's!

Another reason not to like the Vikings...

'Vikings had smallpox and may have helped spread the world's deadliest virus' https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-07-vikings-smallpox-world-deadliest-virus.html

Not to mention Hansen's disease. The red squirrels in Denmark had the bacteria for that and Denmark was the sources of the red squirrel fur that was the fashion at the time.

As far as I know, Denmark has had practically nothing to do with Hansen's disease. Except, of course, Hansen himself who discovered the cause of the disease.

And I though that smallpox didn't exist in Scandinavia during the Viking age. I will check out the article later. More important things to do now. Like my move in MWIF.

His antibodies are worth a lot. You owe it to your next opponent to collect & transfuse from Steve.

I've heard physicians use the colloquialism 'put to sleep' in the context of providing anaesthesia sufficient to render temporary unconsciousness for a procedure. Of course, that has a very different context in the veterinary field.

Zilch-when veterinarians use the term 'collect', they are thinking of something entirely unrelated to blood products. Steve's a nice guy and all, but I ain't gonna 'collect' from him.

It is not a good morning when the humidity detector goes off and you can't get it to stop.

Well, dude, could that be because-you know-it's still really freakin' humid there and the detector is doin' its job?

ETA: Also, what's the point of an alarm for humidity? This time of year? That puppy would be goin' off 24/7 in 90% of the country right about now.

ETA II: It's about to get a whole lot more 'humid' down here later today. Corpus Christi especially.

Well, it is supposed to go off when you burn toast or when dinner is ready. But this one is wired into the apartment's electrical system. So I have a difficult time turning it off. It's actual job is not to detect humidity but byproducts of a fire.

And yes, I know just how cool and dry that it gets in Central Texass!

He did. And he was Norwegian. I was just to lazy and use Denmark since it was mentioned. I am sorry about that.

Besides, it is practically the same thing.

Thank you, Zorch, for the information.

I do however feel the headline is very misleading since the article author have no idea on how deadly this strain of smallpox were.
