I've decided to test usefulness of infantry in actual combat. In the included scenario are 10 infantry platoons (4x 7,62mm MG each) matched against same number of opponents, with orders to attack each other, so after starting the infantry marches against each other and opens fire.

Results are quite bad. During each scenario there are up to 1600 bursts fired at the distance of 368m or less. Only about 5% of them hits. And even if they hit, they deal only 0,2 damage. Most of test runs ended with both sides running out of ammo, most platoons unscathed and no more than one machine gun (25% unit damage) destroyed.

This affect most of infantry units in the game, since they use same weapons. The only way for infantry to defeat other infantry units is with mortars or antitank weapons (yes, AT weapons can be used against infantry).
