I think I had Trout Bum once but the cream the doctor gave me cleared it up nicely! You can get it from sitting on your ass playing computer games too much I'm told.

RE your bombardment. My suggestion is that you scout the home waters and shoot for one or more home city. Scout out of Alaska using smaller vessels. I would wager that your opponent is too busy elsewhere to have even bothered with routine recon at home. I'm not sure I would use any carriers, except to cover any pursuit. Assuming you have a few BBs this is good practice for them. Make sure you take plenty of replenishment since they will have to run like hell. I did read 1 AAR where the raid was done with carriers. It was enormously effective (maybe it was Loko or Mind Messer). I have done it in 2 games with BBs and in both they got in clean and got away without anybody shooting at them. To do this or your other raid you MUST know with almost certainty where KB is. If your opponent is dinking around having his way with you in Ind Oc. or some like spot this can be a considerable psych waker upper.

Pontious Pilot-

Welcome to The War College. Thanks for stopping by.

I have enjoyed fly fishing for some 50 years now. John Geirach has written several humorous books about his adventures fly fishing. One of the books he wrote was entitled Trout Bum, becuase that is basically what he is, a bum that loves to fish. But, perhaps you should send me the name of that creme as there are times after hours of moving xAKs around that even getting up out of the computer chair is a real chore.

mind-messing mentioned bombarding the home island too. I just don't think I want to be that far from safety nor risk the KB catching me. I will heed your advice, send a couple low level ships to snoop around the Marianas Islands.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Yup, Loka mounted a big carrier raid on the Home Islands in early '42 in our game.

Was it enormously effective? Actual losses were not that critical: the coastal trade around Hokkaido and Sahkhilin took a real beating, and the firebombing of Sapporo hurt some, but the biggest damage was to the resource centres, and I was flush with resources after capturing most of China.

The important things were:

1. It was a net VP gain to the Allies. They lost few aircraft and no ships, if I remember correctly.
2. It forced me to divert assets to Hokkaido and the Kuriles when I had planned to use them elsewhere. In '42 when the capacity for Japanese expansion still exists, this is huge.
3. The Home Islands are the best bet for the Allies to gain a free hand at attacking the Home Islands in '42: in nearly all circumstances, the vital air and naval assets that could seriously hurt the Allied raiders will be operating in the Pacific or DEI.

Your perspective on that raid is interesting. Did it make you stay home at night? ie. bring you home from tenuous adventures afar. I firmly believe in my one game that it kept KB much closer to home for a few critical months of '42.

Not really. The raid occurred in April '42, by which point I had expanded to my limit and was transitioning over to the defense. The Kuriles got an initial burst of reinforcements in the immediate aftermath, but not to the extent that it affected other theaters dramatically.

It was excellent timing, as Loka raided mere days before I was due the first reinforcement units that arrive on Hokkaido.

MONTH END REPORT

January 31, 1942

By the Numbers

Allied Score: 7495
Japanese Score: 7340

Allied Bases Controlled: 523
Japanese Bases Controlled: 314

Allied Base Points: 7009
Japanese Base Points: 3434

Allied Aircraft Points Lost: 459
Japanese Aircraft Points Lost: 346

Allied Army Points Lost: 2919
Japanese Army Points Lost: 112

Allied Ships Sunk: 112
Japanese Ships Sunk: 15

Points for Sunk Allied Ships: 528
Points for Sunk Japanese Ships: 96

Not By the Numbers

Instead of reliving the Japanese onslaught of terror and destruction, I will simply report what I am at least somewhat pleased about:

1.) The Prince of Wales and Repulse are docked in Bombay with only skeleton crews as the majority of the boys are getting hammered at one port dive or another.

2.) To date, the Evil Empire has not invaded Rabaul, the Solomons, the New Hebrides, New Caledonia, Fiji, Pago Pago, Ceylon, Burma, India, Australia, New Zealand, the Aleutians, Wake, Midway nor any of the line Islands on down to Tahiti.

3.) In China, considering the intense bombing from day one, substantial Japanese ground troop commitment, and heavy fighting, the Chinese are still fighting in Lanchow and Sian with Chinese interdicting Japanese supply routes on every road to these two battlegrounds. The Chinese are making it slow-going for the Japanese on their quest to conquer Chungking!

4.) Sinking Japanese ships: 1 CL, 1 DD, 3 DMS, 1 AV, 1 SSX, 6 SS, and 2 xAKL.

5.) Batavia being stubborn and giving the Japanese repeated bloody noses.

6.) Getting stronger and stronger every day in India, Australia, Tahiti, and Alaska.

I'm not sure if the Allies are doing good or bad at this stage of the game, but I sure am having fun.

*hollering out to all Allied Forces and to The War College* Remember the Boisie!

Best Regards,

-Terry

Well, El Lobo couldn't help me with screen shots. I have Windows Vista Business software and need like Windows 7 or 8 or more, I guess. I can't switch to a different Windows right now as my business requires the Vista Business for some of my other software programs to work with 3rd party systems. I will keep hammering away at this to try to figure out how I can do screen shots with what I have.

You should be able to use the "Prt Scr" button to copy the screen to your clipboard, then just open Windows Paint and paste it in there. When you have finished working on it in Paint, just "Save as" a JPEG file.
Next go to the forum and open a post window. at the bottom where it says "Embed Picture in Post", check the box ... then click on the text "Click here to upload". Click on the "Browse" option and navigate to where you stored the JPEG on your computer. When you find the file click "Open" and then "OK" on the next screenie. It should say "File uploaded successfully". When you make the post the JPEG image should be at the bottom.

BBfanboy-

When I save a screenshot from Paint, it goes really small. But, I'll do a test post and see if it comes out full size on my AAR.

Thank you for your help.

Stand by as I want to bombard the Marianas Islands in the next day or two.

Best Regards,

-Terry

BBFanboy-

I took a screenshot of China. Pasted it to Paint. Saved it as a jpg (it was tiny). Tried to upload it for an AAR post and it said the file was too big. I can't change the size of the jpg. and if I did, I wouldn't be able to see it. *chuckling*

Back to the drawing board.

Best Regards,

Try contacting witpqs by PM about "Greenshot" (a screen capture program that does not shrink the image} and "Paint.NET", a picture editor that lets you add overlays of arrows, comments, etc. I am pretty sure they will run on Vista. I got them and looked at them but I am not writing an AAR so I have not used them.

BBfanboy-

I have downloaded Greenshot. I will do a test AAR "Screenshot" of China in a few minutes.

I think El Lobo tried to download Paint.Net, but couldn't due to Business Vista Windows. But, I will try to download it again and make sure whether it won't download.

As Always, thank you for your help.

Strange, I have always relied on Paint for screen shots and only had problems long ago on an AAR I did for Battles from the Bulge until the administrators increased the limit for me.

I'm pretty sure that increase has been implemented across the board on all forums and I have not had a problem since.
