I would be interested in hearing how strong the AI is in this game. I am on the verge of purchasing, but would like to hear from all who have played a lot how good of an opponent one will encounter with the AI.

The AI is intelligently scripted, but it is hard to say at this point how good it is when left to itself.

AI is the best of the Panzer General/Panzer Corps genre of games, IMO. Never quite on par with a person, but what game is?

I find the A.I. ruthlessly gangs up to eliminate a unit, where I think they put a block on that in Panzer Corps. In this game, it's obvious.

I'd rate the A.I. as follows:

Land Units: Good, especially on attack.

Air Units: Fair. Sometimes they leave their bombers open an unescorted even when a friendly fighter is in the area, and they tend to hang around sometimes when really low, and even relaunch in that state.

Naval: Fair. Not seeing too much activity other than steaming around back and forth. Will reassess later in the campaign.

If you want a game with a good ai that got awards for being a good ai look for a game called "Lux Deluxe". It won all kinds of awards for its ai. It's more of a risklike game though not a WWII game.

Best WWII AI I ever played was Command Ops series. Then Norbsoft's civilwar series. Many say the ai in Ageod games are good but I just can't get used to that design of a game. You might like it though.

A good game with good AI here is called "HELL" and I can only hope the ai in Battle Academy 2 has as good of an AI. Don't have Battle Academy 2 yet but I want it.

The AI of BA2 is adequate to decent IMHO. The AI of Commander Great War is remarkably good at the tactical level (combat), especially for the scale game it is trying to cope with. The AI of the recent expansion for Age of Wonders III (fantasy civ like wargame) is depressingly good and shows what is possible. Sometimes I let it take over my fights so I can learn to play better :(

It was created but the same AI programmer who did the OoBP AI (Myrddraal)

Can you repeat that? I didn't understand that statement at all? What's OoBP first!

Yes, I agree the tactical ai of AOW III is good but the campaign skirmish mode ai isn't. It leaves its towns unguarded or only 1 unit in them and if you sack enough of them it will just surrender even though it might have a powerful stack or more to fight you with. They are discussing that on the official forum now about the ai surrendering too easily.

OoBP is this game, Order of Battle: Pacific. He says the Commander: Great War AI was designed by the same programmer who did the Order of Battle: Pacfici AI. Hoopla!
