Great masculine pole, but what is the big circle in the center for?

EDIT: UNP!

I saw three small funnel clouds drop then ascend into the one cloud over a city. No harm, no foul, but the Tornado Siren went off. No one really ran and hid.

Another time at a university, a storm came through and three tornadoes were just starting to form. Imagine a circular wall like the sides of a bowl dropping from the cloud and that is what they looked like. A town about 30 miles or 50 kilometers away had three small tornadoes in the area.

Where I like now, we might get a weak F2 tornado but that is about it. Once a weak, however, the ground shakes.

I think I know the formation you saw ...

Actually, when I saw the tornadoes forming that hit near the town 30 miles or 50 kilometers away, I looked almost straight up. It looked like a large stainless steel bowl spinning and coming down from the cloud base.

The three funnel clouds that I saw another time had the classic funnel shape but were small and went back up almost immediately.

Great masculine pole, but what is the big circle in the center for?

The origins, and reasons, for the pole is lost in time. There is proof that the maypole has been in use in Sweden since the 14th century (possibly earlier). Mostly due to laws forbidding the festivities that took place surrounding the pole. The cross-bar was likely added in an attempt to placate the Christian Church in Sweden. The suggestion that the pole had something to do with masculinity was suggested in the 18th, and 19th, century, but has been debunked. The theory that it symbolises a three is still alive.

There is a huge variation on how the maypoles are dressed according to local traditions.

It is likely that the maypole immigrated from Germany.

And, to answer your question; no one knows what the big circle in the centre is for. Maybe to make the pole look prettier? Maybe they added a circle in the medieval times to symbolize the roundness of the world? (Most poles in Sweden nowdays has abandoned the central circle)

The festivities do have a lot of activates for children. And, I suspect, that a lot of children are made during this night. And I know that many guys, and girls, are very happy this night.

I am to old for some of the tradtions. Like skinny dipping in the middle of the night. By that time I am usually asleep.

You are never too old for some things.

Cary Grant became a father at age 72 and Tony Randal had two daughters in his 80's.

Good morning!

Humid this morning, rain later which is a good thing - we need to fill up the swamps with water!

Yea. I was the target for such an attack once. Or so I was told. I only felt the attack as all the claws were sunk into my back.
