The Emperor of the Rising Sun is Thinking

The Allies returned Turn 656 to El Lobo on October 11, 2017. El Lobo has not sent Turn 657.

I think the Allied landings at Takao, Formosa, Pescadores, and Amoy, China have given El Lobo a lot to think about.

At this point, I am not sure when El Lobo will return Turn 657.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Maybe egress through South China Sea?? That might avoid the confrontation...if that's what you would prefer.

pontiouspilot-

I don't think that egressing through the South China Sea would be the best route for the Invasion Fleet to return home. It would just take longer. The problem is that El Lobo could just track down the Fleet as it will be moving slow due to the speed of the transports.

Though I would prefer to fight his carriers down the waves of time, without being encumbered by protecting transports, if El Lobo wants a sea battle now, he won't get away unscathed.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Transports often work as bomb magnets, so in a CV vs CV battle some of his strike might go for the transports and leave your CVs alone to smack him down ...
Many of the smackdowns of KB that I have seen in AARs happen when KB is busy attacking a transport force and the Allied CVs get in the first strike unhindered - shades of Midway!

The British R class and the California are heavily damaged and a long way from home, will you disband them in a port you capture and hope the pump out some flooding before attempting to send them the long way to a repair facility?

Pescadores has a shipyard but it may not have been expanded enough to take a BB.

It is always dicey to port damaged ships or repair them well within bombing range of your opponent.

Agreed, but he does have carrier cover and presumably brought some fighters he can put to work on land.

Progress Report

Regarding

El Lobo's Vacation

El Lobo arrived at my home on September 22rd. We smoked weed, drank 3/4 of a bottle of tequila, caught-up on what each of us had been doing the past year since his last visit, and laughed until we went to bed around 4:30 a.m.

The next few days we alternated days between no intoxicants to being hammered.

Neither El Lobo nor myself experienced a hangover. However, the worst was still to come.

Captain Haggard arrived around 3:00 p.m. on September 29th. Within fifteen minutes, Captain Haggard had a glass of red wine in hand and ushered us out onto the back deck. We quickly resolved all the current World Affair problems to efficiently dispose of such trivial matters so that we could concentrate on important matters such as smoking weed, drinking wine, shooting shots of tequila, trash talking each other and all of you, and laughing to the point that at times it took a while to complete any given sentence. Captain Haggard managed to cook and serve us a three course dinner over a three or four hour period commencing around 7:00 p.m. (we were already a bit hammered). The first course was salmon seasoned over a four day period and I believe crème cheese on some sort of dark Rye bread. About 90 minutes later, Hag served us shrimp crab-cakes with his own concocted sauce (We were substantially hammered). About 90 minutes later, Hag served us filet mignons with a salad made by the Adjutant (Hag's wife) and transported to Grass Valley via a Hellcat (we were completely destroyed). El Lobo and Captain Haggard emptied 3 1/2 bottles of wine, El Lobo had a shot of tequila from the fresh bottle Hag had brought for us, and I finished draining the tequila past the half-way point. El Lobo and I also smoked weed. We went to bed at around sunup at which time Hag was struggling to open the closet door by the front door of my home. "I asked, "What are you doing?" Hag replied, "Going to bed." I said, "You might try the back bedroom."

Last night, El Lobo and Captain Haggard said they got quite happy emptying a bottle of Sake. I smoked a bit of weed. We crashed relatively early, about 1:00 a.m.

Captain Haggard left this morning around 9:00 a.m. El Lobo will head back to the Bay Area on October 4th and he flies back to Thailand (his home) on October 6th.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Bif-

I haven't decided what I am going to do regarding most of the heavily damaged ships in the vicinity of Formosa. Leaving them at a recently captured base leaves them as sitting ducks once the Invasion Fleet heads back to Guam and Pearl. Putting them with the Invasion Fleet would slow the Invasion Fleet's return to a slow crawl. Sending them home on their own leaves them rather vulnerable to being sunk on the high seas. After all the troops, aircraft, and supply have unloaded at Amoy, Pescadores, and Takao, I will make a decision.

