Report to The War College

Regrading Allied Strengths, Vulnerability, and Fly-fishing

As of March 15, 1942

Opening Note

The following consists of a brief report regarding the Allies strengths and vulnerability on this ninety-ninth (99th) day of hostilities with Japan.

Most of what the Allies have done, has been done for two main purposes:

1.) Run from the enemy to give the Evil Empire less targets to destroy thereby conserving war assets for future engagements.

2.) Preparation toward the Allied tentative Grand Strategy which consists of the following two Offensives:

-Operation Land Shark: Pushing through Burma, China, Manchukuo (to trigger the Russians), and Korea (to bomb Japan proper).

-Operation Sea Shark: Pushing West from Pearl Harbor through the Marianas Islands, Ulithi, Yap, Babeldaob, and then North to the Bonin Islands and Formosa thereby eventually blockading Japan Proper from receiving needed oil, supply, and resources.

At this stage of the War, I think Japan can do as it damn well pleases anywhere on the map. Having said that, the Allies relative strengths and vulnerabilities are forth herein as follows.

Strengths

India

Short of Japan throwing a vast majority of their war machine at India, I think it is too late for Japan to conquer much ground in India.

The Allied build-up in India with troops and aircraft has been substantial and is proceeding as scheduled.

The Allies will be in a position prior to October 15, 1942 to launch Operation Land Shark to take back Burma and head for points Eastward.

Australia

After having bought out all Australian Armor to I Australia Corps and transporting the same to India, Australia was in an extremely weak position. However now, U.S. Army and Marines have landed and are gaining strength on almost a daily basis. Presently, Australia is in a position to put up a fight, and more U.S. Army and Marines are in route to Australia. Another thirty (30) days and Australia will become almost as secure as India.

Tahiti

As many of you may be aware, Tahiti is the main mid-link to the supply line running from the U.S. West Coast to Australia. Tahiti has been stuffed with supply and fuel. The port, air base, and fort have developed nicely. The present ground force has substantial AA and a division size ground force. Tahiti needs more aircraft and plans are underway to get more aircraft to Tahiti.

Gulf of Alaska

The Allies have built-up Anchorage, Whittier, Seward, Kodiak Island, and Prince Rupert. Ports, air bases, and forts have developed slower than anticipated (especially Anchorage) despite construction regiments having been shipped to the Gulf of Alaska. Each of these five bases have an Assault Value close to or a little over 200. The Gulf of Alaska is far from being impregnable. However, should El Lobo set his sights on any of these five (5) bases, hopefully by then, the Allies will be in a position to send additional support to the Gulf.

Vulnerabilities

Basically anywhere Japan chooses to go!

Ceylon

Other than the troops that started the war on Ceylon and the few scheduled reinforcements that arrived on Ceylon, the Allies have not built up Ceylon. It is ripe for Japanese pickings.

Bombay Fleet

Excluding war ships located at Pearl Harbor and submarines, the vast majority of the balance of war ships are located at Bombay. I am concerned about a KB raid of Bombay and watching the devastation that would ensue. I am seriously considering moving the Bombay Fleet to Karachi.

Pearl Harbor

The allies have pretty much stripped Pearl Harbor of all Infantry Regiments. Though Pearl Harbor has substantial war ships in port and substantial aircraft, it's ground strength could be considered even less than minimal. Something must be done about this and soon. I am challenging all War College Members to get out there recruiting to muster a heap of new infantry to send to Pearl considering right now there isn't anything to send to Pearl. *laughing hard*

Should Pearl be on El Lobo's agenda, Pearl will fall and fall fast. A risk I have taken to stuff India, Australia, Tahiti, and the Gulf of Alaska.

Fly-fishing

Fly-fishing around Lake Taupo, New Zealand has been excellent!

End Note

That is the sorry state of affairs. Let's hope El Lobo's next major invasion is India.

Best Regards,

-Terry

There are only two ways for the Russians to activate before August 1945:
- Japan violates Russian territory - this can be as simple as a recon flight or a full scale invasion.
- Japan removes so much AV from Manchukuo that less than 8000 is left, and a die roll results in Stalin's hunger for territory exceeding his good sense.

About Tahiti - isolated bases are ripe targets for the Japanese - at least until their invasion bonus is up on April 01. Any base considered "key" should have a couple of satellite bases to give it some depth of defence.

Are you really fly fishing in NZ? I was touring the two main islands last February. Lovely, unspoiled country, friendly people! Strong UV rays!

BBfanboy-

Activating Russian

My plan is to invade Manchukuo, destroy the Japanese, reduce the Manchukuo Japanese Garrison below 8,000 AV, and thereby trigger an early chance for the Russians to enter the war.

Fly-fishing New Zealand

Several years back, the company I worked for transferred me to perform work on the Pacific Rim Basin. I was based in Brisbane for two years and extensively traveled the Pacific Rim. I had business in Auckland a few times. I would always time the business to end by the weekend. I would stay over in New Zealand on the weekends, rent a car, and head south to fly-fish the Lake Taupo area. And, I agree, New Zealand is gorgeous, unspoiled country with wonderful people.

