ORIGINAL: J P Falcon I have avoided WIN 10 as I see no need for now to jump into the cult of the new. But don't you love the challenge of rearranging everything to work with a new O/S? Actually, I'm getting a bit old for that myself... however... I bit the bullet and launched into Win 10. My biggest reason was the persistent problems I kept having with Windows Update on my Win 7 installation. Felt like a fresh start was in order... However, my biggest peeve so far is something I haven't seen reported in reviews. The new Start menu to display "All Apps"... doesn't. I've already commented that my installation of MS Office '97 wasn't displayed. The only one of my John Tiller HPS games to display was "Midway"... NONE of the others (and I have many) are accessible via the Start menu. AGEOD games are scattered about under their indivdiual titles (but do display), none of my Steam games are displayed and actually neither is the basic Steam App! Microsoft Games displays only a "Safe Start" icon that looks like it might be for FS 2004 and nothing else. No links to launch Flight Simulator X or 2004. I could go on and on... it's a weird mix showing links to PDF files and game manuals ad nauseum without ever displaying a game start icon. Paradox Interactive shows Chrome web links to Europa Universalis III on the web, a link to Uninstall Cross of Iron, a link to the Paradox web site, and a link to Gamer's Gate. Not a single game link. Totally useless. I almost get this feeling that someone created a half assed system just so they could tell everyone "the Start Menu is back" when they really want you to create live tiles for each application like in Windows 8. Now, the good news is that I've always created shortcuts in a desktop "Games Folder" and that came through the upgrade intact so I can get to my games that way. If I hadn't had that set up... wow what a mess I'd have had. I suspect I will just bypass the whole Start Menu / tile system and pretend I'm running Windows 3.1 and set up my own desktop folders for all my apps. I've always liked that better anyway! For me Win 3.1 was the most stable OS of them all. I ran my computer for months without needing to reboot. Who can say that about the later O/S versions, eh? So Windows 10 is working for me and the Windows Update problems have gone away, and all my apps seem to work (once I find a way to start them). No serious crashes other than one desktop refresh problem after unpinning Chrome from the Taskbar menu. I have to run it from a desktop shortcut to get it to start up. The "pinned" taskbar icon doesn't work. Firefox continues to crash immediately upon startup (I only know because a Firefox "error message" pops up to tell me it has crashed). Edge, however, just pops up instantly... I smell an MS plot to discourage competing browsers. Opera won't run but I haven't downloaded a current update yet (not that this worked with Firefox, but it did with Chrome). I'm sure this will all sort out eventually, but this will be the LAST upgrade I ever do till I die LOL Edit: and I do LOVE the new Task Manager app... finally a really good network meter included so I can monitor my download speeds accurately. More information included everywhere.
