I am playing the standard Williamsburg scenario as the Confederates. I have tried giving the subject movement orders to a number of the brigade commanders as explained under 6.6.3 of the manual (click on the radius toggle and left click while holding down the CTRL key). The brigade commander will move but the brigade regiments do not move.

What am I missing here

Great question. I just thought the command radius toggle showed the range that the commander is in command of his units. I wonder if the manual is incorrect.

I hope we get an answer. I would also love to know how this works.

I believe, in addition to clicking on the command radius button, you must click on a hex beyond the movement range of the commander, in order to get the whole brigade to move.

I advise doing such long-range brigade movements in stages, if you have a really long way to go. For instance if there will be a bridge of two on the way, move the brigade up to the bridge in one long-range movement, then across either manually or in another long-range move.

To get the hang of it, startup another scenario besides the one you're actually playing, and fiddle around with it in various ways.

i've played 200+ battles so far and still counting, and tbh never used it apart from testing it, i like to move single units so most of the time i know where they are going to be at end of turn, yes takes a lot more time, but adds no end imo to the immersion and feeling of the battles played, and tbh even in the biggest ones, doesn't take 5 mins to move even the biggest army per turn once your used to it.

I wonder why they have this limitation, of having to click past the commander range before all the brigades will move together. What if you don't want to move so far, but still want to take advantage of this group move?

Yes, I believe the interface only issues a long-range move order if you CTRL-click on a hex that is outside the area at which the currently selected unit can move. I think this limitation is because originally we didn't have long-range moves with the CTRL key -- they simply happened when you clicked outside the movement area of a unit. However players were frequently issuing long-range movement orders by mistake, so we added the CTRL key as a way of making mistakes less likely, however we didn't change the test to see whether the click was outside the movement area. But I don't see any reason why we couldn't change this, and I'll look into it for our next update.
