Yes, if what you are seeing is the "grinding blue circle" have patience. It will eventually get the game back but it can take quite a while. Just wait, don't click again. Don't do it again but I start thinking of what I want to look at and click even though I should know by now that it will create the long delay.

you can't move or view the map while the AI makes it turns, a known error, any mouse clicks or keyboard movement while it plays out it turn can cause a o/s error, 1.04 patch will be out soon with 1.05 beta just after

Yogi the Great beat me to it

clicking on any part of the screen while the AI or other side makes it turn can cause problems on some machines, with windows 8.1 and windows 10 beta it has been noticed on some hardware, to make sure run the game in windows xp sp3 compatibility mode with a admin account and settings, and then see if it fixes the problem with accidents or any sort of error messages, but worth a try as you have nothing to loose as it takes all of 2 sec to use the settings, only down side is when you exit the game you get a few seconds more delay in closing the program which is normal for this setting being used on a exe...

Last weekend, after fiddling with the Control Box buttons and menus, the game crashed on me. No AI processing then taking place. That was with 1.03b. Maybe later patches have fixed it by now.

tbh it's not actually a crash as such by the correct meaning of the word either, it's a hang and is caused by windows and not the game in question, and i'll try and explain it a bit more in detail.

your windows operating system like to have each program and app run together but in a different memory space, which is all well and good for most in not all programs, while some work well together, some don't, this is one that does work well, but if the AI spends too long thinking and doing anything, windows process manager thinks it's no longer responding and gives a error, this is what you see, if you use event manager in windows in says what app and time it happened and a error code.

now a bit more depth to explain some more,

windows xp, has a basic memory manager so it happens less with it,
windows 7, has a more advanced one so can happen more often,
windows 8.1 and win 10 beta have the latest version of the more advanced memory manager so happens or can happen more often than any other version.

now the easy bit, on 8.1 and win 10 beta, use the compatibility setting of win xp sp3 to get less errors and run as admin, gives a slightly slow performance than normal but a % less hangs, for me it's about 98% plus better running this way, but does then take slightly longer to exit the game, and a % slower on some hardware on larger battles but well worth it.

a system hang isn't a crash or program termination, it means it's failed to respond in a given time, nothing more or less.

hope that helps some

if your old enough to remember the old egg timer in older versions and still used in most modern ones as well, it means once it is shown, you have to wait and don't do anything until the egg timer have finished as something (which with this game is the AI thinking and moving is doing it's turn)

or as MS puts it better than me i'll quote them,

quote:

In many cases programs may appear to be hung, but are making slow progress, and waiting a few minutes will allow the task to complete

while it never takes a few mins tbh, a few more seconds on a normal pc would suffice

Are you using Windows 8? It is a known issue that sometimes Windows thinks that the application is "not responding" during combat or the AI moves. It seems to happen more on Windows 8. I had thought we had solved all these problems, but apparently some people are still seeing them. You should be able to work through this error by clicking OK (or whatever it's called) and letting Windows see that the application eventually responds. For what it's worth, I have the application sending "I'm listening" messages to Windows frequently during combat and AI moves, and I'm not sure why these sometimes are insufficient.
