Avoid Lord Howe Island - I'm not sure, but the 'country code' may be for Australia and since its below Brisbane, you 'may' trigger emergency reinforcements.

Central/Southern China
I have decided to shift the bulk of the 13th Army to the Center.

At Changsha, I actually might have enough juice to take the city. Bombardment revealed that I have 2500 AV to his 1500 AV, not including forts. Tempting. However, I'm going to see if I can take the city without a fight by moving the 11th Army (minus 1 division on Changsha) south and attempt a river crossing behind Changsha. I'm guessing he will be forced to pull out of the city.

At Nanning, I'm resting one more day and then have confidence I'll take the city.

SoPac
Norfolk fell to the Naval Guards. KB is going back to Truk and LBA can take over for Suva. Lesson learned. Have an exact goal for the KB at all times. It's too expensive in terms of fuel to simply run it around. It helped in SoPac, but wasn't really needed.

Force him to stay and lose all those troops by maneuvering around it and taking control of hexsides (it helps when you post screen shots to hit 'F6' key to remove hexsides and then 'W' to show hexside control). The key IMO will be capture of the hex due NW of Changsha on trail to Changteh and then having a small LCU cross over into Changsha to have hexside control shift to you and prevent a retreat to safety.

Right now, hit the AF at Changsha with your bombers to prevent two things - fort building and destroying supplies to below 2x level so his troops cannot take in replacement infantry.

For me, I would prep my China Command HQ for Changsha. At Wenchow, I would work LCUs in and out (if you have a division, divide into 1/3 and use one to go into jungle and then into base to gain control of a hexside) of base to gain control of ALL hexsides so he cannot retreat out of the hex.

Not really much to report except one of the weirdest set of sub battles I've seen.

First, around Geralton. My sub commander is getting a medal for this. Since they don't have sonar yet, how did this happen? Did they see each other, come to surface to hurl insults at each other and then my commander pulled a fast one and fired?

Lord Howe Island doesn't seem to trigger reinforcements for the allied player. At least, I haven't heard Mundy cheering....

I guess its a good thing to get multiple divisions depleted massively. After a month of watching them and wondering why some of them don't seem to be replenishing at all, check out a leader. Hmmmmm, a Admin of 36?

A staff person walks into the room. The commander has a map out with lots of military figures on it. The commander is bent over, staring intently at the figures and moving them around.

"Sir, please sign form 182-A, authorization for the requisition of troops form, so we can get it sent off fast"

"Huh? Sure put it over there." There's a stack of 100 papers in a corner of the desk. None of them have been signed. The commander goes back to looking at his figures.

"Sir, if we don't get this form signed, we can't sign form 182-B, requisition of troops form"

"Umm, don't worry, I'll get to it (continuing to bend down at the level of his figures, looking through them). Can you get me some more cake."

Yamamoto paces frantically behind his desk. Suddenly his door bursts open.

"Urgent Message from Dutch Harbor". Before the message can be delivered and without looking at the messenger, Yamamoto's replies, "Tell them to attack".

A moment later, the door bursts open again.

"Urgent message from Suva."

"Tell them to attack."

Again, another messenger, "Urgent Message from Wenchow"

"Tell them to attack."

"Your wife is in the hospital"

"Tell her to attack"

"Your mechanic is on the phone"

"Hey, how's it going" as he sits at his desk, puts his feet up, relaxes into the chair and smiles.

(What movie did I steal this from)

Now some questions about China.

They get 500 replacement squads a month. These squads come in anywhere or originate in Changsha/Chungking? I read somewhere about Japan needs to kill 350 squads a month. Why 150 less than 500? Not clear on why 350 is a magic number or what that person incorrect?

I'm going to assume that you need supply to pull these squads in. How fast do they get them?

Looking back over this month, I would bet at least 1000-1500 squads destroyed (minimum) and 2-3 times that number in disruptions.

March 29th, 1942

In a tent, just outside of Changsha, the entire general staff of the 11th Army is sitting around table with a map of Asia and a number of cardboard pieces on the map, some stacked to incredibly high levels.

"Stop bumping the table", says the general of the 39th Division, "that's the 3rd time I have to build this stack again".

The general of the 9th Army says, "How much are supply costs for attacking?" When no one answers, he sighs, "where are the rules again? Any pizza left?"

"My CW subs are searching for you around Truk," the general of the 40th Division pipes in, as most are having conversations at the same time. He's wearing a US flag pin on his suit.

Suddenly, messengers burst in the room. "The attack has begun on Changsha."

The generals look at the messengers a bit slowly. "In a minute, we're almost done with the turn. I've still got to roll."

The messengers leave the tent dumbfounded. "What?"

All of the chief staff members are huddled together outside the tent like bowling pins ready to be knocked down. One responds, "They all have good attacks, but all of them have less than 50 admin ratings and questionable leadership. That's why we are holding all these papers they haven't signed yet."

"No sh&t," one of the messenger mumbles as he starts running back to his radio.

Northern China

Bing, Bam, Boom

Chinese are in retreat in the north. If Bill continues his pattern, it's not a full retreat. He'll pull back and continue a defense in depth. I'm not sure what I would do in his situation. Perhaps a max garrison of cities with fort versus good defensive terrain but no forts. All I can say is that my armor provides me the advantage for at least combat in terrain without forts.

Perhaps someone can shed light on naval ship movement rates.

I have 30 knot battlecruisers that have an 8/4 movement. I have a 31 knot carrier that has a 7/3 movement. Why?

When you say 8/4 and 7/3 are you looking at the ship or the TF? The TF will be limited by the slowest ship, including if any ops points are already burned by refueling/rearming.

The 8/4 (just for example) means basically "in the first naval movement phase next turn, full speed=8 hexes and cuise speed=4 hexes, provided that nothing besides movement uses up too many ops points, in which case fewer hexes might be moved".

They are TFs, but single ships each. So it looked just strange that a slower knot BC would be at 8/4 vs. the 31 knot carrier at 7/3. Op points could be at play.

There is a column for ops points for each ship on the TF display. 0 = none used, 1000 = all used (for the first naval phase of the next turn).

Changsha - leave two or three divisions there. Send the rest somewhere to take ground and win the war of maneuver.

Well, I started that exact move and then decided to go back into Chansha with the 11th and 6 divisions. The 25th Army with 3 divisions and 4 tank regiments is racing up towards Henyang. They'll be there within a week. Once I'm there, he'll be forced to start withdrawing and I can take advantage of that. I've been doing daily airfield attacks on all 3 cities Henyang Changsha, etc...

Once Changsha is done, I have a strategic decisions To move the 25th out of China or to keep it there and attempt to go the long route into Burma. Not sure if I'll have time for Burma via the Eastern China approach.

Burma

He's started sweeps with Hurricanes and P-38E. I lost around 20 Oscars to his 1 Hurricane.

Are Oscars worth ANYTHING? Not sure what to do with them. I've withdrawn all sentai's from Burma to rebuild while I get my supply situation fixed there and will go back in force, but I'm struggling with the Oscar.

I do have a LOT of AA there, so hopefully that will minimize some of the damage I'm going to take.