However, I am ordering the heavily damaged British Battleship to Tokyo Bay. It is scheduled to withdraw from the theater within sixty days. There is no way it can be repaired and make an acceptable port of departure prior to the withdrawal date. There is also no way I am going to accept loss of Political Points every damn day for months.

Best Regards,

-Terry

At this time, I don't know the shipyard repair capacity at Pescadores.

Upon receipt of the next turn from El Lobo I will check the shipyard repair capacity and let The War College know its size.

I probably should have taken some photos of the happy crew on the back deck.

If it didn't happen, I sure have some pleasant dreams.

I don't believe that El Lobo knew where the Allies were landing until they landed. Even when the Invasion Fleet turned west close to the Bonin Islands, El Lobo might have thought the Invasion Fleet was heading to Okinawa or Hong Kong or the Philippines.

Captain Haggard has a better read on the topic of mines. Perhaps he is in a better position to provide better answers to your questions.

Can you scuttle the R class BB? Since u plan to send it on a suicide mission i think the British sailors would appreciate being put ashore rather than to die at sea for political points.

I suggest docking the damaged BBs anywhere. They will attract flies keeping them off other targets.

AB—

Digging down for the minute details of mine-clearing ops gets me closer to the gin and it's only three-thirty.

Suffice to say,

1) Hundreds of intrinsic mines littered Pescadores and Takao. I don't believe any had been added by enemy minelayers, but then again, El Lobo did not have much time to distinguish which of approximately two-dozen nearby targets we planned on invading. I don't think Amoy had any mines;

2) The minesweepers took heavy losses, mainly from coastal guns. Only one or two hit mines whilst collecting. It's a pretty banged-up force, and it will take all the reinforcements over the coming three months to get it back to strength, primarily because it never fully recovered after the Marianas. Some of these vessels that are damaged are going to stay behind in captured ports, lacking any options; their fate will depend on CAP and AA until they can repair;

3) I think/hope all the mines are cleared as of now, but in the Marianas El sent minelaying SS in after we captured bases, so additional MS will stay behind to sweep these brazen incursions.

Good to hear from you!

Hag

Bif and pontiouspilot-

I have ordered the Battleship California to Takao. It is in serious trouble with floatation damage at 92. Hopefully it can last long enough to draw some of the enemy aircraft to itself.

I don't see how the Battleship Ramillies can make it to a port, repair enough to move to a port with a shipyard repair, repair itself fully at a shipyard repair port, and move to a port where it can be withdrawn; all within 88 days. Accordingly, I have ordered the Ramillies full speed ahead to Tokyo Bay on a direct, absolute route.

A screenshot of the Ramillies is below.

Best Regards,

-Terry

You have enough supply to spend some on repairing industry you need, and also to draw PT Boats at the ports if you wish.

BBfanboy-

Captain Haggard and I spoke on the phone earlier tonight and he advised that he will be creating PT Boats in the near future.

How does one repair industry? Do I need do more than just build the ports, airbases, and forts?

Best Regards,

-Terry

If the industry repair is turned "on" and the base has over 10,000 supply, one point of the damage will be repaired at the end of the turn but it will use 1000 supply. At this stage it is probably only worth your while to repair the Shipyard. The payback time for repairing one point of light industry would be nearly three years from the time you repair the point of damage.

I just caught up after a one-month hiatus. It sounds like you gentlemen know how to party. Do you ever meet up in El's neck of the woods? I hear the festivities there can be interesting, especially along the Eastern Seaboard.

Congrats on the bold invasion. In 1943 Empire doesn't print brigades for garrison duty like it does in 1944. One question: What's the potential size of the shipyard in the Pescadores (i.e. once it's repaired)?

Cheers,
CC