Tahiti

Tahiti is very isolated. One reason I didn't want to place more ground forces there than I have. Yet, I wanted to make it somewhat difficult for El Lobo to grab. Presently, if El Lobo wants Tahiti, he will have to make a major effort to take Tahiti. I seriously doubt that El Lobo will wish to expand his Evil Empire as far as Tahiti.

I have dropped off a couple battalions on neighboring islands. I intend to build-up the ports, airbases, and forts on those islands once I have Tahiti where I want it to be. Right now, I just don't have any additional troops to spare.

The Tahiti port is at 4 (58%); the airbase only a 1; and the fort is at 4 (26%).

Here is a screenshot of the troops in Tahiti (add to the list: Bobcats USN SeaBees, C Det USN Port Service, and the Tahiti Infantry Detachment.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Correction Regarding Tahiti

The screenshot showing the Tahiti Garrison shows the Bobcats, etc.

Add to that list the following: 1/198Coast AA Bn; 114 USAAF BF; and 115 USAAF BF.

Sorry about the error.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Where Will El Lobo Strike Next?

Batavia and Clark Field have fallen into enemy hands. Capturing those two bases has freed up substantial Japanese ground forces. Where will El Lobo send those ground forces?

Considering the Evil Empire recently captured Port Blair, I think he will soon invade Burma. His troops took a bit of a beating at Batavia and at Clark Field. Accordingly, it will take him a few days to get those troops back up to fighting strength. And then, of course, he needs to load them up and ship them off to land on Burma turf. Consequently, I do anticipate seeing Japanese in Burma towards the end of this month (i.e. March, 1942).

I think El Lobo will also continue his push south; invading Port Moresby and Rabaul.

It is going to be interesting to find out if my predictions are correct or if El Lobo has other plans in mind!

Best Regards,

-Terry

pontiouspilot-

Probably a good idea. I will switch the ground forces to combat on March 26, 1942.

The Allies will receive two U.S. Army Regiments and two USMC Regiments within the next thirty days. I was thinking of either sending them to Pearl, or sending one Army Regiment to Cold Harbor; the other Army Regiment to Adak Island; and perhaps invading Marcus Island with the two USMC Regiments (El Lobo doesn't have anything on Marcus Island that my recon can see).

Thank you for your advice.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Month End Situation Report

as of

March 31, 1942

The Philippines

The Allies hold only Bataan and it is highly likely that Bataan will fall with the next Japanese Deliberate attack.

Mindanao

Completely within the war mongering Japanese.

North Borneo

Completely within the greedy hands of the Japanese.

Sarawak

The Allies hold only Kuching.

Borneo

The Allies hold Pontianak, Ketapang, Sampit, and Bandjermasin.

The Celebs

The Japanese control Manado and Donggala.

Moluccas, Dutch New Guinea, N. E. New Guinea, Papua, New Britain, the Solomons, New Hebrides, New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tahiti

Remain untouched by the Rising Red Sun.

Malaya

The Allies only hold Clark Field which is likely to fall upon the Japanese next deliberate attack.

Sumatra

The Allies hold Langsa, Sibola, and Padang.

Java

The Allies hold Soerabaja and Malang, and everything Southeast to the Timor and Arafura Seas.

Alaska and the Aleutian Islands

The Allies have built-up Anchorage, Whittier, Seward, and Kodiak Island. A Base Force, Construction Engineer, AA unit, and U.S. Army Regiment is in route to garrison Dutch Harbor.

Within the next twenty (20) days, the Allies intend to garrison Adak Island with a force similar to the one presently heading to Dutch Harbor.

To date, the Japanese have not touched the Aleutians nor Alaska.

Midway, Wake, Pearl Harbor, Johnston Island, Palmyra, Christmas Island, Baker, Canton, and Pago Pago

All within Allied control.

China

The Japanese are pushing West. The Japanese have cut the Burma-Chungking supply route and have advanced to and control Paoshan.

The Japanese only have armor at Lanchow. The Chinese are holding on in Lanchow.

The Chinese solely control Tienshui.

Furious fighting on a daily basis occurs in the mountain hex South of Tienshui. The Chinese have been tough and are bashing the Japanese. So far supply is good, but supply is dwindling.

Once the Japanese push the chinese out of the mountain hex South of Tienshui, Kienko is the next likely target. Kienko has an Assault Value of 2,600, but barely enough supply to support a single corps.

Chungking has an Assault Value of 4,700 and is presently fully supplied.

Burma

The Allies have fully evacuated Burma, but to date, the Japanese have not entered Burma.

India

Completely within the control of the Allies. The Allies are very strong in India. Within a few days, I will present a more thorough report to The War College regarding India.

Australia

Completely within the control of the Allies. The Allies are growing stronger in Australia. Within a few days, I will present a more thorough report to the War College regarding Australia.

The Strategic Map follows.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Just curious. In one of the screen shots above, you show many units receiving upgrades and replacements at Pearl. Are your replacement pools deep enough to fill out these units? Reason I ask is that you might want to selectively target units (perhaps you have and its just this screen shot that seems odd) for replaces and upgrades at this time as you could find pools empty when you want to upgrade key combat/frontline units. Looks like a lot of non-combat units on that list. I'd understand the replacements as many US base forces and AA units are understrength at the start of the game, but are you sure you want these units to upgrade too?
