If Im germany does the soviet combat bonus+1 which i think the default helps the ai? By that i mean does it tilt the balance too much or it just help balances the ai vs human scenarios for realistic outcomes?

or should i put it on +1 defense since they are defending and if I play as soviet should i play with no bonus? im not sure about balancing to realistic outcomes if i gave myself bonus

The +1 helps the Soviets through February 1942. The original game was released with Attack +1. It became a game option as many players didn't like it. Along with the Reduced Blizzard Effect game option, players now have a few more options to suit their preference. A lot will depend on how experienced a player you are. I'm sure community members have opinions about what they prefer. I don't have a good feel for how Defense +1 changes things, but Attack +1 helps the Soviet player, while the Reduced Blizzard Effect helps the Germans. The AI should benefit in the same way. Although it was originally created with the default game options in mind, it does have enough "intelligence" to take advantage of different option settings (although mostly at the tactical, individual combat level, not so much ate the big picture level). I know I'm not answering your question directly, but hopefully other players will have some direct advice.

thanks you kinda did but one more question I know the bonus is set to offset real human minds vs the ai

So if I play as soviets should i remove the bonus +1 im kinda new but i dont mind going without bonus

But if a (soviet)player not keep the bonus will I be able to hold on the area that historically was lost or maybe furtheresince I dont have the bonus?

To suit plausible realistic outcomes or should i keep the +1 bonus as soviets? or going without it the scenario will go worse overall. I know different startegy will affect the overall setting but im talking about how the units will perform.

its really hard to advise. In part what I look for in an AI game is to either practice an idea, get a view about the wider flow of the game or just for fun and a challenge.

So I tend to give it as much help as is consistent with the above.

With the Soviets I'd say drop the +1, its a bit like putting training wheels on a bike, you gain from learning to balance from the start. A key to good Soviet play is working out when you can get away with attacking at less than 2-1 odds using the on-map values and the +1 obscures that a bit.

Equally in 1941 with the German AI you need to help it so you get pushed around (again helps with then understanding how the arriving reserves compensate for the destruction of your at start army).

Final good thing is vs the AI, if you find the settings you chose aren't working out (too easy/too hard) then you can swap them at any time, big gain over PBEM where you are locked into whatever settings you both agreed to.

Firstly, when you play the AI, you can change your settings (and the AI's settings) at any time. That's especially nice as a new player. Too easy? Turn it up, turn on +1. Too hard? Turn it off.

I have played hundreds of hours versus the AI (and now no one on Steam will be able to know!!! ) as the Axis (never as Soviet).

For great games, these are the settings that I use:
Axis
100 Morale
90 Fortification
90 Transport
90 Logistics
400 Admin (yes, four hundred. I'm lazy with my Admin Points when I play the AI - and I love this setting).

For Soviet, everything is 120 except Morale, which I set at 110.

Big caveat as Axis, I don't use HQ Buildup in 1941. The AI just cannot deal adequately with the abuse you can give it (at least at those settings, YMMV). I also don't do "factory raiding" (defined as driving to a town with important industry and destroying/isolating it). The AI doesn't garrison factory towns as wisely as it should.

Regarding the +1, I leave it ON for the Soviet AI until March 42, and then I turn it off (so it gets the full bonus through winter).

Game after game, I've loved these settings.

One more thing. The AI is better playing the Soviets, both because it is better at defense and because the Soviets more often have quantity not quality. These play to the AI's strength. So it's expected that when playing the defender in a scenario, the attacking AI needs more help than you'd usually give it. In a scenario or campaign that swings from one side being the attacker to the other side being the attacker, you can always change the AI settings mid-game. The German AI could use some extra help in the first 3 months of the war to fully pressure an experienced Soviet player. Just something to keep in mind.
